Thanks for video. Have a wheeled container like yours mine is 15 years old but still holds up. Before serious garden was about get rid of. Sure glad I held on. It is so sturdy and I do not have be concern about the wheels going flat. I know it would be triple the price now. I have spring veggies from winter. Just pulling out kale. cabbage and some lettuce to make room. In 7b. Happy Gardening.

Thanks for watching! I used to have a traditional wheel barrel but it was so hard getting it on the side of the house (gangway). The wheel went flat and I was glad to get rid of it. The one I have now is perfect! Hoping I get 15 years out of it😊. I had dreams of early spring kale but I'll have to defer those spring dreams til next year ☺️. I still have some kale plants that will get planted and it does pretty well until maybe mid summer when it stalls a little. Happy gardening!! ~ B

Betta late than Neva Batavia! Thanks for sharing your process and how you prepare your beds for winter/spring. Soil prep is so vital! It was fun hanging out in the garden w/you Batavia.😎

@@BBettaGardenI had to use Sluggo for them the past 2 years. I caught footage of them eating my plants. They ate some seedlings down to a nub. All of those people that say they don't eat plants are just wrong. Lol.

Hi Ms. B, I live in Chicago, and I would like to start dipping my fingers into gardening. I purchased three 30-gallon containers from Walmart, I would like to start with things I love to eat which are lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers to start. The insects are the things I hate, I say all of this to ask what type of soil should I purchase for the containers, needless to say, I'm a scared cat.

Me too! I plant in containers raised beds and on a platform to get away from slugs

Heya Chicago neighbor! You're off to a great start by planning to grow things you love to eat. Most bagged *potting soil* or *potting mix* will work (I would stay clear of top soil or even bags labeled garden soil for containers). This year, for some of my containers, I'm using Shultz, in part because I like the texture but also because there is a rebate so I can get a few pennies back 😊. www.menards.com/main/outdoors/gardening/lawn-plant-care/compost-soils-amendments/schultz-reg-potting-soil-mix/50150529/p-1451392291851-c-1463608034794.htm?exp=false And if we you want to try to make your own soil to save a few more pennies, check this video out kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5C9m6SirJydqcksi=5D7whM1SX1gnmI6Y

Hey B! Looks like you are definitely on your way to having a beautiful abundant garden.😊 Do you collect any of your own seeds to plant next time?
@BBettaGarden7 ай бұрын
Hey Sis! I'm finally getting into a regular outdoor garden routine and it feels good! I collect seeds from peppers and maybe some tomatoes. The leafy greens take so long to produce so I tend to pull them. I do let some lettuce and cilantro got to seed each year so it will self-sow the next year.

Hello, Ms. Betta. I had planned to expand to in-ground planting. However, I scrapped that plan because I started to see rodents for the first time in my backyard. I live in the city as well, and I was wondering if you had any experience or knowledge on how I can protect my garden from the critters. I plan to now use raised beds, containers, and vertical planters.

Heya Ms. Anita! Sorry to hear about needing to scrap your plans. The critters I've had to deal with are more along the lines of stray cats, (I believe they keep the mice and rats away), squirrels, opossums and in recent years, raccoons. The squirrels being the biggest issue when it comes with bothering the food. The black netting I use has helped deter the critters that visit my garden from getting into the raised beds. It depends on how persistent the animal is, for example, will they naw through the netting?? But with that said, I still have things that grow in the open and generally have not had any issues. Sorry I couldn't be or more help. ~Batavia
