I feel your pain, Carolyn. The rule breakers are the reason we all end up suffering the loss of privileges. From fewer Walmarts where we can overnight on a trip, to BLM land (where we enjoy our time while in the US escaping a bit of the Canadian winter). Having had our trailer stolen last fall from where we had winter-stored it on private property, I'm actually surprised people aren't returning to their RVs and discovering them gone. Maybe the type that steal RVs are the same type that leave them out in places for longer than they are supposed to. Very frustrating. Thanks for the history on this area. Really interesting.

Black Elk, Ogala, Sioux. was a boy watching warrior's horses during the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Black Elk became a famous Lakota Holyman, Pipe Carrier/Healer (Chanupa Carrier) and lived on the Pine ridge Reservation (still the most poverty stricken place in the US) and he died in 1945. There are many books about Black Elk.

Additional information: The Department of War over saw the Native Americans. Secretary of War John C Calhoun established the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1824 dealing with Native Americans until 1849 when Congress transferred it to the newly founded Department of The Interior. Native Americans were not citizens until Congress pass a act (43 STAT. L 253) making Native Americans Citizens June 24, 1924 It states "All Indians born within the limits of the United States are citizens of the United States". I'm a Native American and this just is absurd to me. My ancestors lived here for thousands of years. We should be making them citizens. Ok, I'll get off my soap box now. Have fun Carolyn and as always Enjoy the Adventure.

Beautiful video Carolyn! I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota, having moved from Palm Springs a couple of years ago. It is an amazing, magical place, thank you for sharing some of that magic here. I am someone who also loves your As I See It Channel, and your take on real history, so I feel that you might be interested in knowing to whom I thought you were referring in the title. I hope you find this as next information as interesting and exciting as I did. I thought you were referring to the mystical White Buffalo Calf Woman, who is the one who set up the foundational rules of the Lakota to live by, and identified their sacred sites, which is a big part of why the Black Hills are so central to the lives of the Lakota Sioux. While your story of the Educator was a good one, though bittersweet, I believe that the White Buffalo Calf Woman would be my choice for the First Woman in the Black Hills. I think most people would be surprised that learn that so much of Lakota beliefs and practices were influenced by a female figure. I certainly was!

"Beautiful spot. I found a VHS tape a number of years ago at a public library titled, "How the West was lost". It was eye opening and heartbreaking. It's all about how horrible Native American's were treated, murdered and all the treaties that the US broke with them. Not sure if you can find it anywhere today. Love seeing Sadie get the zoomies. Stay safe and God bless.

The minute I read your video title, I knew I would love it, and I did. I enjoyed the storm. I completely agree with you about rule breakers. Also, I too get tired of people complaining about California rules and regulations. I used to visit Tucson, Arizona frequently to check on my elderly aunt, and when people would see that I had California license plates, I would then have to listen to them bitch about our gun laws, bitch about the traffic, politics, and numerous other issues. My response was if you don't like it, don't come to visit. Anyway, I truly enjoyed your video!

It’s a problem in Montana too. Last year and this year have seen such an influx of out of staters that are filling up our campgrounds that it is creating a problem for us locals. They too, refuse to move every 14 day. I have a friend that works for the forest service. He told me this. There is nothing they can do about it. Eventually it will get way out of hand and cause a big fight or loss of privileges. They are already trying to implement a tax on out of state campers.

I don't give a rats ass if your camera is a little shaky while you adjust to it. The content is what I come for and you never disappoint. Love the thunderstorm = treat trick. It's genius - and will be really handy this coming week when the fireworks get crazy! I admire your consistent training with Sadie. Any dog who adopts you is making a great choice and will have a great life. All those amazing places and adventures, all the love, all the clear rules so that she knows exactly what to do, what you expect and how to make you happy. I'm having a mug of ice water and sending a toast to you for all your hard work.

I recently found a trailer parked in a dispersed spot that had obviously been there for months. I wasn't even sure it was safe to camp near there. Someone in one of the virtual caravans suggested I call the DNR (Department of Natural Resources) for a wellness check. I did, and the next week I went by there and no trailer! I think the employees working for our national and state forests simply do not have the time and ability to check on all of the dispersed campers, and there don't seem to be as many forest rangers, etc as there used to be. Try it!

The Souix ran off all the other tribes and declared the land, then another tribe came in and ran off the Sioux and declared the land...some day another tribe will come and run that tribe off and declare the land and so on, such is history, no one really owns the earth, it's up for "grabs". This is only our short and fast "material" life, and then we are set free...

Zummies in an RV. Sadie is has certainly adjusted to her nomad life. Seems to me the rangers are as much to blame for letting locals leave their rigs on site permanently. Then some new policy or new ranger comes along and we who follow the rules end up loosing.

The parks systems (national and state) have been suffering a lot of funding cuts in the past few years, meaning that the existing staff is spread even thinner than it was. They may not have time to do a thorough job of policing the campgrounds for compliance, which is sad in a way - that is one of the final blows before complete closure of a campground.

The Black Hills really are beautiful. Look at those wildflowers! I loved the shot of Sadie running back and forth in the camper. I would think a dog would do that if she didn't get enough exercise but I'm sure Sadie gets plenty! (Talk about a lucky dog!) That part of the country has such beautiful skies! Wyoming and SD and Montana. I'm sure people there take big fluffy cumulus clouds for granted! But here in California we don't get beautiful skies like that. I have a folder on my computer full of pictures of just skies, which I put behind other scenes using Photoshop. And they all come from that part of the country.
