14:45 Questioning whether knee valgus is actually a bad thing or just a consequence of using the quads. Very interesting stuff.
@dojanglesclimb5 жыл бұрын
That's what I've heard Olympic weightlifting coaches say. They don't consider it a bad thing.
@s.c.y.w55665 жыл бұрын
With Stefi being in that position she's resting with the hips in an external rotated position. The medial part of the back of the knee is off the floor, so when she contracts the quads and pushes the back of the knee into the floor, her whole leg internal rotates in order to get the back of knee closer to the floor. Seems weird as the knee joint rotates outwards to lockout but my guess is thats why. When we're squatting functional stability still needs to come from the hips and an arch needs to be maintained at the foot. So I would say hip stability needs to be a primary consideration if knee values occurs during squats. Still it's an interesting theory worth exploring and has made me question three years of university education haha!
@ratchat1232 жыл бұрын
@@s.c.y.w5566 easier explanation is a tight pyriformis acting. That muscle internally rotates and adducts at the hips, when hips are flexed beyond 90 deg but externally rotates and abducts at lower angles of flexion. Coming out of the bottom that muscle activates especially if tight and causes some internal rotation plus adduction which looks like valgus. In the rest of the movement the same muscle and glute max act as external rotators plus abductors and correct that internal rotation/ valgus. To correct stretch and strengthen the glutes and pyriformis plus the other smaller external rotators. Though I think it doesn't matter if there is no hip pain or back pain etc.

hip thrusts would be such a great exercise if it wasnt a pain to do. u cant even do prog. overload without eventually being in pain. when heavy, your pubic area will be in so much pain u cant even lift even it with pads. it also hurts your upper back when you push off the bench. then setting up in a traditional gym is so tough. first of all u need so much space (a bench with the appropriate height, counter weight so the bench doesnt move or a wall, the barbell + plates) id like to say i didnt care about the stigma but dudes would non stop look at guys and girls doing it.. i always felt creeped out. really wish i can have access to that machine on 11:25 :( any other glute exercise (aside from squats) that u recommend steph? really appreciate it

Pull throughs? They still look kind of suspect but they are way easier to set up.

@hundhundkatt5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like... excuses tbh? No worries I've been there too! Get a good thick foam pad from ebay or aliexpress and use that, I hip thrust a lot of weight (i'm a woman) and it really is not bad at all. As for setup, it's honestly not that much more work than setting up RDL, just prop the bench against whatever mounted rack or equipment you can find at the gym. Or use the smith machine if the safeties are low enough. I'm obv not Stefi or Bret but there are very few (can't think of any) exercises that load the glutes as heavy, intensely and in the appropriate plane than the hip thrust.

maybe the regular arthrokinematics of terminal knee extension makes the feet turn in 5-15 degrees during open chain movements
@dalehall-bowden10835 жыл бұрын
There is a change in rotation at the knee when moving from flexion to extension. Only small but it varies person to person. If you’re interested do a search for papers looking at ‘whiteside line’. It’s an anatomical landmark orthopaedic surgeons use to account for this when deciding what bone to respect during a total knee operation.
