I saw a picture of the flat woods monster in a book in my school library when I was 7. The image haunted me for my entire life, I didn’t see the image again for decades until I drew it from memory and found out its name by googling it out age 33. Every time I’d look into a dark garden I’d always taunt myself by imagining its ghostly nun like outline.

My friend took a picture in flatwoods West Virginia of something that looked JUST like this. I never thought this was even possible but if you saw the picture you might second guess it too. She was riding in the woods with a friend and was taking random pictures, once she got home she saw she captured something staring at them from the distance. Very creepy picture!

I think I figured out what the "Flatwood Monster" was: Around the same time as the "Monster" event, early experiments were being conducted with various flying personal backpacks equipped with jet or rocket engines, and also with rocket or jet propelled hovering platforms (like flying Segways. ...It might have been a person flight testing such a device that people saw. This would explain the ability for the monster to seem to hover, the exaust from the engines would have explained the bad smell and haze, and likely the jet pack aeronaut would have worn a helmet and a bulky flightsuit. I don't recall what light or lights the witnesses to the monster saw, but it's possible if the jetpack or personal rocket platform is what they saw, that it might have had some kind of aircraft warning light on it, possibly on the wearer's helmet. ....Actual videos and photos of this device being tested back in the early postwar years can be found on KZbin. You can even see a similarity to someone equipped with the device to many of the drawings made by witnesses of the "monster" they saw. ....Perhaps it was a military or CIA experiment involving such a device, and the military didn't come forward to say what it was because either the device or a mission the pilot was being trained to perform with it was top secret. .....Search the net for "1950s Rocket Pack, Jetpack, JetPack" Another possibility is the "Helivector"
