Join us as we travel aboard the first electric train to finally depart Gawler Central Railway Station, at 6:25am on the 12th June 2022, after 18 months of the line's closure to finish the much anticipated electrification project. In this video, we enjoy the line's inaugural day back in service, look back on the history of this much delayed project, speak to many political identities involved in the project, and overall celebrate the introduction of an improved public transport service to the people of Adelaide and South Australia.
The recently completed Gawler Rail Electrification Project is a long awaited public transport infrastructure initiative by the South Australian State Government to progressively electrify the Gawler Railway Line, a 42km suburban railway line from Adelaide to the Northern suburban limit of Gawler. Initially announced in 2008, it has taken 14 years, with alot of instagnation along the way, to finally reach this milestone and to now provide the people North of Adelaide with a wonderful, clean, quiet and reliable public transport service.
