Bit of TfL take over trivia: You can tell which station is run by TfL on the GW lines just by looking at the electronic passenger displays. The ones run by TfL just say "Paddington", GWR stations (and Network Rail run Reading) say "London Paddington".

How wonderful to see my old home station! I used to catch the 08:25 limited stop train from that very platform in the early 1970s. I'd ride the train to Maidenhead to go to school. It was a commuter train that started at Henley on the beach branch line, then crossed onto the London bound "slow line". Limited stops after Maidenhead. I don't know what class the trains were, but they were multi-set through corridor DMUs. Thanks for reviving the memories 👍

Having seen these trains just parked on the side during several journeys from Reading to Paddington, it's nice to see them finally running. As a Reading local, I wonder if the upcoming contactless card payment will also be valid on the fast non-stop GWR trains from Reading to Paddington or only on TfL services. That would make life a whole lot easier. Love the video!

Important to realise - there will still be 2tph off-peak between Paddington and Didcot Parkway via Reading from 16th December going forward - serving Ealing Broadway, Hayes & Harlington, West Drayton, Slough, Maidenhead, Twyford and Reading (then all-stations to Didcot) operated by GWR and utilising the better quality Class 387 units. Off peak TFL services are 2tph Paddington-Reading, increasing to 4tph in the peaks when the GWR services run non-stop to Maidenhead or Reading and don’t serve the intermediate stations.

Obviously the ticket barrier where you normally do was the answer, people are so easily confused aren’t they...
@benjibatch

Geoff Marshall yeah I noticed those, they only need to be on 1, 8&9 otherwise if they’re separate from the ticket barrier then how will people get through the barrier? I was a girl amongst lots of boys and my job was to count the wheels. They got the numbers and names. I still love trains and I am trying to talk Auckland into getting a tube system. @DavidWood2
@DavidWood2 5 жыл бұрын
Platform curvature is the reason. On a curved platform, there might be too large a gap between the central door and the platform. At a guess, the issue is with Paddington's high level platforms, which curve at the country end. If so, I believe the problem will resolve there when the low level platform opens in the tunnel. If it affects other stations (other than Liverpool Street, which I don't know well), they will continue to be affected after the central section opens.

I would rather travel on GWR and have comfy seats facing the direction of travel along with no ridiculously loud beeping doors and toilets on board. It’s not far off two hours from Reading to Shenfield - a long time to hold it in!

Just hope TfL will be cheaper than current GWR (extortionate) fares in 2020. Omission of Oyster zones suggest excuse for continuation of high fares from Slough to Paddington!

Geoff did something about Oyster zones, the software didnt have enough Zone capabilty, contactless uses different software algorithim and can work with the relevant contactless TfL zones.

When they did a test on the core section of the Elizabeth Line, two trains were running only 36 seconds apart - I think the original specification was for a headway of around 2:30 mins. Are they increasing the specification to something like a 1:30 minute headway (40tph each direction) and is that why there are major delays? This is the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/labck2aior56ZtE (first train passes at 0:09 - second train passes at 0:45).

Does this mean that from the 15th December all the TfL services currently terminating at Hayes and Harlington will continue all the way to Reading, and all stopping the trains currently run by GWR that go to Reading and Didcot Parkway will be replaced with TfL trains as well? Basically does that mean every train heading west out of Ealing Broadway that isn't a Heathrow train will stop at Slough?

People’ll get used to it. On my local trains (class Sm5, Finland) there’s this really annoying BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP when the doors are opening, and at first people complained, newspapers wrote about it, and now, 10 years later, nobody even notices.

It's so strange seeing you walk about that station, because I've been there soooo many times visiting friends, I recognise all of it :D I've always found the GWR trains packed out going back to Paddington from Reading, so hopefully this will relieve a lot of that passenger load! How fast is the purple train from Reading to Padding? Like how long does it take? I know the GWR train is about 25 minutes if it goes direct
@katrinabryce

At the moment, the slow GWR trains are timetabled to take about an hour. I believe the new timetable will reduce that to 50 minutes.

@@azyfloof well obviously GWR its faster, it doesn't stop anywhere. The purple train has to stop in many stations, which is the whole point of this train. Not just to pick up people from reading but from other places like maidenhead, slough etc
