I was at Live Aid Philadelphia (yes, I guess I'm old). The three entertainers that were most impressive were Mick Jagger (no surprise) who had stage presence like no one and held 90,000 people in the palm of his hand. Such self-confidence you don't see...ever. Eric Clapton outshone everyone musically, and Thompson Twins, who blew me away with their performance that day. There were a lot of huge groups there who were put in the second tier by the Thompson Twins. I've never watched the DVD of the show (I should probably do that), I'm just going on what stayed with me for nearly 40 years now.

You know that I do and if this is just one of those games that we play So I'll sing you a new song, please don't cry anymore And then I'll ask your forgiveness, though I don't know just what I'm Asking it for Hold me now, warm my heart Stay with me, let loving start (let loving start)

It's always great to see this performance by the Thompson Twins - what a shame that "Hold Me Now" didn't make the official Live Aid DVD. But still a gem nonetheless. It's disheartening to read some of the cracks from the peanut gallery below... Yes, Tom was a bit flat, and the stage looked a bit chaotic - but the Thompson Twins barely had time to set up their equipment, and were already forced to cut a song from their set due to time constraints. In addition, I always felt that TT perhaps should've played a bit earlier in the day. Please understand that I am a huge TT fan, yet it certainly must have been difficult in 1985 to play live before Clapton, Phil Collins, and the Led Zep reunion!
