What you are describing about the deflect at the ending is exactly what happens at real sports fencing and I love determining opponents attacks and punishing them directly, rather than moving out of the way. They really seem to have put a lot of thought into making this resemble the real excitement of sword combat. This will be good.

If you're wondering what 'Sekiro' means, it's just a name. But being FromSoft, it's also not just a name. Obvs. Seki is 隻 , a fairly arcane character once used as a counter for feathered things like arrows and birds, but is now occasionally used to signal 'only one of a pair' - 隻腕 (sekiwan) means 'one-armed' for example - or a 'lone' quality - 隻影 (sekiei) is 'a single shadow,' 隻騎 (sekiki) means 'a lone rider.' Ro is not (my mistake) the 浪 of 浪人 (Ronin), but 狼 (oukami) meaning wolf.The wolf 狼 is used metaphorically in compound nouns like 狼狽 (roubai) 'panic' and 狼藉 (rouzeki) 'riot.' So Sekiro means 'lone wolf,' which on the face of it is slightly boring. I like to think some of the sense, as well as the sound of 浪 is embedded in it though...

Part of what made Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne so memorable to me was that they both have these twists which drastically re-contextualize how you understand the world you play in and your place in it. Like meeting Darkstalker Kaathe, getting the cosmic horror shit dropped on you midway through Bloodborne, etc. I'm really hype to see if this game has a similar kind of twist or surprise which flips the premise and setting we're seeing here on its head.

I've had such a good and frustrating time with this game, i had gotten past chained ogre after 3-4 hours, then my game crashed and got corrupted, so I had to start over, then got back in less than an hour, I've had just amazing bos kills, like when i fought the ogre, he was one hit away, he grabbed and threw me over the cliff, I spammed grapple and actually grappled ONTO the ogre nand killed him, I was utterly thrilled with how I did it. I've always been trying to find stealthy ways for everything I can, especially juzou, I didn't know there was a guy there to help me until my 5th or 6th try and that's what got me through the boss after stealthing his little bandit guys as the helper distracted them all. loving the game and your videos, keep it up!

The game flows like wine, so smooth. It´s difficult t take a step back from previous FS games, but when you start to get inmerse in the mechanics it become even more fun. Special menction to the characterization and narrative, a middle point between their own obscure narrative, but with more clearer objetives and secrets.(Well, i havent finish it yet, but you get my point.)

@@yari-np7ox In question of the "action" behind it yes. But afaik Seppuku is the proper japanese name for the ritual suicide of a samurai. Hara-kiri is a disrispectful discription for it simply means "slashing open the belly" (though i cant translate it myself).

The mechanic of Dragonrot spreading when you die reminds of an indie game I played called Valley. Every time you die you drain the life force from the surrounding plant and animal life in order to resurrect yourself. If you drain too much through dying (or manually, as some abilities and puzzles require use of the same life force) the Valley itself dies, completely drained of life and you get a game over as there is no more life force left to fuel your resurrection (though mechanics-wise it only means you have to restart the level from the beginning).

It is really interesting to see how Myazaki's approach to combat has developed over time. In DS1 you got passive defense in the image of poise In BB, you got to be evasive defense. In DS3 it was about reactive defense. In Sekiro it looks like it is all about active defense.

I am super excited for the new elements in this game. That being said I've always really hated the systems that punish you for dying too many times. I'm okay with very hard combat but one of my main issues with bloodborne was how you were punished for dying too much not only with the insight system but also bc you had to farm more bloodviles. It's not a bid deal for many but it bugs me. I hope this ends up not being an annoying feature. Over all still super excited for this game

You don't lose insight when dying. You lose blood echoes if you die twice without retrieving the bloodstain, but if you have a large amount of blood echoes you don't want to lose, just backtrack or use bold hunters mark and use them in the Hunters Dream before continuing further. Then again blood echoes come and go, eventually you'll have more than you know what to do with them. There's no no need to farm vials either, you should buy them instead. Good stock of healing items is worth more than a few levels, so get your priorities straight.

This game is good I got it yesterday. What you need to do in the very beginning of the game I noticed is build Sekiro skills up like crazy. You will spend some hours doing it but it is worth it. I would advise anyone who play this game is to build his skills up. One more thing: One has to time the dodging very good on this game. When you fight a boss figure out their attacks and patterns once you do that you would be good.

This is the only game I have pre-ordered since Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne, no regrets. I however do not find any of the soulsborne games hard nor any of the souls inspired games like Nioh or LotF, however this, this looks to be on another level and I cannot wait to get my hands on it.
