With Xbox acquiring Activision, this is perhaps the only avenue that can bring us back to what I call "The Golden Era of Activision." A time where the publisher was not the ridiculous madhouse it is today, but one that was responsible for pioneering meaningful IP. I know the title is a bit eye-popping given recent news, but keep in mind we're talking the early 2000s. Let me show you what I mean.

Radical Entertainment made PROTOTYPE, which also made one of my favorite super hero games....The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Now that Activision is under Microsoft I hope they could do a deal with MARVEL and give us The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction 2. The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was a high rated game back then sitting at a 8.9 in some gaming publications back then. The game was so much fun and The Hulk had so much power and they made him perfect representing his strength and overall sheer power. Radical Entertainment should do another Hulk game. those guys got it right. Cause after that all the other Hulk games sucked period. Please make it happen give us another Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.

For us old gamers, the "best" of Activision, if you can call it that, is in the past. More so than fun games, they were always a company like EA that got big not so much through quality achievement, but through acquiring other, better, but smaller developers. Turning them into a publishing power house. This goes all the way back to the dawn of video games. Games are a business, but as a consumer, my impression of them as a company isn't very high. They never used, imho, what they acquired to build greatness. Just shoving mediocrity down peoples' throats and relying on new customers to fill the place of the old ones they lost along the way.

Love your content man! One thing I wanted to point out that I disagree with is that I think a lot of people miss the point of some of the stuff in Spiderman 3 that they think isn't supposed to be cringy. Sam Raimi as a director is known for his over the top weird sequences and I think at least as far as the Emo scenes in Spiderman 3 that a lot of people rip on, I think the point is missed that they are indeed supposed to be awkward, and funny and show the audience how cringy and full of himself Peter got with the symbiote. Another example is no one bats an eye at the odd raindrops are falling on my head sequence in Spiderman 2, I think it was that level of weirdness Raimi was going for in Spidey 3 with some of the cringy stuff.

@@toonytomas762 This. Same thing happened with Transformers war for/fall of cybertron. And I hate it so much. I get handing it off to different publishers and money changing hands, but I don’t understand why the game needs to get delisted or how that’s even legal (before we talk about gaming monopolies, how about we talk about companies legit making it impossible to buy art that was already made after the rights go to someone else?). This is like telling me I can never buy X book again, because Y company sold the rights to Z character. Its insane. In other mediums the government understands the need to preserve art and human creativity for future generations. In gaming and the digital space its become, “lolol, screw you. We have money.”

When you have a company that at one time published games that had variety, X-men, shriek, Spider-Man, all those you listed I won’t list again, and used their studios strengths you had success of one kind. When they took every single one of those studios and said you’re ALL doing CoD now, you have a major problem. This isn’t including Blizzard of course. But yeah, they lost the will to live and allow any type of creative freedom. I am not sure, and this can be a full conversation elsewhere, how anyone could think putting all your eggs into one basket can be tenable given the ever shifting landscape of gaming and gamers tastes. CoD can be fun but for many it isn’t fun all year, everyday, every year. Not sure I could express exactly what I was full thinking here typing on the mobile but hopefully you’ll get my general thoughts here. 😀

For me, the golden era of Activision was in the 90s up until the mid 360 era. Tenchu, Vigilante 8 1&2, THPS 1 - Underground, Mech Warrior, Battlezone, Heavy Gear, Dark Reign, Pitfall, Interstate 1&2, Guitar hero and the list goes on. I think their golden era ended the moment they started pumping out countless CoD games instead of continuing their already great and diverse franchises. As for Blizzard, there's not a whole lot so say other then they were awesome from the moment they formed up until the release of StarCraft 2. After that, I think they focused too much on WoW and online only games as "services" and everyone knows the rest of the story. I really hope Phil's intention is to not only bring back the glory days of both companies, but to also fix the problems there and allow the staff to work in a much safer and inclusive environment. All eyes are on Xbox now and we will all know soon enough.

Activision used to have the Ghostbuster franchise, I think. They may still have them. You know, I really hope they do something awesome with it. It's been a mostly missed opportunity forever. What a cool game that could be. They could follow a storyline and use existing characters, or it could be completely "independent". You're a Ghostbusters franchise owner in another major city that isn't New York City. You've got to research and upgrade technology, pay rent, maintain your vehicle, build a team. This would be super cool in LA or Chicago or Boston. I could write a treatment for this thing, but you get the idea. How cool would that be?!
