I was able to lift the engine out by hand by myself once it was disconnected - a good running junkyard engine was $150 and took about an hour and a half to be back on the road driving like it never happened it was ultra cheap and lasted a lot of miles after that - I can't call it a terrible vehicle, but it was hilarious to drive

@@martybowen1 Like I was saying. The D15B in my 1991 Civic station wagon was rated for 90hp at the crank when new. FWD Hondas generally lose about 30hp through the transmission, so let's say it was putting out about 60hp at the wheels. 30 years later, nearly 300,000 miles on the odometer, and valve seals that leak so bad the car burns a quart of oil a week, and I would wager the car is putting around 48-52 down right now at the wheels. The Civic wagon also weighs in the 2400+ pound range. So yeah, I highly doubt it's as bad as you and Doug are saying as my car weighs more, has less power, and it's not that bad to drive in the City.

I inherited a white '95 Metro base model hatch from my parents when I got my driver's license. Mine came with nothing: no A/C, no passenger side mirror, no radio, but I loved it. My original radio was a boombox, before I put a full stereo (and subwoofers in it) - which turned it into a riding night club. Also added remote door locks - the advantage to nothing in the door, was aftermarket part installation was super easy - and a push-button hatch release on the dash. Other than A/C, by the time I was done with it there wasn't really anything I thought it lacked. It was super cheap and easy to maintain compared to modern cars. Back in the late '90s when gas was less than a dollar, I could fill it up for like $5, which was a great money making scheme when everyone you know is willing to give you a couple bucks for a ride and only needed to get gas every couple of weeks. I can honestly say I once put 505 miles on a tank, and it then cost me like $15 to fill up, which is non-hybrid impossible nowadays. I also had a good time driving it. It was a lot of fun in the snow since it weighed almost nothing, it was basically impossible to get stuck and easy to just drift around corners. While it may not have been very fast to 60, I always found it was pretty quick to 25-30 if you knew how to shift it, but the NJSP officer that ticketed me for doing more than 80 on the turnpike can vouch for its top speed. My parents swapped me cars and sold it almost 20 years ago, and I still miss The Egg a little bit to this day.

If you need to get from A to B, without rushing or banging a hole on your wallet on fuel, this is your perfect choice. If you're stuck in traffic all the time and aren't going anywhere fast, this could be ideal for commuting.

If you dont mind having to deal with a manual transmission in traffic, certainly. A Prius would be a fairly economical, and more comfortable option though for dealing with traffic. Of course, I would imagine this would be easier and cheaper to maintain, if you're mechanically inclined.

@@joemann7971 "If you dont mind having to deal with a manual transmission in traffic, certainly." Everyone always says this. For me, the opposite is true. I'd MUCH rather be using a manual in traffic than an automatic. The Metro, with a few mods, can easily do 55 MPG on the highway, and not that much worse in city driving. It's way easier and cheaper to fix than a Prius. The biggest downside to the Metro is that it's not nearly as nice build quality, it feels cheap and somewhat old, but it's also a lot more fun to drive, even if it is a bit slower. There are aftermarket parts available for the Metro, too. So they can be fun to mess around with.
@cinnamonnoir24873 жыл бұрын
The best thing about the Geo Metro is that you can actually _lift it up_ in heavy traffic and sprint with it by the side of the road until the traffic thins out. Just make sure you don't do this when it's windy, or you could be looking at an insurance situation.

Two years ago I saw a car nearly identical to this for sale, it was the same color and similar equipment, except it was branded as a Chevy Sprint (Canadian rebadge) and it had the 3 speed auto. I was on the fence about buying it, I watched this video and immediately went out to buy it. I love my little blue deathtrap, it's a piece of garbage, it's a horrible car, the convertible top leaks like a sieve, it had mice in it at one point and it's got more bondo than steel in many places but I love it all the same. It turns more heads than any car I've had, it's great on gas and has never left me stranded... Doug, on the off chance you see this, thank you for making this video and helping me find one of the best cars I've ever owned!
