Hooking a fish should be done in a manner that causes minimal damage to the animal. However, the process of hooking fish probably doesn't bother the big predators quite as much as you might think. They're swallowing spiky things all the time. Use the smallest hook you can and get it out as quick as you can and you should be good.

One thing that you could do is fly fish for smaller gar with rope flies. It may be hard to get a rising gar to eat but when you do, your in for the fight of your life.

That hognose snake is gorgeous! I keep a few of them and they are amazing snakes to keep! They are so cute when they get scared and do their extremely dramatic "play dead" thing lol. And they are imitating a cobra when they flatten their head, trying to say "hey! I'm a big mean snake, you better leave me alone!" But they're sweethearts. They are rear fanged venomous but most people won't be effected by it outside of a little discomfort and swelling!

I absolutely love hognose snakes! I own 3 corn snakes and a ball python (and 22 tarantulas, 37 scorpions, a bunch of terrestrial crabs, freshwater shrimp, tropical fish, a bearded dragon, a whip spider and 3 colonies of different cockroach species), but once me and my fiancée have our own home (we are currently living with my dad so we can save up to buy a house... or a small homestead, actually) I definitely want a hognose as well! :) And good catches man! Keep it up! Also, I saw that those sunglasses can be shipped internationally, so I might give those a try once I can spare some money :)

I was at Ft Hood back in 83-84?, was there for summer camp with my National Guard unit, anyways we were at one of the post motor pools to sign out some vehicles and track vehicles and a big hog nose snake probably around 21/2 to 3 ft long came flying out from under one of the track vehicles, a couple of us saw it and ran up to it, then he or she curled up and flattened its head out acting like something he was not, and when that didn’t work, it then rolled over on it’s back and played dead, it also put off a funky odor, like it was dead and rottening in the sun. After we turned around and walked off, it wasn’t long till he or she turned back over on it’s belly and crawled off. That’s a trip at the things they’ll do to get anything to leave them alone. Anyhow, good good catches again! Keep on keeping on!

Awesome fish! Been following for some years. The channel has come along way and so has your skills! Have you ever thought of maybe trying to do some testing on what the fish in the various spots you catch have in their systems? Toxins pesticides etc?..... It would be great to see what areas have the most pollution and how it may effect wildlife. Just curious if you ha e though about that? I have been hiking and fishing bayous for over 35yrs. I've seen the changes in what you can catch and the decline in various species. One observation I would make is I really believe the tilapia problem originated with Fiesta selling the small fry that would come in their live shipments that they would selll as pets back in the 80s.

Consider the fact that city drainage systems are not spring fed, & unfortunately criminal dumping in those systems after dark is a reality. The freedom to fish those waterways is a blessing for the sport fisherman. Some areas most probably are radioactive.

Just so you know hognose are venomous rear fanged snakes so while most of th time they don't bite and if they do typically don't inject venom. But on some occasions they do inject venom and can cause alot of swelling. Js

Love all fishing videos you done so far, just have to give my opinion on thickness of the hook tutorial you said, I believe thicker hooks makes less ripping…. For example: Just visualise yourself lifting a 20 lbs fish holding a 0.37 mm braid line on bare hands vs 10 mm braid cord line . What do you think will happen to your hands? More surface contact less cutting or ripping action, its like a blunt vs sharp knife…… Just my opinion otherwise…fantastic video 👍

Probably because he lives near these locations and can easily get footage. I wish he would fish the Bolivar jetties more. Just more saltwater but that gets expensive.
@wildlifefishingshow
@wildlifefishingshow 2 жыл бұрын
I'm cutting back on the amount of saltwater fishing I do for a few reasons (just cutting back, definitely not stopping). It's a long drive back and forth for me to reach the coast and saltwater trips generally cost more on a given day than a freshwater day in Houston. I have to factor in the risk to reward ratio when I'm filming now that I do this full time. Not getting a film on one of my designated filming days is bad enough, but when my expenditures are higher AND I don't catch anything, that hurts. Even if I do catch fish, generally speaking my saltwater videos do not perform as well as my freshwater videos (99 times out of 100). Having an anxious rescue dog also changed things quite a bit, lol. I need to take care of her at certain times in the morning and the evening, so with an hour and a half drive each way, it really limits how long I can fish on the beach. Overall, locations like Galveston and Bolivar aren't easy for me to get to and film right now.
@Scale575
@Scale575 2 жыл бұрын
@@wildlifefishingshow I figured you probably got more views from your freshwater videos.
