Those effects are so worth at least one watch. The genius on display is incredible. I love that it manages the near impossible trifecta of horror, humour and heart. All I do is feel sorry for Veronica and the loss of the love of Her life. This film always makes me cry. Seth Brundle was just as gorgeous as He was brilliant and to see Him so totally wasted by a momentary lapse of judgement. It's so tragic. 💔

Damn man you did good. You're right, it's not really a horror it's body horror/tragedy. Really thinking about what could happen if someone merged with a fly and not shying away from showing all the gory details. It helps that it's a really good film, exceptional acting but a hell of a hard watch. Thanks for the laughs and the work you put into entertaining us all, you brighten up our day.

This has always been one of my all-time horror faves. In addition to some of the very best practical effects in history, the movie has such unexpected moments of depth. "I'm a fly who dreamt he was a man, but now the dream is over." It's such a great line because it shows how the fly's consciousness is actually evolving and consuming Seth as his humanity recedes, and this feels like the moment where Seth realizes he's losing himself and is saying goodbye before the fly takes over. It's so tragic in such a brilliant way. It's always been one of my favorite movie quotes for that reason.

My all time favorite Horror movie because it was more of a romantic/tragic/horror movie. You actually felt sympathy for Brundlefly. And he managed to keep his sense of humor through the entire transformation. I always shed a tear when he grabs the gun and points it to his own head. Goldblum should at least should have gotten a nomination for an Oscar for this role. And you gotta love David Cronenberg for taking a different perspective on The Fly. And you got through it ok. Great reaction.

"Be afraid. Be very afraid." Fun Fact: Mel Brooks didn't want people to know he was a producer for the film, because he thought people wouldn't take it seriously if they knew he was involved. Real Reaction Fact: Geena Davis claims that the only time she felt "grossed out" by the amount of gore was in the scene where Seth's ear falls off and she holds him. She states that her reaction to holding her face up to Jeff Goldblum's was not acting and that she was indeed really grossed out. Doctor Cronenberg Fact: After watching some of his early films, director Martin Scorsese asked to meet David Cronenberg. Upon meeting him, Scorsese said he looked like a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon. This inspired Cronenberg to give himself a cameo as a doctor. It was Geena Davis's idea that he appear as the gynecologist. Pinocchio's Revenge Fact: Two puppeteers were located underneath the floor animating the inside-out baboon while a third pumped blood. All three of them had to wear raincoats because of the large amounts of blood being pumped. Frequently the rest of the crew would break for lunch and forget about the three underneath the floor.

How many breaks could they take shooting 10 seconds of footage? I know the fx art takes a while but that is done days ahead, and there is some setup for the shot and probably a few takes but its not like the puppeteers would be needed under the floor for more than an hour, especially with that simple jiggling.

I wouldn't call it "scary" in the traditional sense, but it's got some of the best body horror I've ever seen. The only competition it has is The Thing as far as body horror goes. It's definitely got some Lovecraftian vibes to it, with the whole "part-human monstrosity trying to breed with humans" theme, and "horror beyond comprehension" when it comes to the 3-person fly fusion idea.

The whole debacle was a result of Seth Brundle being off his rocker even before he transformed. If we imagine teleportation could be done, it would be an extremely complicated process of deconstructing a body down to its last atom and then transmitting that information to be perfectly reconstructed somewhere else. Even the tiniest flaw in the process would kill you. It would be insane to actually experiment on yourself after just one successful teleportation of a living thing. Even experimenting on monkeys would be insane. The fact that he wouldn't also double and triple check the pod was absolutely sterile before trying anything... He brought this on himself by trying to go too far too fast. Just a teleporter of objects is in itself the discovery of the century.

J made it through this better than expected. I knew the doughnut shot would get him. Never heard this called a romance before though. Scary? I'd say more tension and definitely body horror. Jeff did get something wrong, maybe. It sounded to me like the computer said that someone would have to serve as a template for a correct human genome and for that person to take on the fly genes. That means he'd be transferring the problem to another person, not merging with them. If that was the case, that would have been a really horrific ending to see him step out normal then Geena come out in a messed up fly form.
@tranya327
@tranya327 8 ай бұрын
Brundle-fly gave an accurate description of what would have happened. The computer said only that if the goal was to decrease to a minimum the percentage of fly in Brundle-fly, then Brundle-fly would need to merge with one or more pure-human subjects. If the teleporter had operated normally (if Stathis hadn't disabled Veronica's pod), Veronica and the baby would have merged with Brundle-fly. The DVD contains a scene that the director cut out of the final film: When test audiences watched it with the cut scene included, they ended up losing all sympathy for Seth Brundle (and you need to care about the characters, to want to watch to the film's end.) The cut scene involves Brundle-fly testing the 'merge-procedure' on a cat and a baboon. The resulting merged creature-abomination looks terrified, and/or in pain. It had two heads, placed on opposite ends of its fused body, with each head controlling a different set of muscles, so that it can't move or function as an integrated being. Partly (I think) to end the creature's suffering, and partly out of revulsion, Brundle-fly beats the creature to death with a pipe. ...The cut scene gives a more vivid description of what would have happened if Veronica and Brundle-fly had merged, but the decision to cut the cat-baboon sequence was the correct one: the audience didn't absolutely need the new information, but we do need to continue to care about Brundle-fly.
