Amber, I've been a subscriber for some years. I've enjoyed that you're able to podcast regularly (rather than infrequently) and I don't really care what day you post or the length of the episode. I watch when I can and for ever how long I might have available at that time. It's recorded - I can watch on my schedule! I can appreciate that editing is time-consuming. And longer episodes take longer to edit and upload. So, if it means you podcast less frequently, go with shorter ones. But, really it has to work for you or it becomes a burden. I enjoy the mix of "regular" episodes, seeing what you are working on and want to work on, with the occasional pattern round-up. (And thank you for the Rav bundles for the reasons you described. There were so many things I hadn't seen in the 60 gifts!) The podcasts that are more vlogging style I tend to skip. In fact, I'm sad when so many podcasters switch to daily/weekly vlogs in December. First of all, I can't keep up with all of them. Secondly, seeing all the activity stresses me out! Ha ha! I don't mind seeing "other" things within a regular episode, just not that for the whole episode. Amber, I find the patterns you select to be interesting and things I would enjoy knitting myself. I enjoy you make a variety of garments, socks, accessories, home decor and you crochet as well. I like the mix of yarns you use (and not heavy on the indie-dyed ones). I like hearing what works and doesn't work in patterns, styles, fit, etc. I like that you are not a designer or a yarn dyer or a shop owner. You are someone I'd enjoy meeting for coffee and knit chat! But since you live in PA, I tune in to your podcast instead. 🤩

I am considering dng an afterthought heel. I will probably do at least an inch of knitting around before starting the decreases. I need a 2 1/2” to 2 3/4” heel (depth). That is what my heel flap measures for that type of heel. Hope this makes sense.

I live on the southern coast of Finland on almost the same latitude as Anchorage, Alaska. Every morning (November) when I go to work it's dark and when I go home in the afternoon it's dark. Still Finns and Danes top the list of who are the happiest people in the world. I am not denying that Finland has a high suicide rate, but Finns are also a tenacious people who has overcome huge difficulties (war, famine) throughout history. This time of year we also like the Danish "hygge"-mentality. We start new knitting projects, put on our woolly socks, light candles, eat some gingerbread cookies and drink mulled wine. We focus on the fact that winter solstice is near, and after that days get longer again, one rooster step a day.

Hi, Amber. I am very new to your podcast, but am enjoying it very much! Please don't take negative comments to heart. I truly appreciate the way you put yourself out there. Just keep being you!

Re your questions before I forget - the length doesn’t matter to me, the day of the week doesn’t matter to me and I like your content as it is. I prefer more knitting than life snippets as a general rule with podcasts, I love following along on projects and seeing what other people enjoy knitting. When podcasts switch over to sponsored content or if I feel like I’m being sold to I usually lose interest. I appreciate your balanced approach to selecting yarns and projects and your calm manner. I love your taste in selecting patterns for your compilation videos - and I don’t know why people can’t just use the search function in Ravelry to find patterns you suggest. I don’t knit garments but I enjoy watching those who do. I am also watching the month of Hygge, today in northern MN it feels like her last video with rain and lights on at noon so I can see to knit. I find November and March to be my toughest months with so many grey days. In sum, continue to do what you enjoy!

Being a knitting podcaster myself, I really enjoyed your open and honest talk about what it's like being a content creator, staying true to yourself, negative comments etc. Also, mentioning podcasts you enjoy watching yourself is such a great idea! I feel very much inclined to do something similar in my next video. ☺

Amber- make the kind of podcast that brings you joy….those will bring your viewers joy too. Length of podcast doesn’t matter to me….if I can’t watch in one sitting, I come back. Day of the week also doesn’t matter…I smile when i see the notification about a new episode but don’t pay attention to any specific time frame. Love your compilation videos and personally prefer the link to the bundle. It would be a massive task to provide links to each pattern. Thanks for your contribution to the knitting community.

Hi Amber, I am the same as you when it comes to pulling through. I hardly ever give up :) In the case of the dreaded sleeve: without knowing the sweater pattern in detail, it might help if you define 1 center stitch on the top row of your sleeve, which always stays the same throughout all rows as they grow. What this gives you is a vertical line to mirror your motifs on either side. All you then have to do is spacing the motifs going from the center stitch of each row outward towards the edges. From what I see, the lace motif has an uneven number of stitches, i.e., provides a vertical center stitch in each row, from where you count outward to space all your motifs. I hope this helps.

Thank you for another episode, Amber! Yours is one of only a few podcasts that I always make sure to watch as soon as I can. Like you feel about Ina, I am always so excited to see a new episode from you! To answer your questions about what I prefer in episodes moving forward, I do not mind the longer episodes and perhaps even prefer a longer to a shorter episode from you. My favorite episodes are regular knitting episodes with blog/daily life stuff thrown in. I love seeing what you and your beautiful family are up to. I love watching you read your Bible in the morning. I love watching you make dinner or bake bread. And I also love seeing and hearing about all of the things that you are knitting. As for day of the week, it doesn’t matter to me. I would love to know that I could expect a regular episode from you each week, but honestly, I would be worried that you might burn yourself out with that kind of pressure to produce so frequently and I don’t want to risk it. I was actually nervous when I saw the title of your episode and thought you were going to tell us that you were quitting or drastically scaling back - so please don’t overcommit! I am really looking forward to your Vlogmas! Whatever you decide moving forward, I’ll be watching and grateful for you. May God bless you and your wonderful family this holiday season and always. ❤

I loved this chatty video, Amber! When you said you were the type of person to not want to give up, even when something is really challenging, it made me think that might be a common trait of a lot of us knitters. I think learning to knit and make the first project, the first sweater, the first colourwork, and so on, is what keeps us captivated.
@alovelyyarnКүн бұрын
Hi Sandy! Yes, I think you are correct! It is always fun to learn something new. I just have to be in the right headspace. Sometimes I want to knit purely to zone out. Those are not good times to work on challenging knitting projects so that's when I usually just pick up a sock. I'm pretty sure that's par for course for most knitters!

Hi, Amber. I don’t mind longer episodes, if I’m short on time, I just pick up where I left off later. It doesn’t matter to me what day of the week you post or how often. I’m always excited when a new episode arrives in any event. I enjoy chatty episodes with a little bit of vlogging. I find it hard to watch episodes that are mostly video content because I’m concentrating on my knitting and can’t watch closely enough. I’ve always enjoyed Arne and Carlos’s “Sit and Knit a Bit” because I can follow along without having to watch too closely. I enjoy hearing about you and your family and your activities in Western PA - like hiking, gardening, cooking, knitting and spinning. Thank you for all you do!

Hi Karen. Thank you. I have no idea how many ads actually run during my videos. There is no way for me to know for sure. KZbin automatically puts A LOT of ad breaks in so I always go in and remove most of them. However, not all of the ad breaks actually mean an ad will play, so I never know how many ads are actually being played.

Question responses: 1) In general, I like to watch episodes that are an hour or less so I can watch them all in one sitting. BUT if the topics need more time, no big deal. 2) How often you post and what day makes no difference to me. 3) I like videos with knitting content the best. Vlogs with daily activity & music is OK but if I have limited time I will skip those. I am always excited to see an episode of yours pop up in my notifications!

Hi Amber, I just worked on a pattern that I must have started and frogged at least 10 times. It also involved German short rows and another process ( raglan Increases) at the same time. My brain just couldn’t stand being ‘turned and increased’ at the same time. I finally found another pattern that made a similar sweater and the directions were as clear as day and my relief from blaming myself and frustration with starting over disappeared. Also viewing your yarn online it doesn’t look like the blues of the sleeve and the body match. Take your time back and find another pattern that fits your style of thinking

Dear Amber, I am agreeable to whichever path you choose for your podcast or vlog, as long as it continues, whenever you choose. I imagine Vlogmas could be done in a shorter format, like a Christmas card with a few pages, 5 scenes, 5 edits, less edits, less stress. But I'm just guessing as I've never made a KZbin video. I've said before, watching you is like having a visit with a neighbor, and one day I'll get over my second sock syndrome. You are so good at making socks! Please enjoy good health this holiday season. I wish you Peace and Blessings always!🧶

Hi Amber. Basically do what brings you joy and that will bring others joy. I’m a new garment knitter and enjoy your calm, informative, authentic podcasts. I have no preference for length of episode or day of week. I’m not enthusiastic about life updates/ vlogmas but KZbin allows me to choose what I watch and when I watch. Viewers are responsible for controlling what they watch. As you state, people are individuals and it is impossible to please everyone and definitely not all the time. I could open the ravelry bundle and prefer this to lots of individual links as I get a visual with each entry. Looking forward to your next episode.

I’ve been a subscriber since you started your KZbin channel. I look forward to watching, no matter what you have to share knitwise or chatting wise about your gardening, your crafts, etc. I am delightfully surprised when I see a new podcast so I don’t care what day of the week, or the randomness of those days. I love longer vlogs rather than shorter ones. I adore your vlogmas! I just love to see your everyday activities from walks, baking, crafting, shopping, or just chatting. I look forward to those every single day. I’m pretty easy to please, and am always impressed with your knitting ! I can’t recall any of the other questions. I love seeing Brad and your sons and daughter when they give surprise cameos. So, whatever you do, whenever you do it, I will be thrilled. As far as favorite podcasts, of course you are one of mine! Another I enjoy is Editable Thoughts, THREE ply Yarn ( they are on a break right now), and My Bashful Life….not a knitting podcast, but just a delightful lady who decorates, shares recipes, and ideas for everyday life. I watch and subscribe to many more. I would rather watch my KZbin friends than TV. I feel like you are a neighbor who stops and chats with me. It makes me very happy, and on sad days when I’m not feeling my best, you all brighten my days. My favorite time is December to watch all of my “friends” do their vlogmas episodes. I just get to know you so much better. I recently found a sweet young mother who owns a yarn shop in the Deep South. She has a cute little girl, is a natural tea drinker, and I think her meals she prepares are healthy and unusual to me. She did vlogtober and I loved it! Her channel is Paper Crane Yarns. Well, that’s it for today. I am looking forward to your scrappy episode. I loved the one you did last year. Until next time….take care….Cindi❤

Hi Amber…just wanted to give you my thoughts on your questions you put out on your last podcast… I usually look for podcasts that run 30-40 minutes to watch…the day of the week isn’t important to me (I watch whenever I get the chance)…I am very happy about your content material and have enjoyed your pattern bundle episodes a lot…and lastly, my favorite vlogmas to watch are the ones where a podcaster will group a week’s worth of content into one episode featuring their crafting, recipes, and such. I have more than one Vlogmas podcaster I watch and I don’t always have time to keep up with a daily vlog, so a group episode is more to my liking. Keep up the great work and stay healthy this year!

About Socks… as I’ve learned how to knit sock I’ve learned the shadow wrap heel which is a short row heel like the afterthought heel and stocked to it because I didn’t know other heels. Yes it looks pretty on self striping yarn. But they’ve never fit super well and I’ve learned the heel flap and gusset heel. Since then I’ve never ever knitted a short row heel again even if it messes up stripes for a few rows. For me personally a well fitting sock is much more important than three slimmer stripes. But that’s just me 😂 I love your Podcast and your kind warm welcoming charisma. It always makes me smile when you upload a new episode!

Hello Amber, thank you for your absolutely lovely presence and content. I’m smitten with the colorwork sweater you are wearing. 😊 To answer as many of your questions as I can remember: I prefer somewhat longer videos but honestly, I’m just happy to take what I can get😅. I do not mind which day you post, my schedule changes so I listen when I have time. I do like the chatty videos, because I tend to like to knit while watching and sometimes my eyes need to be on my hands… but I do enjoy seeing little glimpses of other knitter’s lives, where they live, travel, etc. I’m very relieved that you are not thinking of stopping - my heart stopped a second every time you said you wanted to discuss “the future of the channel”😂. Thanks for the recommendations, I will check those out. Request: colorwork patterns (maybe ones you yourself have knit) suitable for beginners and perhaps helpful tips when starting out with colorwork? I have recently returned to the US from north eastern Germany… the daylight hours there are 2-3 fewer than they are here, and most often, the sky remains the same dull grey color even when the sun comes up. I am drinking every single moment of sun we have here, so grateful for the light. But yes, I too have learned to bring out all the tea-lights, all the string lights, the blankets, the plush pillows, and steaming mugs of cocoa and tea.

1. Sock heels: My all-time favorite heel is the padded Sweet Tomato Heel by the late Cat Bordhi. I'm thinking the solid color yarn can be grafted in for that as there are 2 full rounds between each wedge of the heel (I always do 3 wedges). You might do a practice heel by knitting a few rounds of stockinette before and after. 2. Channel suggestion: This is something I'm adopting to reduce my WIPs and keep me organized. A. Have a separate bag or inexpensive container for each project. B. Give yourself a finish date and break pattern down as if you are doing a knit-along with number of rows per day that you want to accomplish.

You could just put a band of lace around the lower arm just above the ribbing. Also, knit the arm in stocking knit stitch, don't decrease and do a long band of ribbing, say 4-6 inches.

Hi Amber, First, I LOVE your sweater! I have not knit an adult sweater yet. I have knit more than a few baby sweater sets though. Baby items have always been my favorite items to crochet & knit. I really enjoy spending time "hanging out" with you. I could see us knitting and chatting in a comfy coffee shop somewhere, if only we were in the same state. Lol! I'm all the way in California! I love your content. Whether you're just in a mood to chat, have a bunch of makes in process that you want to share or a "bundle" of patterns we might want to try... it's ALL good as far as I'm concerned. 😊 And, the length of videos is purely up to you. Also, whatever day of the week is convenient for you is fine with me. I watch my notifications and view videos when I can. Sometimes I may have to break up my viewing time or fall behind but, I always try to watch like and comment. I've even shared video links on Facebook or in text messages. Well, before my comment gets too much longer, I like your channel for you. You're becoming one of my favorites to watch. Just keep being true to yourself, don't let the "Trolls" get you down when they come out from under their bridges to throw stones. Most of our mothers taught us manners and that if we don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. You're doing great, Amber! ✌️💜🧶🧦

Hi, thanks for the vlog recommendations … I am now following both. I follow many because I like to see people from other countries. I am Canadian. I don’t watch vlogs that are 2+ hours, but quite enjoy those at @ hour ish. Because I follow so many, I see lots of different content and am happy with vlogs, sit down and knitting chat, dream knits, etc. I like it all. In terms of a vlog I love is Edible Thoughts Makes. I am always so happy when I see she has posted.

Hi Amber, I have a couple of opinions on the questions you asked ~ on the type of podcast, I prefer either the regular or vlog material over the special episodes. (But the special episodes are also enjoyable.). I usually like around 30 minute podcast. But if they’re longer, I just break them into smaller segments. As far as how often you should post, I think there’s a place for both regular and irregular podcasts so it really doesn’t matter to me. I love your podcast recommendations and have started watching many because of your suggestions. I almost always learn something from your episodes. Thank you so much for the time, effort, and love you put into them. It is appreciated.

Awesome podcast Amber. I love Moran’s Crochet Objet podcast… she is always happy and never complains but grateful for what they have. A lesson for all of us… be grateful for what we have been given. I love the sweater you are wearing, I so wish I could wear sweaters like that in Phoenix.

I like your podcast and I think you should do it the way you feel comfortable with. If you enjoy what you're doing it will be enjoyable to watch. There will always be someone who thinks you should do it differently. If you're having fun we will have too. Looking forward to your next great episode, whenever that'll be out. 😊

The length of your episodes doesn't matter as I feel free to pause and click on again when I have time. I actually like saving some to have fun stuff to watch another time. I consider my KZbin channels, carefully curated by me for friendly, respectful, kind content, to be visits with friends. Therefore, as with a face to face friend, I enjoy and welcome randomly timed and not always regular days. It's like when a note or call comes from a friend, I'll enjoy it as I can as soon as I can. I appreciate your hard work, thoughtfulness, ethic, and willingness to share who you are with your Tube friends. There, that's my humble input. Bless you!!

Thanks for another interesting video. Regarding the sleeves that were making you crazy: when I knit lace or textured patterns I always put light bulb stitch markers on the needle at the pattern repeat intervals. That way, if you're knitting flat and have decreases for armholes, you can "fake" the pattern repeats that slowly disappear at the edges as you decrease while keeping all other repeats intact. Same goes for in the round (typically sleeves). Just fake the pattern repeats on the underside of the sleeve that slowly disappear as you decrease. Your solution is perfect, though. Who will notice or care that your repeats are not evenly spaced? Nobody! And remember: the pursuit of perfection is self-abuse of the highest order. Let's all be kind to ourselves. 🙂

Amber, I love your channel. I do really enjoy knowing what day a podcast will be up. However, it’s not that big of a deal. I enjoy all of your content and I feel like it’s great just the way you do it.

I love your podcasts and get excited when I see that a new one is up and ready to watch. I enjoy the longer episodes and really like it when you share family and home tidbits. I do enjoy the special segments where you share specific patterns but like the regular episodes just as much. I’m really looking forward to your Vlogmas this year and I’m praying that you stay healthy and don’t wear yourself out with too many obligations. As much as we all love watching your podcasts your family and health must come first. ❤️

Hi Amber, I really enjoy your mix of project update videos and pattern bundle discussion videos. I find the patterns you work on really interesting. Vlogs look like a lot of work! So I think that you need to enjoy the process of it, not just do it because your audience wants it. I really don't mind length or day, I just enjoy your videos when they pop up 😊

Thank you for your input! Yes, vlogs are definitely more work, and a lot of the difficulty comes from the fact that I edit on my phone. Lol. I'm saving for a new laptop so that I can use editing software on a larger screen to make it all easier. My current laptop is SOOOO old that it doesn't support editing videos.

Hi Amber, I'm happy to watch whatever you are able to put up. Length doesn't matter, I will watch in parts if I must. Any content is fine, but I think whatever is easiest for you is preferable. I feel like we know your whole family by now, so it's always nice to see them. I still remember that episode where you and Lily were making things with the hobby clay. That was so cool and you're both very talented. I never expect to get a reply on a comment, a heart is plenty. I don't expect you to use your time composing replies back. Really, whatever and whenever you are able to sit down and chat with us is great. And to be honest, I am subscribed to so many channels that I don't even notice if anyone is posting on a particular day or schedule. I just see what comes up in my subscriptions list and then I add what I want to see to my watch later queue, and then watch from there when I can. Some channels I don't watch all their videos, but I always watch yours. I always want to see what you're up to. Same with Ina Knits. Sorry this is so long. Jeanne

Hi Amber. One of the reasons l follow your podcast is your content. Just let it be like it is right now. Today l started with my morning coffee and then knitted through the rest of the podcast. About the Cumulus sweather l agree with you about the double strand of mohair. I have knitted one in Pure silk from Knitting for Olive and one in a combination of Tynn Line and Isager mohair and l will make more of that combination. And l want to thank you for all the 60 nice patterns. You gave me great ideas for Christmas presents. I live in Norway and l think the Nordic countries must have inventet the words hygge and cozy with our long dark days in mind. Have a wonderful day and looking forward to your next one. Love from Norway

Hi Amber, answering your questions. Length of podcasts 30-45 minute episodes are a great length. Knitting vs Vlogs . I have enjoyed when people intermix them. Posting schedule for putting up videos- I love looking forward to them and love when I know they are posting on a day. However you taping it and editing could be any day with posting on a day of the week you choose. I say you do you! That is the reason I watch. ❤😊

Regarding heels on socks. I really like Earth Tones Girl’s shadow wrap short row heel. She has a video how to and I find that heel fits really well and dosen’t slip down and the heel is not difficult. Second time making I didn’t even have to rewatch the video.

I agree with you about the heel flap and gusset. When I'm using a self striping, I just do the heel flap and heel cup in a matching yarn, not the striped yarn
@alovelyyarnКүн бұрын
Ok, yes, that is what I have always done. I am so torn with this but will probably just do my normal thing on this pair and then try an afterthought heel for a pair of socks for myself so that I can see how they feel!

@alovelyyarn I think the afterthought heel looks like it would be good for people with flatter feet. I feel the heel flap is needed for people with high arches

I also like to hear about your garden and everyday life. I would love to see a vlogmas from you. Which day you release your podcast doesn’t, matter to me😊 Thanks for making other podcasts recommendations and just thank you for everything.

I honestly watch every single thing you post. The length doesn't matter to me and I enjoy both your knitting updates as well as your more vlog type videos. A mixture of knitting and daily life sounds great. The day of week you post doesn't matter to me at all because it's a little unexpected surprise when you show up in my feed. I'm looking forward to your scrappy advent pattern video. Maybe I'll dig into my scraps and knit along on whatever pattern you decide to work on in December.

If you have a lot to say, do a long show. If not, keep it shorter. If you have to take a break, then take a break! 🤗😊 I have notifications, so I get a message to tell me when you have new content. I love the pattern recommendations as well as the regular format. I sit and knit while you talk. You have a gentle presence. I really like it. As a purely personal point, I find I get bored when someone talks about just one project, but that’s just me. Keep up the great work.

Hi Amber. I’m a fairly new subscriber. I live on the west coast of Florida. It doesn’t matter to me when you post. I’m retired and just watch whenever it comes up. I don’t have a preference as to what you video. I just enjoy hearing about knitting and crocheting. I loved th one you did recently of a Ravelry bundle you made. I never saw that done before. It made it so easy to get the patterns. I don’t do advents either. I don’t have that kind of money. I’m living on a small pension and social security. Thanks for all you do. 🧶

Love your podcasts. Don't care how short or long since I can pause and continue in spurts if longer. Don't cate what time of day or weekday. Love to see you weekly or every couple of weeks, whatever works for you. Mixed content is nice, someitnitting, some chatting. Just be you. Praying you don't go away. Look forward to each podcast. Vlogmas I prefer very short, 15 to 20 minutes enough.

Yours is one of my favourite podcasts. You do whatever works and feels right for you 😊. As for the heel on the self striping sock, I too am a fan of the heel flap and gusset. I find that the stripe width difference is very minimal when using self striping yarn, so I still do my usual heel flap and gusset (with a contrast yarn) and continue on with with the striping yarn as usual.
@jatraveler1277Күн бұрын
I just finished my first self stripping sock. I inserted a different color heel flap and gusset. It looks wonderful. I always do that heel and love how it fits.

I enjoy both regualr podcasts and your Ravelry bundles. What I think is that if you concentrate on prodcuing the content that YOU most enjoy at any one time, then that will flow into what the experience is like for your viewers. Regarding socks. i did my first forthought heel recently and realised very quickly that they were not going to fit on my foot. Luckily the socks were for me so I could try them on as often as I neeed to. Anyway, I googled how to make them fit better and quickly found some solutions that work for both forethought and afterthought heels. I ended up doing a mix - I picked up an extra stitch at either end of the top and bottom of the gap (ie 4 extra stitches.) I did a few extra rounds befor beginning the decreases. I included a short row wedge to create a little more room. They ended up looking good and fitting well, and left the patterned part of the sock nice and uninterrupted. Good luck with yours!

Love this video, and honestly it is super vulnerable to ask people for feedback, so kudos to you. For me , I watch all types of episodes really, I like the company. But it is true that lately I gravitate towards 30/35 min max videos first (just because I can squeeze them easier in a busy day) and the longer ones I tend to watch them in slots of 30 min when I can but unless I love the person I know I disconnect more often mentally. I think you don´t have to worry about showing up in an authentic way because you come across as your genuine self. At least that is what I find with your channel. Wishing you a super lovely weekend ahead!

Such a lovely episode, Amber, and enjoyed all your musings. Your blue sweater with mohair sleeves is really beautiful and elegant! I would never have known there was anything wrong with those sleeves if you hadn't said so! I discovered Moran about 2 months ago, and have also loved her gracious and calm style. In fact, her style really reminded me of YOU - especially your first Christmas vlogs where you just showed your daily run-up to Christmas in your consistent, methodical, calm way. Moran is a lovely lady living in a challenging place with so much grace - I pray for her a lot! I enjoy your podcast very much - am delighted whenever I see a new one pop up - so I would say just keep doing all you have been doing because it works great! 😘

From a purely personal point of view I prefer regular days and about 30 mins with mixed content if you want to add things, say, from your garden or family. However I love your podcasts so much I would always say whatever your prefer to do is the best way forward for you because you are the one that's going to the trouble to do something for us.
