In the final part of our buying a house in Portugal series we'll show you the first time we viewed the house we ultimately ended up buying. In it's raw form - almost unedited - we'll show you exactly what we saw in mid-September, two years ago.
We'll also give you a sneak peek inside the roof space to show you something special and wrap things up with some final thoughts on the buying property in Portugal experience.

The size of this lot is perfect for two people. Once your renovations are finished, it will keep you busy to achieve a measure of self-sufficiency. Did you say that you only work about 2 days on the renovations? That could be another topic for the question session: how much time do you allot for Reno, garden, research, housework, etc. Do you take proper weekends, breaks, 8 Hour Day?

This is my favorite property. The land and the house is perfect. Downstairs could be The living room, W/C, kitchen & dining room and the upstairs could be bedrooms & bathrooms rooms 😊. An office area could be either upstairs or downstairs. The master suite, bathroom, closet & lounge area with a desk could be incorporated.

The two of you have accomplished an enormous amount of improvement on this place in the two years you've been there, especially since you have your other activities that take up much of your time. But a lot of the major work is now behind you, and hopefully there will be less heavy labor to do and time for more of the fun stuff. Having said that, I think you got some enjoyment from even the hard work, and certainly a lot of satisfaction. Already you can survey your property with a glass of wine in hand, say "We did that", and smile.

I think that the threshing circle would make a lovely craft room/workshop once you have moved into the house. Unless you build a circular greenhouse, but do you really want a greenhouse. I can see why you bought it, who wouldn't buy that house, so much protentional. It oozes character and with the work that you have done you have more than likely doubled its value. You have answered so many questions with just this video. You have to ask though is the effort worth it and before you answer, I say yes without any doubt. You were meant for this house and this house was meant for you. Thanks for posting

As soon as I saw the realtor fiddling with the lock at the gate, I could tell why you love the property. Having all those mature fruit trees is such a bonus. Being a Floridian, I can say there's nothing like fresh citrus! I think you made a very nice choice, though it would be nice if you had a tad more land you could designate for animals. Still, quite nice.

Just curious, but did most of the properties you saw have furniture throughout? I noticed how much furniture was left behind and wondered if this is how properties are put on the market. I am one of those people who enjoy using various things with good craftsmanship. That one wardrobe with the highly finished doors was amazing. The roof construction on this house is obviously done with craftsmanship and traditions along with higher quality build. It's both extremely functional and beautiful. 😃
@MAKEDOGROW
@MAKEDOGROW 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, almost all had furniture. Often it’s the case that someone passes on and the family don’t want to deal with all the stuff. I’ve saved a couple of dressers and 2 tables, and the wardrobe you mention I pulled apart to reuse and make something else (it was a little large in its current state)
@ninemoonplanet
@ninemoonplanet 2 жыл бұрын
That wardrobe was very large with a beautiful grain in the wood. How odd the families don't send those contents to auction or charity. Buying a property with all the contacts is definitely a good deal. I would be watching the local advertising for more items, it's far better quality than we see in mass production items.

It’s amazing how nice the homes conditions looks in the video. Wise to have an inspector look over the home. A small tractor with a few implements will save you tons of work on the land and more importantly time! I really love those arbor’s or concrete frames that are for grapes or some kind of vines. I would need to hire out most of the work if I were to take on a refurbishment of a home or farm. I’m not physically able to do what your doing at the pace your planning but my mind is racing. Still have my imagination hahaha. Do either or both of you speak Portuguese? That’s another issue for me .
