Litterally heading out to buy a Go Fish tomorrow. I saw one that was reduced by $400 next to the Seaside that was full price. I was leaning towards the Seaside more initially but the difference in price made me go to the Go Fish. I hope I'm making the right choice! I'm a Novice surfer and want to take my surfing to the next step, and I've been watching your videos for awhile now, I wanted to say thanks for helping!

Just wanted to stop by and say thanks. I have improved tremendously. Although I have one problem. When ever I go for a bottom turn on a bigger backside wave maybe 5 ft, I can’t dig my rail and I end up falling backwards. I am still turning my body I just can’t seem to get it. I am around 130 lbs with a wet 4/3 wetsuit and I am 5’8 and I am 15. The board I’m riding is a 5’7 / 19 3/8 x 2 1/2 29.8 liters of volume. Have a good day

Always found backhand bottom turns easier with narrower boards and less volume (more peformancy) try using a board with less volume and width. 29 liters is a bit much for 130lbs.

I'm 65, riding a 7'6 MCoy Nugget & your enthusiastic, comprehensive comparison has me thinking that at 88Kg, I could maybe ride the 6'1 version of this board! I thought all the publicity & promotion this board has enjoyed was mainly marketing hype/ new, latest greatest toy but your channel has always been honest and the reviews intelligent but simple & easy to understand, so I'm thinking the Seaside really is something special. Perhaps you could borrow & review one of the larger models as a comparison. :)

Love Ryan, love Kales, love How to Rip and been following the channel for a while. In all honesty, the whole shopify dropship gig selling tshirts and caps "made in china" in order to make a quick buck and disregarding its impact on the environment really does not fit the mentally of the channel, or surfing in general. I totally get that you want to make this channel (or content creation) your life and your job but I would suggest to go another route. Plus, the design is subpar and not really thought out, no cool graphics, reference to anything surfing related...Just "I

Love the review! One question, I notice your go fish has more volume than seaside. Do you feel that extra volume effects on your turn for you go fish? Do you think it’s too much? I’m thinking about to get a go fish, and my current surfboard is a 5’5 custom Haydenshape Hypto- 28 L and I also have a Haydenshape Lovebuzz- 28.5 L. I had couple surfboards that are around 30-31 L and I think it’s too big for me. I don’t know if I should go for a 5’5 go fish-29.2L or a custom 5’4 - 28.3L. Thank you
@HowtoRip4 жыл бұрын
Hey Darren, I don't think you can order custom Firewires? The extra volume in the go fish was not problem at all
@darrenyamato4 жыл бұрын
@@HowtoRip Thank you for answering me! So you think the 1-liter difference between go fish and seaside does not affect paddling and turning at all? I just went to a surf shop and I checked the 5'3" seaside it looks the right dim for me but I wanna get the go fish first since I wanna work on my rail game. So it sounds like a 5'5" go fish is better than a 5'3" go fish
@euricoleitao8822 ай бұрын
Bro, a small fish can never be surfed the way you would surf a swallow or a performance. Which means this type of comparison it’s in no way realistic. Fishes are not meant to be reaped like performance boards, fishes are meant to go fast and flow with the wave. If you really try hard or have the skills you will eventually make it happen but they are not meant for it. So in the end, if you’re the kind of person that likes manoeuvres definitely don’t go for the GoF, if you like flow than it’s the perfect thing 🙌🏼 But great video!! You’re a great surfer congrats!! 🙌🏼❤️🔥

Great comparison, thanks for the video. The Seaside is super fun (riding the 5'8"), but I find with the Machado split keels it has almost too much drive for me. I was pleasantly surprised how well the board goes with a set of standard large quads (e.g. Shapers Stealth L) and I think it gives the board a bit more versatility in 3+ ft waves and feels a little less stiff under the rear foot. Could be my bad technique, though! Give it a go.

Thanks for the review Ryan. Have you ever tried a longer seaside? I ask because I am a similar height and weight as you and with my current skill level I would normally be tempted by a 5'6" 32.7L or 5'5" 31.5L. The thing I wonder is whether to get a seaside that length or wait till I improve my skills to get a shorter one. I just don't want to get a board that is larger than what it is intended for my height/weight making it easier to catch a wave (yes) but sluggish since its too wide once I am standing.

Can you please do a review of the DHD interceptor?
@paulbaker76754 жыл бұрын
You need to put T1's in the go fish if you're gonna hack it around like a shortboard. Keel fins are for cruising. This is why the board is feeling tracky.

Will give this a try!

Great video and thanks for showing realistic waves. I've ridden both and agree completely. The GoFish is track-y. Would you say these same comments would apply to twinnies vs quad fishes in general? I've never ridden a traditional twin fin fish.
@HowtoRip4 жыл бұрын
Good question. The Go Fish is the only twinnie that I have ridden, so tough for me so say...A friend of mine who has ridden them alot thinks they can be track-y
@brantrichardson19494 жыл бұрын
No, twin fins are the loosest of all fin configurations. If you use a fin with a really long base (keel fin) that will make the board track more. The fin he has on the board looks proper to me but he could loosen it up with something like an MR fin. The outline of the Go Fish is a lot straighter through the tail which will make it faster going straight down the line but harder to turn while upright. The Go Fish also has less rocker which will also make it faster going straight down the line but harder to turn when you put it on rail. This is noticeable at the start of the video when How To Rip tries to muscle the board through turns that it doesn't have the rocker for.
@brantrichardson19494 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention... The wider a board is the harder it is to put on rail for a turn. Also the thicker the rail is the harder it is to sink the rail for a rail turn. So if you put all that together for your typical retro fish, they are very wide with a wide tail, have thick rails, have low rocker, have a very straight outline and have keel fins which makes for a very fast but tracky ride. So there are a lot of attributes there that make a retrofish track but the fact that it is a twin fin is not one of them.

@taranmehta63564 жыл бұрын
Hey Ryan. I’m 15 years old. Weigh about 73 kilos and am 5’8. I have been riding a 6’6 softie and wanting something better so I can improve my turns. Any recommendations I was thinking the seaside.
@HowtoRip4 жыл бұрын
Hey Taran, transitioning from your foamie to something more high performance is always a tricky one as there are many options. I think the Seaside is great but if you went that way you would have to order something with higher volume, and down the track as you get better, you will want to drop that volume. So it can be an expensive process if you bought it brand new. If you could find a second hand one around 5'6 that could be good, then to upgrade later it hasn't cost you as much. If you can find something similar from another shaper that could work also, maybe keep the Seaside in mind for later if you can't find the right second hand board now...That's just my opinion
@SkipperSurfReview4 жыл бұрын
Nice review. I have both of them. Love it! GoFish is skatey and fun. I suggest to try the Seaside & Beyond to even have more fun lol.. it does feel like a regular seaside and you can surf it from 1-6 ft at ease🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

It took time for me to figure out the GoFish. You can't ride it like a thruster. It's not a grovel board either. It likes good surf. I surfed it up to solid 6 foot and it works beautifully. Also I tried the Al Merrick Keels (AMK) and Rob Macado Keels. Hated them both. I prefer T1 in Futures. Loose. Lively yet gives enough drive. I think the Seaside will be better for most people.

Hi Guys, appreciate the channel. I am an intermediate to advanced surfer surfing in CA at 5'9 165 lbs. Been riding a 6'10 Creative Army Huevo for a the past 5 months from my traditional short board which I have been surfing for many years. Looking for a fish to add to the quiver and stuck between buying Gofish and Seaside to progress my surfing with a bit more maneuverability while also being able to get into waves earlier. Do you see the Gofish having a large advantage to catching waves and being able to get up on entry compared to the Seaside? I would be willing to give up some of the performance the Seaside has over the Gofish if the Gofish would help increase my wave count. Want to know if you think the trade off would be worth it. Looks like I would be going with maybe 5'9 for ether board. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks!
@HowtoRip3 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, I would go the seaside. I think the Helium construction makes the board sit on the surface more than the LFT (go fish) construction. So if you surfed both boards with the same volume, I think the seaside would feel slightly more buoyant, for paddling and also once you are up and riding...Hope this helps!

What wave size do you think those boards can handle?
@HowtoRip4 жыл бұрын
I haven't surfed mine in anything over the 3-4ft range, so I'm not too sure. I think it depends on how you want to surf it as well. Rob Machado surfed his at 4-6ft
@benjaminm52324 жыл бұрын
Max 6ft. I rode my 5'6 in some 4-6ft hurricane swell a few weeks ago and I was just going too fast on the bigger waves. It was fun as hell but it was challenging to control my turns with all that speed. Unless it is high tide, I would keep it to 5ft and under.

It seems like I left the time stamp out on my original comment 😂 I was talking about the specific wave at 1:38 which you caught really early. Even though I am on a high volume board, (38 liters and I'm only 125 pounds) I would have trouble catching that wave as it wasn't about to break. It just blows my mind that you were able to catch that wave on a 26 liter board weighing around 60 pounds more than me.
