I'm pretty sure the implication of the Sumo Slammers episode is that Upgrade, through the lightning bolt, somehow upgraded the game to the point of it being a full-on virtual reality, complete with seemingly sapient AI that can respond to human interaction. @@zainebamfo2077 I think that's just the writers trying to deal with the Thomas Swift problem, which is a hurdle you have to overcome in children's media (namesake is Thomas A. Swift, a fictional boy genius and classic children's book protagonist) where you have to juggle between having a character that acts like target audience and never really grows, or just becomes a rational, emotionally mature adult and risk loosing the relatability to the target audience. It's why Ben goes from being a considerate and kind young man to a total unlikable douchebag and switches back and forth. They did have a good resolution, but Ben and Kia didn't. Ken just showed up and said that's who he had to marry or else the future would be fucked. The better option would've been to just have Ben stop being such an asshole to Julie.

Him ending up with another species would fuck up the time line and Kenny, as well as kind of ruin the geocentrism of the show. And no, Ben isn't half alien. He's 100% human. Changing that would again, ruin the geocentrism. Gwen has some alien DNA, but it wasn't passed down to Ben's father or Ben, nor Kenny or Gwendolyn (Ben's 2 kids.)
