Socom US Navy Seals changed the game literally. Being able to talk into a mic to send your comrads to cover or hold. It blew my mind. Socom 2 was the pinnacle. I put countless hours into it. We had clans and clan wars. Was the beez kneez! No game has ever grabbed ahold of me like Socom did.

I’m 1,000% in the “MUST reboot” camp. I have played games my entire life, but it wasn’t until I walked across the hallway in my dorm one afternoon, entered my friend’s room and saw him playing the original SOCOM campaign that I realized how badly I had wanted a game like SOCOM since I was a wee lad. There hasn’t really been anything close since Combined Assault (what I consider the last game of the original franchise), but I haven’t stopped hoping that there might be some life left in the original concept!

Socom 2, Screen Name was “ A Blue Pitbull “ Clan Tag (SQ) the Squad. I played for 3 years straight, made so many friends and memories. I still talk about it till this day! I still remember a lot of my clan members. “Stiffy” “Biggs” “Steak Knife” and so many more. I wish we had Facebook back then so I could’ve friended lot of those guys. I lost touch with a lot of them. They need to remake it, keep the maps small and tight like Socom 2 with 8v8. I would go out and buy a PS5 if they released it.

I’ve played every console SOCOM, but I started on SOCOM II and SOCOM Confrontation had the best sound design of all SOCOM games because they used real gun sounds by having them shoot real guns with microphones around them.

I was in my late-30s when SOCOM 2 came out and I was hooked! Joining a clan and having clan wars was amazing and I never could have pictured playing online with people from all over the place after growing up with Atari Pong as my first gaming system. And being able to download those maps that came with the PS Magazine on a CD (Liberation/After Hours/Last Bastion) added some new challenges. I’ve been chasing the “high” SO-CRACK gave me. Nothing since then has measured up even with better graphics or controls. I’ve jumped on to the private servers recently but need to get some practice in before really trying to play it.

Ahhh yes!! The nostalgia is strong with this one! The first SOCOM blew my mind. I can’t think of any other game at the time that allowed you to issue voice commands to your A.I. squad members. SOCOM 2 was even BETTER! I immediately went to my local army surplus store and bought myself a woodland camo boonie hat for full immersion. I must have watched the included “What’s it Like to Be a U.S. NAVY SEAL” a hundred times. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Breakpoint are the only game(s) that comes close to scratching that SOCOM itch.

I was so young that I had nonidea it was a multi-player game and no clue how to hook it up so I never played any socom game online till socom 4. I took my time trying not to get caught and I would have a hard time mentally when one of my guy died. Yes, I always went back and carried him to extraction. I played this game with a lot of the guys served in the Army when it was out. It was a cheap way to keep in touch with each other and back then long distance phone calls were still a little high. I recall playing many nights with my clan and enjoying our time together. As OEF kicked into high gear it was hard to keep playing and stay in touch with everyone but I do miss talking to a lot of the guys. My wife sometimes will ask me what happened to the game as we were just starting to date and she would set everything up for me to play over her house. We would order pizza and she would watch me play with the guys. Miss those days very much and the Socom community was better than anything that I've seen now as the Call of Duty community is so toxic and self-serving. It is all about the individual and how good the one person is not how good his team is. People play a military themed game ( COD ) but want to cos play as pink bunny rabbits because they are looking for attention is just sad to see. To be honest I don't see SOCOM coming back out as much as I would love it. It just would not work with the attention span of a lot of these gamers out nowadays. Telling them they have to wait five or six minutes for the match to end or that they can't speak excessively on the mic because socom only gave you a couple seconds to say what you had to say You couldn't just go on and on.

This game was a huge part of the Manchester United players team spirit during the early to late 2000s.... Rio Ferdinand talks about it on an episode of the vibe with 5 podcast. Fletch,Carrick,Foz,and even Ronaldo and a few other players were playing it all the time in hotels on away days even on the team bus..... Ronaldo even did a celebration pretending to fire a rocket launcher as a tribute to the game...... Never played it myself but thanks SOCOM for helping the lads win loads of trophies during that time 👍 ....

Sony will not be able to re-create or remake any of the Socom titles because it wasn't the gameplay that separated it from past or future shooters, it was the feeling it gave us at the time because it was revolutionary at that time. Think of it like Saturday morning cartoons and how you felt when you were a kid. Playing outside with your friends on awesome summer days and not coming home until dusk. Now that we've had it/experienced it, we try to get that feeling back with the hopes of another Socom but in truth, the "magic" is gone, it's 100% gone and we're craving something to fill that hole left by the feeling the game gave us and not the actual game.

@@JP.nikesox13Yup. It’s a little complicated to explain, but there are private servers still up where you can play. I’m sure if you do a search you’ll be able to find directions on how to do it. I’m using a backwards compatible PS3 to play since I no longer have a PS2. Takes some getting used to SOCOM controls after COD has become the new standard most other shooters copy nowadays.

The only Socom I played was Socom 4. Unlike the popular opinion about that game, I liked Socom 4. Put many hours into the multiplayer. Some developer needs to make a 3rd person military shooter like COD and Battlefield.

They tried to reboot SOCOM in 2010 and the day after it came out Sony got hacked and there was no online gaming for a couple of days or so. The issue is that SOCOM 4 was online only!! Sony gave away Free games to try and compensate for the inconvenience to all PS Plus members. The Mortal Kombat reboot came out the same day. I believe it was 2010

Re-release SOCOM 2 for PS4/5 but don't change a single thing and I would spend all the $$$ to get it. The hours I spent on Fish Hook and Foxhunt I'm not sure I could measure. The pure joy of hearing people get angry losing to our down ranker crew was just butter bar heaven. Won't ever happen. I'm just happy I was there to enjoy it.

I had to install an Ethernet cable all round my parents house and up into my bedroom for Socom US Navy Seals and pay for broadband internet. Wasn’t sure exactly how much I’d enjoy this game but I remember so well that 1st night, playing online all night until the early hours. This became the norm, every Friday and Saturday and through the week. My favourites in order was actually Socom III, Socom 1, Socom II and Socom Confrontation. I’m not going to add Socom 4 as I hated it online as it was too different. I actually enjoyed its single player, 4 was the only one I played the single player. I think it was a good game but should not have been called Socom (4) I wish they would remake / reboot the series. The only other game that’s given me the Socom feels is Ghost Recon Wildlands online

As much as i love socom 2, socom 3 and combine assult for me just the online multiplayer was the most refined and the maps feels like how i imagine a socom map should be socom 2 maps feels alot more like counter strike socom 3 maps was design to be tactical and made use of crawling since the maps are so huge and wide
