There’s a lot of great leg lock info out there, but there’s also a ton of material that’s just way too advanced for a new Jiu Jitsu student. And if you just started BJJ, you’re looking for quick and easy to understand information that can get you started on the path to the Heel Hook dark arts. This video should give you the head start you need.

This has got to be one of the best leg lock tutorials I’ve ever seen. The level of detail in showing the biomechanics of the ankles and legs is by far better than any of the leg lock videos I’ve seen.

Rickson said it best. Joints above the hips hurt and then break when attacked. Joints below the hips break and then hurt when attacked. If the grip on your ankle or knee is solid when training, tap.

Great breakdown. You’ve got a real gift for distilling concepts into 5 words or less actionable takeaways… frames never push… know when to bail… it’s like learning Jiu Jitsu from a wise Ricky Bobby. If you ain’t first, you’re last.

Excellent short video. Wish the internet was more advanced in the late 80's to mid 90s. Most people's leg locks were a grab and crank style, making it dangerous to roll with them.

Could you do a video on “how to not let your partner break their knee” I’ve avoided learning heel hooks and ankle locks because I’m worried if I catch a less experienced player they would turn wrong and while I’m gripped on their leg tightly causing them to break tear their knee. Earlier in my journey guessing at leg escapes I’ve have multiple opponents urgently tell me to “stop!” so I didn’t destroy me knee. It’d be really helpful to know more about when I’m in danger of letting them ruin their life while I’m trying to get into position.

@jswhite
@jswhite 2 жыл бұрын
"KNOW WHEN TO BAIL" = Cannot be stressed enough. I went to open mat today and probably caught 10-15 heel hooks. Probably 60% of those were from guys entering my legs without great control, I would counter, and then establish far superior control. While that was happening...they didn't bail and continued to fish for a leg attack on me. Every one of those could have been avoided by just recognizing that it's time to get out of Dodge.

Heel hooks are an extremely dangerous submission, you feel a bit of tension and then *pop*, your knee has been damaged and you may need surgery and be out a year. Be extremely careful when learning these destructive submissions. There are good reasons why the heel hook is only allowed to higher level belts in competition and never in the gi.

So are the breaking mechanics shown in the beginning the same for each of the 6 leg entanglements? Because it seemed like for some of them you might not actually be turning your side down onto the mat and then following with elbow going to hip and shoulder replacing elbow?
