A robust panel discussion on The Future of Healthy Cities provided an enlightening experience for audience members during The Exchange: Critical Conversations with Michigan Public Health.
The panelists included:
Isabelle Anguelovski: director of The Barcelona Lab for Urban Environmental Justice and Sustainability and an ICREA research professor at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona.
Abdullah Hammoud: Mayor of Dearborn, Michigan, and MPH '12
Marc Zimmerman: Professor of Health Behavior and Health Education at the University of Michigan School of Public Health
Alexa Bush: landscape architect and program manager at the Kresge Foundation
Moderator: Roshanak Mehdipanah: Associate Professor of Health Behavior and Health Education at the University of Michigan School of Public Health
The panel discussed greening, housing needs, education, taxes, infrastructure, and a public health approach to urban and city planning.
The Exchange: Critical Conversations with Michigan Public Health debuted in the Fall of 2023 by exploring the topic of The Future of Healthy Cities.
The programming was created with Lu Wang, professor of biostatistics, and Roshanak Medhipanah, associate professor of Health Behavior and Health Education, who co-lead Public Health IDEAS for Creating Healthy and Equitable Cities. Public Health IDEAS is a research initiative at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, with IDEAS representing Interdisciplinary Discovery, Engagement + Actions for Society.
