Read some of the comments below and I am well versed in the movie Casino, but I was driven to hear my past with the woman I spent 49 years with and she walked away leaving me mortally wounded and I will be brought to the grave as a direct result of this action, but I will in no way blame her for my broken heart, that is only a result of myself loving her. I do hold her 100% accountable for her actions of deceit and lies that will forever be inexcusable but perhaps one day forgivable. But for now, my heart reeks and reels from the stench of a love so large that its void has effected all that is before me. The message is not she is a monster and evil, quite the contrary, she is the most lovest person I have ever known. I love the person and hate the acts. This is my dilemma.

Great song. Does anyone know the story behind the lyrics? In the early ’80’s Steve Propes' had a Sunday morning program on KLON, Long Beach, called “We Don't Play No Jan And Dean.” He said there is a story behind "The Glory of Love" and he would go into details on a future show. I was very curious but unfortunately I did not listen every week and I never heard him mention it again.
@dennisgallagher10 жыл бұрын
Do you know if he was talking about this version or about the original lyrics? The original was by a songwriter named Billy Hill (also wrote under the name George Brown) who is in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He wrote mostly Western songs but also wrote "In the Chapel in the Moonlight." He had a serious drinking problem and died at the age of 42. One story about him is that he got married on the spur of the moment when he saw his future wife sitting in a hotel lobby and he walked up to her and proposed. She eventually accepted. I would really like to hear the story you are talking about if you find out what it is.
@RichZFishes6 жыл бұрын
No idea if it's the one your're speaking of, but one story about this record, is that Eddie Mesner of Aladdin conceived the idea of combining Larry Darnell's "I'll Get Along Somehow" as a recitation over "Glory of Love", and threw together a vocal group to do it, much in the manner that the Shields were thrown together by George Motola to cover You Cheated. Mesner started with Whitefield Bryant, who recruited Eddie Lewis, Vernon Garrett and Eddie Williams & Buster Williams. Lewis was the lead and did the recitation. They also used recitations on later recordngs, but they didn't work like the first one, and it became kind of a gimmick.

The narrative was originally done by Ruth Brown in 1952 under the song title, "Three Letters" (Atlantic Records).
