The Coach is one of the wisest characters ever. Never try to fight someone far more powerful than you. Offer them amends. From the beginning know what they will require and instead of promises show that you will make a valuable ally. That's how Raymond saw the Coach would be a very valuable ally and his debt was later forgiven and forgotten.
@FarronOfHouseFarron2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Everything from the Café scene earlier in the film showed what kind of man Coach was. Only engaged with those lads because he knew he could handle them, but kept to using his words until they brought the fight to him and even the first time they tried, he kept trying to use his words. "Real grown ups use their heads." Everything in that scene was so perfectly executed that it laid the groundwork for these scenes to be so great.

@@FatGouf I still wonder if he ended up owing another 3 favors as a result of the Toddler's ambush, or if they ended up being square because Mickey lived? But we also don't see the next part, so did he escape the Toddlers? They were there for him, the Russians were a happy accident. Then again though, that part might be a fake movie ending from Fletcher, who knows? I just hope Coach eventually got all of them out from under.
@KS-xk2so Жыл бұрын
@@Ellerz03 I'd imagine, based on those young punks knowing who he was in the cafe, The Coach is know around town. I'd assume he's known for being solid, smart, and keeping his word. So Ray knows having the Coach working for him is worth something for sure.

I like that he displayed he had a full understanding of their grievance too. A stupider man would've shown up and promised to give it all back and be square... or maybe tried to pay them. Coach is smart enough to know the real inconvience here isn't the lost product or money, its the fucking hassle, the hit to the rep, etc. So he offers to help in solving those problems till they are square.

It's a good way to apologize. You start out by agreeing that the other guy's right to be pissed off, you explain but not excuse the bad behavior, you take ultimate responsibility for the wrongdoing, you say what you can and can't do right away to fix things, and you ask what you can do to satisfy the person who's been wronged.
