Any Helix user here? I just tried this technique and its sounds amazing. Now that last firmware update on helix (3.5) allows you to move mics around the cone and even delay one or both of them and set different levels for each mic, you can pretty much emulate the friedman technique. I use this video as reference, only thing i change was one of the amps. I used a jcm800 with a Mark iv.

I read the title as Friedman technique. I remember Glenn being stoked about this mic mount. Guitarist will do anythingthat make the real difference lol change speakers and miking techniques. Speakers and microphones aren’t as sexy as pickups and amplifiers. Euge always has killer tones and always sounds like Euge and that is probably the best compliment a guitarist can ever get in my opinion. Ola, Euge, Kyle, and Taylor get their tone out of any gear they demo. All guitarist get GAS to some extent, but these guys prove if you use your ears and the gear you have at your disposal you can get your sound out of anything. Even the gear Euge doesn’t like he still gets his tone out of it. He also has some of the coolest guitars on KZbin between his Tokais and ESP, LTD, I wish LTD would make the Jolly Rodger racing stripe guitar a signature production model it’s as cool as the Iron Cross in my opinion.

@Bloodispike 3 ай бұрын
Yes, I've been doing this for years with PodFarm without even realizing it was a named technique. You have a dual effect chain, and just have one cab on axis 57, and one off axis 57. Obviously it's not literally the same thing, but it gives the same sort of effect to the tone.

Fantastic playing my friend.... I get a great rock/metal tone using my Les Paul, EVH Iconic 40watt into Captor X at home. When I turn it up loud at gigs into my Atomic CLR powered monitor it sounds crap. All the connections are good. Any ideas please Euge. Thanks.
@EugeValovirta230V
@EugeValovirta230V Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’m not familiar with the Atomic but if it’s a basic full range monitor any amp would sound like s€*&t plugged directly to it. Guitar amps should be connected to guitar cabs / speakers which range is quite limited. Or if you have miked your cab and use the Atomic just to monitor that then probably the monitor is just not that good 😎.

I am gonna check this Fredman Technique out my self, whats quite interesting is that it seem to be very simple to get the guitars to sound really good, not much tweaking here and there, but i have a question, i dont have 5000 Euros to spend at the moment so is there some substitute for the SSD Fusion and the Tegeler Audio ? After all it seem to do quite some differece.. Thanks..
@EugeValovirta230V
@EugeValovirta230V Жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s simple and the angle of the mics is really important to get the correct phase cancellation of those high harsh frequencies. SSL makes separate plugins of the Fusion and the Tegeler Creme is basically an SSL style G-bus compressor (with adjustable sidechain lowcut) and Pultec style eq in one. Softube’s Tube-Tech (Pultec) eq plugin is really good and there’s many good SSL bus comp plugins on the market. Waves’ CLA MixDown is also good plugin and I’ve mixed songs / albums with just that in my mixbus before I bought the hardware stuff. As hardware stuff goes these two aren’t that expensive compared to similar high quality gear.
@HearGear
@HearGear Жыл бұрын
@@EugeValovirta230V I am not a software guy at all, its just a hazzle, i´d rather go for hardware if its not to expensive, since some years back i use STL Amphub, once it´s installed and working its all good, but if i install on another computer its just a hazzle to use iLOK license manager to deactivate and activate different licenses and what not, it can drive me crazy. i use Amphub only for demos and riffs at home, in my studio space i have all my amps and pedals and guitars and only using mics and cabs and Logic Pro, no software plugins or similar. i would want the signal comming in to the soundcard to be as good as possible so i dont have to mess around with EQ and alot of other plugins, i am looking for as much old school ways to do things as possible. Maybe just mess around with levels and pan and some little simple EQ and the master track before bouncing it to it´s finished Audio File.. :D

When double tracking with the Fredman technique, should I leave both mics panned in the center and then pan each take left and right?
@EugeValovirta230V
@EugeValovirta230V Жыл бұрын
To do it the original way you should sum them before hitting your audio interface so you get one signal. The whole idea is that they should be treated as one with the high end phase cancellation 👌. Panning is up to the mix. I usually pan rhythm gtrs hard L/R. I use Radial’s MIX 2:1 device for summing them into one before my mic pre. Didn’t use those on this video ’cos I wanted to show the phase cancellation thing etc. Hope this helps! 🤟

Euge, honest question, with all the great IRs nowadays, whats the point of going through all the trouble of micing a cab? Can you honestly tell the difference?
@EugeValovirta230V
@EugeValovirta230V Жыл бұрын
It’s fun and you can have exactly the sound you’re lookin for. There’s a reason why real gear in general is used in professional studios / productions. In a good mix you probably can’t hear a difference but when you get the sound right when recording usually you don’t have to do much in mixing. Sometimes nothing 😎. But good IRs, like Jens Bogren’s are really great and I’ve used, and still use, them a lot in my productions. I guess they’re a bit static compared to a real cab ’cos it’s a bit hard to capture a speaker moving air in real time into a very short WAV. Only a snapshot of it but it’s ”just” a snapshot 😊.
