From a "legal perspective" the open hand stance also allows bystanders to think you look helpless. Your hands aren't knuckled so you don't appear the aggressor. The upside is the attacker does not know what is coming and open hands look like a invitation to be attacked. Also, open hands allow for more options as far as deflect, grab, strike. Amen

I am in security and a few times I have taken this stance then would attack them, not getting hit for anyone. I try to move the opponent away from me then strike if I have to.

Your videos have helped me out a lot during my MMA sparring matches. For the last 2 years, I've been watching your videos and the techniques that have helped me the most are the arm bar from the guard, the bump and roll, and any of your punches and kicks.

I train in Jeet Kune Do, but I do respect Krav Maga for having the same philosophy to fighting, similar to that of Bruce Lee. The thing I find funny is that the stances sort of are polar opposites. JKD has a narrow fencing/boxing stance(bare knuckle mind you) and as shown here Krav Maga has a broad wide stance. I think JKD and Krav Maga can learn a lot from eachother!

I see some Jeet Kune Do principles here like the rear heel raised. Actually I prefer to put my power side front (I'm a righty so I use the southpaw stance) so my dominant hand and foot are closer to my opponent in which I can attack my opponent faster, my hand and foot travels less distance so my opponent has little time to see and react to my attacks. Putting you dominant hand and foot to the front also lessens or eliminates any telegraphic moves, which makes my attacks harder to defend against.

Mr Eric, I'm not haven't been a fan of a few of Dravens videos. But the stance works. It's pretty universal for MMA, pancrase, Muay Thai. The later two are my arts. If a person stands in too protective of a posture they will not be able to attack. Take in mind Draven isn't sitting there waiting to be hit. Krav Maga is a straight forward method of confrontation and destruction.

universal?. does mma allow groin shot or machete. do u even look at boxing or fencing. they attack fast as fuck and they move fast too. only mike Tyson can pull this stance off. other boxer choose closing stance to fight. and do u even practice martial art?

Disliked your video due to the weird attack you did at the camera and the upbeat music. Seems more like you were trying to make self defense fun and that makes me uncomfortable. A real fight, is not fun

+mr Eric, that's funny. In my experience at least, the more traditional kickboxing and boxing stances (where the rear foot is slightly angled and not parallel to the front foot- like in this video) have always made me more susceptible to accidental groin kicks when my partner/"opponent" attacks the inside of my lead leg. The more traditional stances are designed to angle your body in order to make you a smaller target for your opponent, but the same angle also creates a ramp for inside, front leg kicks to make inadvertent contact with your balls. You see it often in the UFC, most accidental groin strikes happen off of inside lead leg kicks.

My bad... judging by your other posts on this video, you have some experience with martial arts stances. I wasn't trying to talk down to you. Anyway, as far as striking goes, I've trained Muay Thai (4 years, still do), "Olympic style" boxing (3 years, still do), and Krav Maga (6 years, stopped this year), but I prefer the stance in the video. Keeping my feet pointed parallel to each other seems to make my kicks faster and stronger and also makes checking kicks easier. It also gives me a longer reach on my cross. I'd never say "x" stance is better than "y" stance, so I guess it's just a matter of preference. Cheers.

My old Muay Thai instructor used this stance a lot and could block almost all attacks to the groined

I always try to keep feet parallel, front foot pointing at opponents centre of gravity, and my knee bent slightly forward and inward, protecting the groin, most front kicks to the groin end up hitting my knee instead, requires proper positioning vs opponent though.
