So, I went to one of the Christian colleges in Oak Hill’s conference. To give you an idea of how basketball works at some these schools, our best player (and best player in school history) was a fifth year senior/seminary student who was eligible because of Covid and we still won less than half our games. With only about 100 students, basketball players are not recruited at all and if you show up to practice and have even mild ability, you have a chance to play.

Very late reply I know, but I can give a lot more clarity as I started for and played for the team that Jeremiah is referring to. The season in which he is referencing, our team went 16-8 which is the best record the school has ever had. We played against some naia schools, ncaa D3 schools and nccaa D1 and D2 schools. For a program such as the one I played for, it can be difficult to retain students as some schools only offer 2 year degrees forcing schools to reload their team under difficult recruiting policies that the schools have set in place. players also transfer to bigger and better schools after 1 or 2 years playing, which adds to the difficulty of retaining a solid team so it’s not uncommon to see a a team like oak hills or the team I played for have a good team one year and then the next they fall off. Sometimes to fill a roster the coach will let people interested join the team for extra bodies in practice but the year I played players got cut so not everyone is allowed to be on the team.

They get destroyed by NAIA schools. I couldn’t believe when I saw that NDSU was playing them. Scheduling isn’t easy in low major D1 but I can’t believe NDSU didn’t get more flack for this when they have D2/D3/NAIA schools all over the region.

My son went to a very very good HS Cross Country team. He was not varsity and the usually finish in the top 10 in the state. When he was looking at a college that he ultimately went to, I said he would be their 6th best runner at his current state. He didn't believe me until I showed him. I asked him if he wanted to run and he said no. He chose his college for his degree and what the education was, not how good/bad their sports team was. Yes his HS team would have beaten this college team. When my son got there he ran with some dudes that were not on the team and they were faster than him. They were also not on the team. The coach was actually super cool and said he knew that kids that run for him, are students first and runners second. It was refreshing and I do really wish my son would have ran for them. Now for this ridiculous basketball game? The "winning" coach should be ashamed. Dude you pull your starters. You tell your team to practice passing around to burn time. You have dudes play out of position. You have your center shoot 3's from somewhat far out. You openly tell the other team who is going to shoot. In short if you are up by 50 points you call off the dogs. I know if I felt the other team was running up the score, I might have to hurt their best player. BFD if I get kicked off the team. The other team though? They just lost their best player. This is just asking for problems. They can be thankful they played a Christian college.

Oak Hills Christian College is not D2. They're not even NCAA. They are NCCAA, otherwise known as the National Christian College Athletic Association. I know this was strictly a money game, but at what point do you look at this game and contract? You have to wonder, at what point do you say, "No amount of money is worth this bad of a game against this caliber of an opponent."
