I have a photograph of this engine on a postcard from when I was little. Makes me happy to see it again after all this time!

Lovely to see. My neighbor growing up helped run a standard gauge preservation railway in the US; the IRM. I remember many a day wandering the engine shops and touring the sheds.

Wow what a great video on one of my favourite narrow gauge engines. It is a great way to see and explore an engine plus railway.

I was lucky enough to drive Jonathan when it lived at the West Lancs Light Railway in the mid 1990's, memory that I'll never forget. Personally it should have never left the railway as they kept it in fully operational condition, and was a joy to drive, for the last 20 years it has lived virtually unused on the owners private railway in Lytham. Hopefully Statfold can get this loco up and running and it be seen in public again. One thing I love about Jonathan is the livery, its fantastically different.

Are there any special precautions needed when pulling a steam loco that's not in steam like that? E.G. do the cylinders etc get their necessary lubrication?
@crazyfvck3 жыл бұрын
@Emma Jacobs As Lawrie had mentioned, it was loaded on a flat car :)
@the_retag3 жыл бұрын
@@crazyfvck but to further answer his question, if a loco were hauled a long way (probably longer than most narrow gauge) it would have its drive rods and valvegear removed/disconnected, otherwise you could only go slow and probably have to lubricate if its more than a short distance.
@blockstacker56143 жыл бұрын
@@the_retag If you're only moving it a short way you can just open the cylinder cocks and release the brakes. You should probably still make sure all of the running gear is oiled before doing that though.
@the_retag3 жыл бұрын
@@blockstacker5614 thanks for reminding me of the cylinder cocks

If it wasn't on a wagon, as mentioned in the comments, varies greatly on how far and fast you're moving it.
