How can you learn to swing a golf club without having to think about too many things?
I woke up to this in my inbox:
"That was the most amazing golf lesson - exactly what I needed. You mention all the time that we should keep the golf swing simple but I never really believed it fully...you have no idea the impact this golf lesson has had on my game. I'm so grateful for you and your time!!"
Whoa! how nice is that...
I absolutely love helping golfers find their golf swings. Getting feedback that they are finding the game so much easier and having much more fun on the golf course is why I do what I do. You see over the years the golf swing has been chopped up and dissected into so many pieces it can sometime feel like it will take forever to learn.
But don't believe that. This is the old school way.
The new school way is to learn your swing. We are all built differently, different shapes and sizes, different levels of strength and flexibility. Should we all swing it the same way?
Take a look at the the hottest golfers in the world right now. Dustin Johnson, Mathew Wolff, Victor Hofland. They have chosen to adopt the new school way. They have chosen to find a golf swing that works for them rather than fit into a model that someone has designed.
In this weeks golf lesson I give you an amazing golf drill that will truly help you strike the golf ball so much better, hit driver straight...but more importantly it won't require you to remember a check list of to do's before every shot. If you have questions like How do I hit a golf ball with an Iron? How can I learn to strike my irons pure every time? How do I stop hitting the ground behind the golf ball? How to hit driver straight?
PRACTICE PLAN
I you like the golf lesson with my compliments you can download the PDF lesson summary and step by step practice plan. Great to take to your next driving range session: Download it for free here: ⛳️ www.dannymaude...

ABOUT DANNY

Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On KZbin and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumbleI’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

I cannot tell you how much more enjoyable playing golf is again and its thanks to you. It was only 10 years ago and my name was on the senior club championship trophy. 6 hcp . 10 years later CDH 17 game it seemed had gone and the harder i tried the worse I got. Then the dreaded shanks. I was resigned to just tapping around! I was looking to find a simple thought to fix the the dreaded"s I found two videos of yours and it changed my game dramatically. i gave up trying to control the ball. All of a sudden long 4's were in reach again and I didnt care cause my short game was back because your simple drills. The simplicity of your approach combined with your excellent communication skills have got me hungry to play well again. I dropped 4 strokes off my handicap in a week and did that in round with three doubles. My target is to shoot my age - Par golf- rather than disappear into the sunset!! Thanks, Forever grateful!

This is absolutely spot on...I wish I'd seen it 11 months ago when I started golf! Like most newbies I was all - arms straight, knee bent, hips turns, push through....and I was so inconsistent, I could barely hit the ball. The moment I actually just tried swinging and hitting the ball everything changed. Amateurs need to start here, not with the pro tips to hone your swing!

Danny, What a timely piece of golf advice. I have been going over some of my very old collectible golf literature such as your countryman Ernest Jones "Swing Into Golf" and this is exactly what he and teachers like Harvey Pinick try so hard to convey in their books. Hardly anyone of the golf gurus explain it so eloquently as you did in this video. This alone should be the foundation that all golfers should well understand and then continue to perfect the accuracy part. Just brilliant, I have already passed it on to a young person that I am working with...thank you !!

You described earlier the vertical force in another segment and again in this segment. It is for me the biggest improvement I've noticed ... how to swing the club properly in a vertical plane. Most golfer sway when the swing because they believe the swing is more horizontal. Can't believe how this simple thought has changed my game. More consistent shots and all of them with the ball being hit before the turf. It's so much easier to hit with a vertical swing than the former swing. Thanks!

Absolutely Tom, you shift your pressure from right to left but simultaneously you use that vertical force to stay centred as well as add power

Danny: This was simply great. I joined a country club in Florida last year only being a weekly golfer up north with a 20+ handicap. Took many l3essons down here and although my setup, the stance were good I was too mechanical. Got down to a 14 but never confident to go out and play. In fact, I dreaded it. A few days ago I took this philosophy to the range and crushed everything from a wedge to a driver. Yes sometimes push and sometimes pulled but as I started to think only about the target after taking 2-3 swings with your drill I played 3 rounds in last few days. 80,77 and today 74.ona difficult course. Golf is fun now as it should be. I did have the ball thingy but your drill showed me how to transfer this to my regular shots. I am 68 and now aim to shoot my age soon. Thank you!!

This was real Sensei level stuff; let go. It's so true letting go of the body and mind. My best shots are when my body is loose and I say to myself; 'I'm okay where this goes.' Also like you say it's about fitting the swing to you. For so long I tried to get a 'proper' swing, like off the telly. But last week on the range, I found just stepping back with my trail foot seemed to allow me to swing more freely and get a bit of draw as well! Thank you once again Danny!

Danny, my man! Even after all my practice over these past few months, you've given me an "aha!" moment by mentioning centrifugal force. After just one range session, I'm now much more aware of the head of the club, and I'm naturally accelerating through impact instead of at the top of the downswing. My striking and swing path have never looked better! All I need to practice now is controlling the face, and maybe some shot shaping. Oh and I might need to update my distances for each club... :D

I just recently got back into Golf and I'm addicted again. but now I really need to relearn my swing. I started off with what I felt comfortable with and notice my ball was going straight but when I switched to the lower irons...like from 9 iron to a 7 iron...My ball was simply going the same distance. Watching this video makes me want to just start all over again and relearn to swing naturally and not try to control my swing too much. Thanks Danny !

Two words - "my grandson". He has a wonderfully naturally fluid swing. Just yesterday, we were hitting foam balls on the beach with a steady 10-15 mph onshore wind. Hit from the hard pan sand to toward the dunes, high flight, long carry. Go the other and you're eating sand. Still his swing was consistent and we had a couple stop to comment on how good it looks. Its not the first time we've heard that. I've told him, when I grow up I want to swing the club like he does. His big thing - he is not preoccupied with a million swing thoughts, just one thought - "hit the ball". Love this video Danny as it reinforces what we all need to learn - to be ourselves and let our bodies tell us what works best for our swing. When we do, the game becomes sweeter and easier. I love the progressive swing process you are showing here - get the parts warmed up in a successive order - flow and fluidity.

This is incredible advice “let the club go”. I can’t express enough how reserved my swing used to be in effort to control the club and use my arms to push the club for more speed. It’s amazing how the answer to gaining that speed and control is counter-intuitively the exact opposite. Great video! Thanks Danny!

I have been playing golf for about 3 months and have been trying very hard to learn. After an awful (but still fun) round yesterday, I saw this video pop up on my feed today. I just went out back and striped several balls out of my back yard with different clubs consistently using this technique. I had to swing around a bit first to get the feel of the motion, but this works... well. I am going to spend some time tomorrow just swinging my clubs around and then probably hit the range on Monday. This is very exciting! Thanks, Danny!

Thanks to you I now do the following practise swing. Holding the club with the left hand and keeping it attached to the body I swing using your rhythm “push twist, push twist”. This has given me more control on the take away and just as important got my legs moving earlier on the down swing. It’s so enjoyable now hitting the golf ball when the body is not in the way. Thanks once again.

This is so good Danny, just hope my wife lets me back on my garden net to try it out. Funny story. I set my new net up yesterday in the garden and the wife was worried about hitting golf balls into a net in our small London garden. I'm trying to convince her it will be safe and said "come and watch" just a few half wedge shots to start. First shot I top (I never top a golf ball), it hits the bar along the bottom, bounces back and hits me square on the forehead, bouncing off and nearly hitting a window. 😂😂

Thanks for directing me here Danny. I can attest to this personally. I was at the range this week and was struggling to hit my irons. After switching to the driver and letting fly on a few balls, I resumed the iron play and quickly realised how "structured" and "deliberate" my swing and thoughts were. As soon as I relaxed and thought let the club do the work, it all came together again! 5pars on the weekend round! Stay loose, but focussed!

This is going to be my #1 goal, along with a more dead-arm single plane swing a la Bryson. Been working the single plane with hybrids and irons and it takes a lot of variables out of the swing and seems pretty complementary to this "letting go" power source. Still just getting an initial feel really of both concepts, and all I can say is the power is definitely there and the one plane reduces a bunch of variables to simplify the linkage/sequence of the swing. Still gaining some trust and want to get some good range sessions in to get an idea of shape (just hitting into a net), but so far so good. Big swing change but it's all simpler than the previous build lol. I am super impressed with the elaboration of this concept, it is liberating as I am often really locking stuff down on the golf course to Stay In Control, but of course the locked down, powered down swing still has just as many duffs as a freer, more powerful swing might have, just minus the added distance.

Brilliant! Thank you Danny. This is EXACTLY what I need to see and hear; when I get out of my head I can hit the ball a country mile, but too often I yank the club to force it to follow a controlled path, sapping my distance and tweaking a muscle. I'd be very curious to see what effect it would have on ball flight if you swung back and forth freely a few times and then (without stopping) swung at the ball.

Want a good, downswing like Danny's? Take a broom and stick it in the ground so that the sweeping end is the height of your left fist when it is opposite your right thigh. You may have to cut the broom handle, but you must get the height right so that the pinkie side of your fist and the butt end of the golf shaft hit the business end of the broom. Start a few backswings with the butt end of the club touching the broom. Swing back and swing down. Practice the feeling of your pinkie and the butt end of your club hitting the business end of the broom. Now, move so that the broom is opposite your left thigh. Set the back of your left hand against the broom. Practice swinging back & forth until you have the motion of hitting the back of the broom flat on with the back of your left hand. If your clubhead matches the back of your left hand and is perpendicular to the intended flight of the ball, you are going to hit some straight shots on the range and on the course. You can still screw up, but this will help everyone.

Effortless must be a natural phenomenon. Everything that nature does is done in the most efficient way...i.e, with the least use of energy/effort. All natural phenomena, without exception comply with this. That's because they use the maximum laws of nature in an integrated way to accomplish the goal. As Danny points out here...in other words...don't get in the way of nature...let it happen. This is so hard for people (myself included) to do, who are used to straining to do something...controlling. The way I see this applied to the golf swing is that it is a process of taking an angle at critical points in time of the swing and then just letting go. It's more complicated than that, but I think this serves as a good fundamental perspective on anything actually for maximum results. It's ironic that Nature has given us the ability through the mind and intellect to get in the way of being most dynamic through the use of natural law and that we need to surrender to the laws of nature to find fulfillment in our endeavors. Yet...we need to use the intellect and mind to discern where our mistake lies. Boy, that Nature has a strange sense of humor.

Really like the video for someone like me an older golfer just getting back into it, there is so much expectation I have on myself, my theory is its about muscle memory with my swing but honestly don’t have the time to spend hours on a range working on my swing. But this makes sense the hard part is resisting doing the work on the course and forcing myself to practice. Thank you for the demonstration too many videos become so technical and your right I end up spending too much time thinking and not doing. Need to just enjoy being out there no matter what happens.

I really like this. My head is often so full of brain worms that my swing becomes too mechanical and unnatural. Just a question: I have thought of buying an orange whip, but it seems that just swinging the club would do as well, or am I missing something? If you do recommend a whip, which size would you go for?
@DanielMaude
@DanielMaude 4 жыл бұрын
I certainly think you can do this just with a golf club, you don’t need an orange whip. It just helps to feel it more that’s all. I would go for the midsize. I’ve put discount codes in the drop down box if you choose to get one

Hi Danny, When I do this it feels great. However, the golfball goes severely right. Proabably because the club face is open. Could you do a video on how to square the clubface but staying relaxed? I'm aware a lot of videos talk about bowing the left wrist but when I do that I feel tense and like I cant release the club properly

Hi Danny, I have been using your method / video for over a week and played 3 rounds. I do a few swings before tee off with driver (I dont care if people stare at me!) and hold grip 4/10 strength. I am getting more consistent but the big factor I noticed was when I swing easier was it was easier to swing out to the right and connect with the ball (inside to out swing) resulting in I hit the club nearer the centre of the face and it goes straighter and quite far. I did sky a couple and had one hook but the other 11 drives were straight with great flight. I was also finding it easier to use the ground more on downswing. Hoping my two-way miss has gone; certainly I had no slices. Going to keep this going through winter and be ready for new season. ANOTHER SUPERB VIDEO OF YOURS!!!!

I have to say Danny; for all the videos I’ve watched (countless)… this one changed my game and FINALLY straightened my drive, which went from 180-200 (with fades, pulls and slices) to 240-260 straight down the fairway. Of course I’ll have to keep practicing to increase my consistency and hopefully distance, but nothing beats a clean drive out onto the middle of the fairway! Woohoo!!! I wish i could actually go to where you are and get direct lessons… Thanks 😊 🙏 for choosing to be an instructor and making this video (next… putting 😬🤞🏻).
