As a history buff, I gotta give this show major props for having the subtlest reference to Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass in the Hanukah Special. It's brief, but that's the point, because we see Libby's great-grandparents forced to flee what is clearly a Jewish ghetto in Nazi Germany. We see the horror on their faces as they see people running in fear right before a brick breaks their window and then it cuts to them having successfully immigrated to America while pregnant, they raise their son who then grows up to raise a family and so on. I don't know about you, but I don't think a show like this has ever alluded to such a dark bit of history, especially on Disney.

I LOVE The Ghost and Molly McGee! This was my favorite Disney show of current years it's just so fun and sweet and joyful to watch, but I do have to the show did lack off a little Season 2, as they were juggling two different overarching plots, one involving an family of Ghost hunters moving across the street and Molly ended up falling fir the son which risk the chance of him discovering about Scratch and also Jinx plotting to take over the Ghost World as revenge for Scratch destroying the original Chairman. Still all around I still enjoy it for what it was and I'm disappointed that we didn't get a Third Season, but in all honesty what were they gonna do for a third season when they basically (for the most part) wrap everything up? Scratch is gone, he's human again, he's now living his life what were they gonna do without him? Also Andrea got the very short end of the stick on the second Season, sure she was still apart of the show and got like 2 or 3 Episodes involving her but it felt like she reduced to a side character and not involved in the the season arc unlike Ollie or Libby has, she never even learned about Scratch like Libby and Ollie and despite being friends with Molly she wasn't seeing hanging out with her that much it just fell like they left her arc unfinished.
@jstarwars36027 күн бұрын
@@deshawnedwards6412 The final episode was only included because of the cancellation. Had the show gotten a proper third season, we would’ve seen the mystery play out gradually over several episodes. Yeah, Bill and Bob always knew how they wanted the show to end, but they had actually been given an early greenlight to begin writing Season 3 around the time the show had started airing. Unfortunately, this was the first Disney TVA show where its’ Disney+ performance was what would determine its fate as opposed to the cable ratings, and the Disney+ team didn’t do any marketing whatsoever for it. So by summer of 2022, they had been told they weren’t getting a third season. Bill and Bob pulled a Hail Mary and asked if they could have one more episode to wrap things up, and they got it. But of course, that was around the time Bob Chapek got fired and Bob Iger returned, and the possibility of a third season was back on the table for a little while dependent on how Season 2 did. The show did well, but I guess not well enough to justify greenlighting a third season when the show already had a ready-made finale. But what really makes me mad is that Disney didn’t give the show any kind of sendoff, and nobody knew for sure that the show was over until the episode actually aired.

There a few things I'd like to add..... 1) This show subverted several tropes that are common in "kid is friends with magical being" shows (i.e. Scratch's existence is not kept secret from the rest of the human cast, Molly's rival actually helps her and her family out of a tight spot on her own, The encounter with the Chairman is at the end of Season 1 instead of being saved for the grand finale, character development actually sticks instead of being dropped like a hot potato, etc.) 2) Molly's brother is voiced by Amethyst from Steven Universe 3) Due to it ending at Season 2, there's a few things that never got a chance to shine (one being that big corporation that forces Andrea's parents out of business, that could've been more for her character arc. Also, she never directly met Scratch)
@ztslovebird26 күн бұрын
Couple of things: 1) Scratch wasn’t falling behind on his Scares prior to Molly showing up. He just wasn’t invited to party with the Ghost Council after his performance review, which is why they kicked him out. 2) Scratch cursed himself by accident.

There are multiple times in the show where an animal un-alives on screen and you see its ghost. With the secondary cast consisting of senior citizens, there is always that option in the back of your mind. The show takes a real look at end of life life, and the affects it has on younger family members and friends. Plus economic struggles, and less than stellar absence parents of a divorce. Its dark and surprised Doug doses't like it more. Yet through it all Molly is a literal ray of sunshine and happiness and how they defeat the "bad" ghosts in season one finally is sooooo good. Such payoff.

As much as I love Molly's optimism, I do love the fact that the show doesn't always frame her simply being right and Scratch being wrong. It would get old real fast if they did it that way. We do see instances of her being in the wrong even though she clearly meant well like in the episode of Libby's Bat Mitzvah or the Snow Day episode, and to her credit she does make things right when she sees the error of her ways. And as someone who has a high-functioning form of autism, it was nice to see June Chen also being high-functioning autistic without coming across as a caricature like Sheldon Cooper of the "Good Doctor". Even though she doesn't do too much, she feels like she was written as a character first. Sometimes less is more and sometimes simplicity is best, two mantras this show does well.
@jodgee237426 күн бұрын
The series finale was originally written as the end of a third season that didn't get produced. If Disney didn't cut the show short, then there would've been an episode explaining that ghosts only exist until they complete their unfinished business from the mortal world, and that after their business is finished, they disappear. This makes the ending even sadder!

I think what I love most about this show is that, despite it being more episodic, it doesn't have a status quo they need to reset to at the end of the episodes. Characters will grow, change, and become the best versions of themselves just like real people would. When you look at who they are at the start of Season 2 versus the start of Season 1, there's a stark difference and I think that's rare for episodic shows. Plus there's a lot of topics in this show that are great for kids to hear. Things like puberty, dealing with perfectionism, prejudice that your parents had being passed onto you, or even the struggle of having an absent parent. There are a lot of things in this show that a lot of people can relate to, and I think that's great. Though I will acknowledge it's not for everyone. It definitely made me laugh a lot, and I loved the songs and characters, but it's not going to click for everyone. The fact Doug enjoyed it is a win in my book, I'm not expecting him to fall in love with it like I did. But I'm glad we can agree than they had a phenomenal finale that didn't hold back at all. If you analyze enough there's a lot of foreshadowing to the finale, so a lot of fans (myself included) knew the general idea of what they were gonna delve into. But I was not prepared for the extent of what they were going to do with it. If you have any interest in it, I definitely recommend giving it a watch.

Honestly, didn't expect to get into this series. But with a catchy theme song (which is kinda rare nowadays), some funny writing, a nice color palette, and a sweet ending, think this is one that most people would enjoy. Maybe not love, but have fun with.

Strangely enough, even though it took up a spot on the Disney TVA roster next to stuff like Amphibia and Owl House, i actually think TGAMM was my favorite cartoon from the era. The characters are great, the humor is very snappy and witty, and Molly/Scratch have the funniest and cutest dynamic I’ve ever seen between main characters. Their interactions are seriously just golden. We REALLY deserved that season 3, this show was an absolute gem.

What's funny is the ship between Molly and her best friend is way more popular than the ship between Molly and the guy because, well, he's the generic love interest and people are just way more interested in the best friend

What a charming and fun show this was. But I admit, kinda bungling the ending message about getting more out of life when you're alive when there is the potential to do all sorts of cool stuff you couldn't do in life AND that there is an assured life after death.

Woof: I stopped the review and watched the last scene on YT - I immediately had tears on my face. Those little things are what oldschool Disney magic is made of.

he song was really good,and I did not expect any of what was happening, especially in "molly vs the ghost world". Scratch's character development has been amazing to see over the course of the show, THE FINALE WAS SO SAD I CRIED :(

Actually this show appealed to older audiences too. There's a damn good reason a lot of fans identify with Scratch to an extent (especially considering the big reveal in the final episode.) and it's something that older audiences might be more aware of compared to younger ones.

Originally, the series was supposed to end with the penultimate episode but the creators asked for one more episode so that they could give Scratch's story a proper conclusion. As much of a bummer as it is that we never got a proper third seasons, scripts/outlines for planned episodes are online somewhere, at least they got to tell the most important story of all.

This is definitely my favorite Disney Channel show of all time. And I wasn’t expecting a lot when getting into the show. But after some time, I discovered something truly special with this show. It was criminal that Disney cut this show short, because this show was brimming with potential. At the very least, it ended the way the creators intended. Which sadly is becoming a rarity in today’s age

I agree that the ending was masterfully done. The only criticism I have about it is that it was kind of abrupt at the end of season two. Like I said, another comments, they meant to have a season three, and they would have built up the ending even more. But it wasn’t dragging the numbers that Disney wanted on Disney+, so the Kabash was put on that. They were allowed one final episode to cap things off, and for what they had, they made the most of it.

"...She bothers me." That plus Scratch and Grandma Nin's interactions pretty much solidified I was gonna watch the rest. I won't lie, I cried at the end. The ending didn't feel forced for the sake of being deep, it was legit good and a great message.
@icecreamhero237527 күн бұрын
1:18 What? That's not what happened. Scratch tried to curse Molly and it backfired. He cursed her so that he would be whereever she is and Molly decided that they were best friends now.

For DisneyCember, you should do The Devil and Max Devlin. That was an actual Disney film from 1981 starring Bill Cosby as Barney Satin opposite Elliott Gould as Max Devlin.

Yeah, this ending might actually be one of my favorites from modern (post 2010) cartoons. I love Gravity Falls as much as the next fan, but even they backpedaled on their saddest ending. This was one of the best-paced, most mature endings I've seen to an animated series in quite a while.
@Brett-uq4tz27 күн бұрын
It didn't really backpedal on its ending, it's actually a thing in real life that people with amnesia can sometimes not always but just sometimes can recover their memories by being reminded of specific things.

The Ghost and Molly McGee was an animated series that was truly ahead of its time on Disney Channel. In addition to Disney Channel and Disney XD, it also premiered on Disney+ when I was 39 years old. In this story, a girl and her ghost go on some supernatural adventures, similar to The Owl House and Phineas and Ferb.

Finally :D my favorite show :D it was the first show that manage to dethrone my previous favorite show to place number 2 .... that was ironically enough the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.... which is funny since everything Mandy was, Molly isn't

I have never watched much of this show, but it's one of those that let you think about how much great stuff is there for kids. So many people always go "oohh back in my times we had that show or that other show, kids nowadays don't get it!" but really it's just bias and if you stop and look you indeed find great shows even today. Now, for my playlist of all DisneyCember reviews in chronological order, this series begun on October 1. 2021, so it goes inbetween Shang-Chi (September 3, 2021) and Ron's Gone Wrong (October 22, 2021)
