Thx Dave for a very informative review 👍🏻 Just for the record a few corrections: - panel type (IPS vs VA vs TN) has nothing to do with tearing; they all can be just as good or just as bad in this regard; - TN: very quick response time, cheap, very bad viewing angles, usually pretty lackluster color reproduction - IPS: most expensive of the 3, best viewing angles, best color reproduction, very quick response times, lower contrast, black glow ( try black screen in a dark room - you'll see what I mean) - VA: best contrast, best blacks ( only OLED beats it in this regard), lackluster viewing angles, bit slower response times, dark details motion smearing, pretty good color reproduction Regarding HDR: To experience real HDR one needs a panel that goes up to 1000nits. That's very bright, bright enough to cause you to squint your eyelids when sun is frame. Better blacks are also needed (IPS is pretty bad in this regard). So while the HDR400 is a thing, it's more of a marketing gimmick. And all things like HDR i and the likes is just something that shouldn't be allowed to be marketed as a feature. While at first glance it might look attractive since the contrast is bumped, it's highly inacurate - it crushes the blacks, destroys the gamma curve etc. I'm not saying it's a bad product (most IPS displays in this price range are great), but I think we, as consumers should hold manufacturers accountable for their BS marketing. @@chicken6000 it really depends. If you have the space and GPU muscle, triples seem like the way to go. That being said if you simrace casually, 1-2h at a time there's something to be said for the immersion provided by VR. Other than that VR just seems impractical enough where I wouldn't recommend it for long endurance online racing. Keep in mind both triples and VR are very GPU heavy. To play in high details you'd need a GPU that can handle 4K 60fps with no issues. Of course you can lower the details for higher fps, but still it'll require to move more pixels around than 4K. When it comes to monitors I've said enough in my previous comment. I'll add that you really want at least 100hz with variable refresh rate that goes down to at least 48fps. That way the image will remain smooth regardless of the framerate (if the framerate is within the monitors refresh sync range that is). Don't bother with TN panels. VA vs IPS is a matter of what bothers you most - dark detail smearing in VA or black glow in IPS. You have to see both for yourself to decide. VA is also cheaper and since with simracing you sit dead center viewing angles are not important imo. If blacks glow and price is not an issue for you get a good IPS then. Else consider a good VA. Tbh you'll probably be happy with either technology if you get yourself quality stuff. God I've written an essay again LOL

I do a bit of endurance racing, recently 12 hrs kyalami, and often longer sessions practicing, like 4 hours or so at a time so I think from this I would like to get triples, although I would love to try VR someday for kicks. I built my PC in January with triples in mind so I have a 30 series graphics card ready to put to better use the it currently is on a single 1080 monitor! I like my deep blacks but also detail in the shadows, (a stickler for me as someone who does a lot of analogue black and white photography) so I will have to try and look at some screens in the real before I make a call on it but thanks again . I have a 22" BenQ monitor that I use for OBS on the gaming PC and the picture quality is very good so expecting the same will be true of this one. I think they label this monitor as a "Sim Racing" monitor because it does not have that control unit on the bottom of the monitor that prevented the monitor from being lowered down close over the wheel base. The older monitors received complaints from Sim Racers about that control tab on the bottom of their older monitors.

If u can squeeze in a 49inch its a no brainer. My g9 on my rig encroaches on my desk but i really appreciate the extra size for the extra awareness. Its also a lot more immersive vs 34inch. Since i got my g9 i race that more than my reverb g2.

While I don't think I'd get the BenQ as it's too expensive (and for just a little bit more you could get a 32:9, and really by only spending a little bit more), this does show me how nice a 21:9 34 inch monitor looks from the seating position, which is very helpful. FOV looks pretty good too! I think I'll get maybe a more budget friendly option when I get around to upgrading my sim rig around next month. Very helpful video!

Hey Dave, nice and honest review. I am currently trying to decide between a 34" 21:9 3440x1440 Ultrawide and a 49" 32:9 5120x1440 Ultrawide. The 49" costs nearly double the money of the 34" and I am wondering if it is worth it ? Does a 49" give you that much more FOV compared to a 34" ? Would by happy to hear back from you. Little note on the triples for flight sim. It's not actually supported properly. According to their roadmap it's not slated until the end of next year. Considering it's a sim and the number of people in the sim world who use triples isn't insignificant, i just see that oversight as another point that show flight sim to be more of an early access titles rather than actually finished. It's a shame it's not labelled as such on steam because there is a lot missing from the actual simulation itself as well as a number of technical features that are missing. Also, with HDR it's never enough to just set it on the monitor. It's more of a processed "baked" HDR. But if you put your screen in HDR mode and then configure windows to display HDR... you'll find it to be a little nicer. Esspecially if the game supports HDR output, which not all do. Additionally, the wash from your cessna blew my clothes away that were drying outside. Thanks, Dave.

FYI, the 49" monitors aren't Ultrawide (21:9) but Super Ultrawide (32:9). There's also some 32:10 options.

A real sim racing monitor would have zero side bezel and some sort of snap-in bracket on the corners that allows the user to lock in their triple screen setup at certain angles. Imagine if someone made that kind of monitor for us sim racers. . . But this video was worth a watch just to see Dave drive some Dirt Rally!

Am i write in thinking that isnt really HDR because on pc you have to turn on HDR but for that work HDR needs to be turned on in windows if it isnt turned on in windows is it not iust fake HDR.

It's only 400nits of peak brightness anyways, Not nearly enough for HDR. 600 minimums is required and even that is crap. Need 1000nits to have decent HDR but those monitor's are well over a Grand. Plus Windows HDR is awful anyways and broke.

Samsung G7 is brilliant, ok 32 inch but the specs are much better plus its much cheaper at 600 Euro. 1ms, 240Mhz, HDR600, 2560x1440.

I have a 21:9 and it's okay. The problem is iracing limits you too much on how much you can push your seat back in the camera settings. In some cars when I set my fov properly I feel like I'm riding on the dash.

My favorite Ultra wide size monitor is the 38 inch from LG. I have a 49 inch G9 from Samsung and I have a 34 inch monitor from Dell and I like the field of view best on the 38 inch monitor.

@@Dranouss972 The 38 inch LG has 3840 X 1600 resolution. It has more vertical screen space. The Samsung is wide from side to side but it is thin from top to bottom. The 38 inch LG is more balanced. I have a better sense of realism on the 38 inch and get better lap times on that monitor.

@@davecamyt I’ve just moved to a gigabyte 34 inch ultrawide from the 32 inch version. It’s not as nice as your benq once as it’s a va panel but it’s transformed my sim racing experience. I haven’t got room for triples or a super ultrawide so this seemed like the best compromise. It’s much more immersive than the 32

£800-£900 for a 34 inch with a 144Hz IPS display is super expensive when you consider I got 3 dell S2721DGFA (27 inch 144hz 1440p IPS) monitors for the same price..... ok if you can't fit triples, or you graphics card can't handle it, then the ultra-wide might be your best option but it does seem pretty damn expensive for what you're getting. Also don't know if it was just me but on all the parts you were talking to the camera there was a super annoying high pitched electrical noise anytime you were talking (like it was only coming through on you gate or something).... good review otherwise though for a guy who "don't do reviews"... you'll need a proper studio soon to fit all your review products!

Sorry but Dave is chatting absolute wham. I own a Samsug G9 49" Ultrawide w/1000R and it is brilliant for Sim Racing. If you're not going to go triples, go 49" UW. Blows the 34" away.
