If you like DDM, maybe you would like "Warhammer: Underworlds". It functions similiarly, but with less reliance on the dice. Problem: They don't have the Yugioh Monsters :( No Time Wizard or the like. Anyway, if you ever develop a game, please share it on your channel. My friends and me would love to check it out! 😃

Speaking of the tabletop gaming, I've always found it interesting how much of a bookend Bakura's character was: He makes his debut with his dark side trapping Yugi and the others in a tabletop RPG, and his finale is his dark side trapping them in the Shadow Memory Tabletop RPG. Granted, the Zorc reveal retroactively made the initial debut a preview of his endgame plans, but otherwise it all came full circle.
@alienonlsd32093 ай бұрын
Also bakura had an interesting line that weirdly became foreshadowing after zorc was revealed. " I am a thief and a stealer of men Souls" which considering we know that Kazuki did not have the whole story written at that point is pretty interesting to see how that line very much foreshadows the reveal
@windscar153 ай бұрын
Bakura was my least favorite of all of them. It got to the point in Battle City where it felt like the distinction between the evil and normal versions wasn’t even there anymore. The fact that they kept hanging around a guy who was obviously evil just never sat right with me.
@snowboundwhale68603 ай бұрын
It's funny to me that the difference between the manga and anime shuffles Bakura's moments around in a way that creates a need for anime only duels. His tabletop arc is pretty important for establishing his character & property of being a parallel to Yugi as another millenium item holder whose item is possessed by an ancient spirit. But the anime we know starts from Yugioh Duelist/ Duelist Kingdom, so they add in the duel against Bakura where he puts the gang's souls in cards to establish the spirit of the ring's presence as a duel monsters reflavour of the ttrpg and just shuffle it into the night's stay at the island before the duel vs Panik. Then later we have this, the dungeon dice monsters duel where Otogi confiscates Yugi's millenium puzzle and he's forced to fight without the pharaoh, which ends with the puzzle being broken apart despite Yugi winning, and Yami Bakura using his millennium ring to seal a piece of his own soul into one of the puzzle pieces as setup for his endgame. The anime removes Otogi's father as a character and doesn't have Duke take Yugi's puzzle, so instead we have Bandit Keith coming back as a rare hunter who steals the puzzle because Yugi is the dumbest smart man alive, then breaks the puzzle after duelling him. The anime has Yami Bakura show up as the first of Yugi's friends who've come looking for him only after deliberately obfuscating the path to find them that Keith left to slow the others down, and does his soul parasite thing there. The entire duel is only here because Bakura needs to do his thing and the moment he would've done it was removed from the DDM arc.

I think that without another company stepping up and obtaining license to make product better than Konami, Shueisha and Studio Dice will still stand by Konami on this matter. It was exactly how Konami became one of the IP holders in the first place, by making the videogames of the franchise and having them being absolute hits on the market, and later expanding on the card game with the anime (the filler arcs and GX onwards are made with the purpose of making more cards, after all).
@NotMyRealName63 ай бұрын
I'd let Konami continue manufacturing the card game, but with Shueishia's direct oversight, just because relaunching the card game from the beginning is at this point unfeasible. As in, Konami just prints the cards, but has zero creative control, and literally only the cards. Hell, I wish Kazuki Takahashi had had the chance to either take direct control of the brand himself, and/or put it in the hands of someone trustworthy, someone who has complete veto power over any decision Konami makes. We already know he barred Konami from censoring any card artworks he himself drew, so we know he had at least some influence over the game.

@@DarkSymphony777 I don't think it's solely on the players that the game wasn't a success (or lack of player interest, exactly). The product wasn't exactly stellar with the crap components and excessive price compared to its card counterparts. Especially when there were mini games that had generally better quality minis and cards to go with them for less money. I wanted Dungeon Dice Monsters a lot but my dad was appalled by the price. Few years later, Wizkids kinda put out a bunch of cheap entry minis games (Heroclix being one of their bigger ones) and then WOTC had things like D&D Miniatures game, there was the Star Wars minis games, etc and most of those packs gave you 5 figures for 10-15 bucks depending on the sets. DDM has some neat ideas and I think if they really refined the mechanics, monster abilities and gave minis that weren't totally horrendous along with quality components while not being an absurd price point then people would really show some interest. Hell, I was hoping the success of the YGO themed Heroclix set might entice Konami to consider revisiting the game and I know a LOT of people in my area were basically pleading for a new DDM because the YGO clix were really, really cool and were what we wanted from DDM to begin with at just a base level. Man. All of this is making me realize just how bad Konami is at tabletop/card game design. Like I always figured Yu Gi Oh's issues were due to it being designed by someone who liked card games but wasn't a designer and Konami having to work with what the manga set up. But here they've got something comparatively fresh, and... it's awful. Nothing about the established groundwork requires this kind of bad balancing, with so many chaff/jank card- er, dice. The physical game has issues based on having so much actual physical stuff but a video game version should alleviate that (rolling the dice, spreading out the dice, price of dice, etc.) and yet it sounds so poorly balanced.

Maybe rename some things, divide all values by 10, increase the life total and subtract the attack power of the attacker from the life total, so high power creatures have actual value and spamming low level creatures isn't all you need to do. Go Dice Roll! On the note of narrative, I’m thinking that taking some cues from the Devil Children/DemiKids games would be a good way to steer the narrative. You check out the missing brother’s hangouts and find clues that he’s been scoping out the dangerous parts of town, necessitating you to build up your rank to gain access, fight your way through, and realize way too late that you missed Yume’s brother and he’s gone somewhere even more treacherous. So the cycle repeats till the whole town map is marked and you’ve turned up empty-handed. Then a big tournament is called and you’ve got nothing better to do, so you… and every major boss character in the game… turn up to compete. Cue shocking plot twist that calls for you to win the tourney to face the brother as the final boss.

Go! Dice Roll! Yeah, I'm really sad Dungeon Dice Monsters doesn't have its own thing going on. I really loved the concept and I also have a physical starter set. Always wanted to see a dedicated game made around it. I think it would've been fun. I mean, people play Warhammer... however that works with its minis and playsets, so I think there really could be something in a simpler Dungeon Dice Monster-like game that would work, especially now with our tech. We could easily create some digital version that could gain mass appeal. I'm super sad Konami dropped the ball so hard, especially looking at Pokemon and its many offshoots like Mystery Dungeon. I think there is something to incorporating maps and traversal into something like this. Some of my favorite Yugioh episodes, specifically of the OG, are the episodes dealing with any sort of labyrinth or maze. It changed the game so radically and had this fun aspect that simply pitting the cards against one another didn't have. There was a higher level of strategy where positioning mattered, and card effects like Magical Hats and Mystic Box functioned in familiar matter but with the added nuance of repositioning monsters! I've always loved that aspect and I just wish we got more it. Man... now I wish my Duelists of the Roses hadn't been stolen....

Go! Dice Roll! I loved DDM so much and I'm heart broken over it. Although with how long it's been it makes me wonder if you could make a game and call it "Dungeon Dice Masters" or something similar hahaha

well I vote for a Dungeon Dice Monster spiritual successor using your neo version as a video game

I’m glad, but the only one who feels like the Yu-Gi-Oh anime has completely lost everything appealing about itself. Tho personally I like duke’s motive in the anime more

I've aways thought the reason ddm wasn't successful was due to logistics of playing a game with collectibles dices, for card games, you got a binder and you good for your next 400 or so cards, and organized boxes can go to the thousands, i thing the game could have been a success, but as digital game, where collecting and storing isn't an issue, heck, i play magic the gathering and i know the hell that is going through my years worth of cards just to get that one common card that i know i got like 4 years ago (Corridor Monitor if anyone wants to know)

GO DICE ROLL! Honestly, given the surge in Table top gaming, I could see Dungeon Dice Monsters gaining alot of popularity with some tweaks. Imagine getting to custom paint minis of your favorite monsters or color coordinating your teams. That'd be so fun

I like the way you're trying to theoretically fix it. I also think the changed idea for summoning is a good one. But I feel like it takes too much of the luck out of summoning monsters. The amount of luck needed for the normal game isn't that good either, cause summoning any monster can still take multiple turns. maybe some possible ideas/ changes that could help the game: - monsters are summonable with just one summon crest, but if done this way they are weaker (3 crest summon possible => makes summon extra strong) - zone around dungeon master (to keep problems away like a state where a player cannot summon anything) * only you can summon a monster in it * if player doesn't control any monster + no place to summon another monster => can be used again * if nothing summoned in this zone => completely walkable by enemy monsters - archetypes about: dice reroll/ luck, (if first idea would work) unable to summon with 1 crest, field control (double summon/ dungeon creation), defenders/ blocking, ... - draw 4-5 die out of which player can choose 3 to throw => to give more control to the player

My only contact with the game as a kid was fiding one of the figures in one of my classes as a kid; it was the big bubble mech. This one at 8:07 ... I think it may even be before I knew about Yu Gi Oh (I mainly grew up with Pokemon)

For what its worth I think your changes to DDM sounds pretty fun all things considered. I played the DDM game as a kid but couldn't get the physical set and it was always something I thought I would enjoy playing. Wonder if it would be possible to mod your changes into a rom of the DDM video game to test how it would play?

Am I the only one who's totally down to support the making of a Kamen Dice Monsters rom hack, or even mobile app? Shiz would be fire.

If people are able to support it monetarily and help me code it, I'd love to.

Regarding the resource issue your having(crest). When u roll lv 1 dice you have a fewer chance of rolling crest because over half your dice is a summon. Removing the crest system from this game would make it as if you removed energy from the pokemon tcg, it will make it more kid friendly but remove a deck(or dice pool) building aspect. I would suggest choosing dice based on the face values. For example thousand dragon has crest values in atk, def and movement and is a good staple to just roll without even summoning. Magic and trap crests are only good if your monsters use those abilities so fix your dice pool to remove any unnecessary crest. You wouldnt run grass energy(land or whatever resource) in a deck that couldnt use it, try to prevent dead draws/rolls.
