Man they completely crushed it. With a full band and no sound check. 2nd best Live Aid performance for sure

These “oldies” taught the world a lesson on how to present a polished, professional, and most importantly, entertaining set. They came out on fire and didn’t relent until the end. I don’t think people appreciate just how fucking amazing this performance was.
@-Ricky_Spanish- Жыл бұрын
Doesn't seem like it was their crowd overall, but their performance just represents the high level of professionalism Motown had, and that couldn't be ignored. By the end of it, everyone was into it whether they knew/grew up with the songs or not. Absolutely legends.

I think they really won the audience over, you can hear them singing when he held the microphone. I wonder how many in the audience there thought they were going to be dull, only to leave amazed by them. I know that’s how I felt watching it at home back in the day. The Four Tops were like the Queen performance for Philly.

The Four Tops were always my favorite R&B group and Levi my favorite lead singer. They were truly a class act and very loyal to one another. They remained intact with no replacement singers until death took Lawrence Payton. The Temptations were also a great group but the Four Tops were TOPS.

My only gripe is whenever they performed, it was always their 60s hits. Never their ABC/Dunhill material: Keeper of the Castle, Ain’t no Woman like the one i got, Are you man enough etc.
@chicanobear134 жыл бұрын
Yes..agree.. loved those Dunhill hits.. more grit
@ghanasoul4 жыл бұрын
chicanobear13 You’re right. I’ll be honest, i prefer their ‘72-‘76 ABC/Dunhill material over most of their Motown stuff. The Motown stuff is great don’t get me wrong. Their classics. I just find it interesting that whenever they did TV appearances during the 80s, 90s etc it was always their 60s Motown material they performed. Their 70s material is forgotten and underrated.
@chicanobear134 жыл бұрын
@@ghanasoul well, the Tops loved to give the people what they wanted to hear, u can't deny their great catalog of hits.. but unfortunately longtime fans like us who accepted the new direction and wanted the new stuff were few.. i also was a big fan of the " Jean Terrell " era of the Supremes after Diana Ross.. sad because Tops did what stevie, marvin,Temps which was grow and don't get recognized for it
@innocenteventiorbetello4 жыл бұрын
that whole show was like a big party. Every act played nothing but their most classic stuff. I think that is why, Soulman.

Lack of high quality footage. The DVD set used the BBC and MTV sources and since this was basically a melody, it would sound weird if they started half way through their set. Either that and/or lack of space for the performance of the DVD.
