The Garden State Fondo - My FULL Experience

I got the chance to ride bikes in NJ for 4 days, one of which was riding the Garden State Fondo. This cycling video is the story of my experience at the Garden State Fondo. With 6 timed segments, this cycling fondo is a good mix of FULL GAS and enjoying the ride.
I rode the Estremo, which was 200km or 125 miles. I was able to have a pretty good day on the bike and battled for a spot on the podium. In this cycling story, I walk you through my 4 days in NJ. I did a group ride, a t-shirt ride, a hill climb race, and the fondo.

Dude hes like I nvr been on train... but he makes it seem like hes never seen a train or heard of it that said in his defense I just now finished this video at the end how VC you give the conclusion about garden state people and not knowing the owner but getting that feel and vibe from all.riders, volunteers, people helps etc all were committed all in that in itself is pretty sweet for you to go the selfless route and see the bigger pic that's what it's about man community and all the peeps... this is coming from a loner and solo rider but man these group rides I would prolly enjoy and have fun... Hey VC, I watched this when it came out and loved it. I've been in a real funk lately, had covid in December and struggling with recovery. (Your blog saved my sanity btw!) Just couldn't bring myself to cycle, when I have I've struggled. Anyway I looked back through some videos for inspiration and remembered how amazing this one was. Never done this ride but I did the Highlands Gran Fondo in June, also located in North Jersey. Same format, 100 miles with timed hillclimb segments. Also a fantastic event - I can recommend it for sure 🤙

Haven't watched your videos in a couple months but I'm getting caught up. Awesome video! I grew up in NJ and have been living in London the past 5 years. I rode a GSF before I left. I recall the pain train with all those hills. So cool you met Marty's son at the bike shop. I was saddened to hear Marty passed away. He did so much for cycling and the community. Their Hopewell location is one of our go-to pizza date places in the summer on their outdoor patio. The pizza is some of the best I’ve ever had. And sponsoring a rest stop toward the finish of the Fondo is such a great idea. They were at the finish of a Rapha ride in NJ and it was like rolling into heaven to be greeted by a handmade pizza.

That's my local training race. We often have speed skaters that draft behind the race. So you got recumbents, roller bladers, and road bikes all riding through this park at 25+ mph. I love the look on peoples faces.

Worth the 2-month wait! New Jersey & you, perfect together! (a slogan in tourism ads made in the 80's) I was in an orange vest a few rows in front of you at 10:32 and a few riders behind you at 10:38. I finished way later than you though. The pizza truck was gone when I reached the last rest stop lol, but I did have the pizza at last year's event when it rained the entire day. Among my many non-vegan excuses was missing a turn on a descent around mile 10 while in a group with Floyd Landis, and having to climb back up to get back on course. 2 weeks after this event, also in NJ, there was the Hillier Than Thou century with 13k ft of climbing and the route went through some of the same parts. If you ever have a chance to try that one, that would be great.
