Honestly I find this fair, Loralai did ran away and for sixteen years she kept her parents out of her life and Rory’s and the only time she actually considered visiting them was for money. All Emily asked for in return was just a weekly dinner with her daughter and granddaughter. I find this fair Rory gets to go to a nice school and once a week they get a free gourmet dinner with the grandparents. Is a win win for everyone if Loralai and Emily would swallow their pride.

I don't really leave comments on KZbin but isn't it stated even in that scene that Lorelai and Rory do visit Emily and Richard on holidays?

I agree. It’s a fair trade and Emily said it right: “financially involved, personally involved”

The additional cost to Loralai was to hear comments like Christopher was always smart. Then to Rory that must be where you get your brains. And other snippy comments.

It would be fair if going to dinner didn't imply being critique, insulted and minimize every damn time. I don't understand why being so pushy to spend time with a daughter you don't like nor even try to like (love and like is not the same, Emily loved Lorelai but didn't like her in the earlier seasons) . Also Richard's "speaking of which" and changing the subject the first time Emily talks about Lorelai's job in a somewhat positive way is hard to watch even today, he didn't acknowledge her daughter was recently promoted in the job she loves and went straight to "oh Chris is so smart". But who knows why in the world Lorelai doesn't want to be there right?

Emily was totally right when she said, "Imagne it where you would be if you accepted a little help".

It never would have been a little help with her, though. She would do what she always does and tries to control everyone and everything around her.

@victoriapitetta3831Ай бұрын
If she accepted all of Emily's help she would've end up a very rich housewife. Emily wanted to get her marry at 16 and have Christopher working for Richard (him, not Lorelai), might be good for some but not what Lorelai wanted.

Everyone always talk about Emily but Richard was a lot more abusive, classist and an ass he just covered that up better because it was less in your face...or because of the actor who played him.

Right the actor is charming so it helps, but he’s even worse than Emily; just better at hiding it.

I think people hating Emily and showering all their love on Lorelai haven't seen the entire show. They were both flawed in their own ways. Emily was pushy, but Lorelai was headstrong, too. That's the beauty of this show, no one is a hero or a villain, just like in real life.
@rustjones385Ай бұрын
It's a really interesting concept. You gotta respect Lorelei for actually taking the plunge and living her own life. Lots of rich people like Logan talk but don't make it happen. At the same time it comes across as selfish. Lorelei used every bit of strength for herself and Rory only. She could've found a way to encourage Christopher and to slowly change her parents or compromise. But Lorelei's the person that would rather suffer by herself than work with others. But at the end of the day it doesn't matter how talented you are as Emily said, you need teamwork to maximize results. So lorelei didn't choose the best path for Rory, but she saved her mental health because she couldn't allow her brain to grow and understand her parents.

What???
@Ariana-wv4pfАй бұрын
Have you seen her parents? Emily is narcissism itself and controlling and Richard is so far removed from reality he couldn't possibly help Lorelei with anything. And she did compromise. She went to her parents and let them back in her life so that Rory can go to Ivy League schools like Chillton and Yale. And Lorelei's parents spoiled Rory and made her incredibly entitled and bratty. Rory would have been better off going to community college and finding a regular job. She wasn't cut out to be a journalist. But she knew she would inherit all Richard's money eventually and her grandparents were always there with the check, so she stopped chasing her dream of becoming a journalist which involved sleepless nights, travelling in bad conditions and spending weeks on a subject, going out there investigating and talking to people of all walks of life. Rory wanted a comfy life and she enjoyed her grandparents lifestyle a little too much and empathising with poor people wasn't her thing (she saw how her grandma treated her maids and she seemed unbothered by it). So yeah. Lorelei had a wonderful idea in cutting her parents off completely. Wish she sticked to it.
@rustjones385Ай бұрын
@@Ariana-wv4pf Lorelei had the right idea but she was a hypocrite. She wanted Rory to be super successful and rich. That's why she always bragged about Rory going to Yale/Harvard and she used her Gilmore name when it suited her. That attitude rubbed off on Rory a little. But I will admit that Lorelei genuinely prefers the simple life. Rory loves being spoiled deep down. There's nothing wrong with that except that Lorelei makes her feel guilty about it 24/7. I think if Rory wasn't so concerned about Lorelei's opinion she would find a different career and marry Logan and be successful in her own way. We saw her potential at the DAR and interning for Mitchum. She makes a great manager and event planner because she's likeable but firm. That's a respectable career.

Just because someone dislikes a character doesn't mean they have internal misogyny. Maybe that person hasn't seen the whole show and seen Emily's good moments. That's a big thing to accuse a stranger of without proof.
