The thing I love about Sanji and Zoro’s interaction is Sanji doesn’t ask “Man who beat you up so bad?” As if implying he’s weak. He asks “Who COULD hurt you like this?” He so astounded there’s an enemy on the battlefield that’s capable of inflicting that level of damage on Zoro and he’s genuinely concerned him. He knows better than anyone how strong Zoro is, that’s why he’s so surprised at how badly he got beaten up.

My theory of why Zoro is so beloved is that it's because he is so unique: He is a character centered around self-sacrifice, which is insanly rare for a character as strong as Zoro in a fantasy (and power fantasy) world like One Piece.

Honestly the breakdown of the bandaging scene in Wano was really good. I don't think I've seen any OP character analysis bring that up for Zoro and Sanji together, at least not to this degree of analysis. Nice job.

Honestly one of my favorite videos of all time. Funny this video comes up for during when I'm on self imposed isolation from friends to get stronger and improve myself for the hope of whenever I get back to them I'm far more reliable than I was previously. Zoro for the longest time was the strawhat who's moments and fights I reread/rewatch the most but I wouldn't have called my favorite until recently even though he has ny upmost respect of the strawhats alongside Jimbei. I've always had a fascination with swords and their history along with old occupations that used them, especially knights so seeing him in action was always a treat. Kuina's part in Zoro's story resonated me greatly as I lost a family member in a sudden accident, had messaged her the day before it happened too. Ashamed to say I haven't visited her grave in quite a long time as the current me is too weak to stand before it. One day I'll be able to visit and tell her how her baby brother who used to cry a lot made something of himself finally.

I too hope that Zoro surpasses Luffy in strength by the end. Purely to fulfill the role of there being a gate to the King that no one may pass. While that heavily implies the value of the King, much like Chess, I like the notion that the King isn't the most deadly piece on the board. Luffy's most notable strength at the end of the series will not be his devil fruit, or his haki, or his MC plot armor, it will most definitely be his ability to gather allies and push them to be leagues better than they ever could be. Zoro being the Straw Hats "unbeatable warrior" is certainly his role. And no role comes without its demerits. Sanji's role allowed him to ask for help. Zoro's allows him to not need for it.

At most they were equals during East blue, right now Luffy’s is stronger than Zoro, and Oda has always portrayed that in the story, as he’s always fighting the second In opponents crew. All of sudden at the end he’s stronger than Luffy? 😂 ..If Oda truly wanted Zoro to be the strongest in the crew that should’ve been made clear for the majority of the story, not at the end of the story…he’s goal is the WS SWORDSMAN..Ask Oda why the guy that just wants to become the Pirate King proclaimed that he’ll get stronger than All of them during Sabaody…

Yeah, I probably should've mentioned that! 😅 To me it's matter of degree, I guess? It was _kinda sorta_ asking for help, but to me it was also kinda just a mutual headnod of "ok, fine, we're stuck together, we'll stop butting heads and mess these guys up". Might just be a case of the rest of Long Ring establishing a lower-stakes vibe, but I just didn't read it as a super serious moment or genuine request for help. THAT SAID, even if you consider that a super serious moment, I think the point still largely stands - Sanji is the one stepping up for Zoro bc no one else _should,_ if that makes sense. 😅

@@Koroto I think it comes back to respect maybe in a different way to kuina and mihawk though. In that scene it isn't Zoro getting his shit rocked and Sanji coming to the rescue when Zoro needs it. They both are going to lose this battle and probably die if they don't work together, Zoro is just the one initiates it. That probably comes from the fact that Zoro is the vice captain, he has to make the hard decisions and acknowledging someone as his equal can be a very hard thing to do. Sanji can't do this because he wants to be useful to the crew, he spent his whole life with Germa completely useless and that gave him a vulnerability a little bit like Usopp except in this case he was able to meet Zeff and learn to become strong even without his innate abilities. I'm rambling though so like Zoro and Sanji respect each other rather than help each other, thats why they are stronger, theres a strong contrast between these two and King and Queen in Wano that exemplifies it perfectly where those two do not respect each other at all.

You can call him Luffy's right hand, Luffy's no 2, first mate, Luffy's fighter, Luffy's adviser or whatever - but whenever a vice-captain is needed to push back against Luffy or smth, Zoro fills that role.
