On December 8th, a Zoom call was attended by 50 people. Nine girls from our Shatila 1 school, who were initially illiterate in their mother tongue when they first joined Alsama, have made incredible progress. They couldn’t even do basic math. However, they confidently presented their speeches in English in front of this large audience, leaving them in total amazement. Thanks to our two interns, Laura and Evie, who have been working with us since September in HQ on development and strategy, as well as on this incredible project with the nine girls. Each girl presented something they are passionate about, speaking for about 4 to 5 minutes, sharing their ideas with the world. Driven by their experiences as refugee children, they have shaped their thoughts into compelling spoken narratives.
