This theory makes even more sense when you consider that the Goolix appears at the Impact Site on odd numbered days starting with day 9 (needed time to form I guess) and the Mamuta appears in EXACTLY the same place on even numbered days starting with day 8. The Goolix was able to recognize the Mamuta's genetics when seeking out a host, and find a Mamuta egg in the Distant Spring to infect, therefore creating the malformed larval Mamuta we know as the 'Smoky Progg'. Though I suppose there is a hole in this idea as you can fight the Smoky Progg before day 9... but I guess we could say that in the actual canonical timeline, Olimar discovered and fought the Progg sometime after the Goolix showed up. Also, according to Pikipedia's Formidable Oak entry, the arena where the Plasm Wraith is fought has markings similar to those where the Progg egg is found. Generally, I feel this theory is more feasible to what the developers may be planning in 4 onwards than the Umibozu theory, since it's more firmly anchored in Pikmin's lore. Though, I think the creature simply wanting to get off the planet is a less interesting motivation. Still, they could up the stakes, like having 4 or possibly even 5 being about trying to prevent it leaving the planet (since its power might have grown to the point it can leave itself) or something catastrophic could occur, like the creature taking vengeance on Hocotate or Koppai.

I made the theory that the Water wraith could be the spirit of a human as spirits are connected to the afterlife like how Olimar stated that "the Water wraith true form could be in another dimension", I also believe that Goolix has nothing to do with Wraiths or Umibozu, but what I don’t believe is that the Plasm Wraith is the umibuzu, It seems more to me that the Plasm wraith is the Embodiment of earth and Mourns the loss of humanity and Olimar reminds it of the humanity and decided to keep Olimar and wanted to protect him, it saw that Koppites were going to take Olimar away from it so it suck him up to prevent them from getting to Olimar

This thing is basically obsessed with Olimar. The Goolix created a phantom planet and the asteroid to hit Olimar's ship. It created all the various monsters you see on this planet. The creature is also supposedly radioactive as the planet it created to lure captains to their doom is filled with high levels of radiation. As the games progress the Umibozu's power increases. The lifeforms it creates becoming more advanced and evolved. Notice how the planet is called PNF 404. Translated that means Planet Not Found 404. A 404 error is caused by you going to a page that doesn't exist online. This planet for all intensive purposes is nothing but a manifestation created by the Umibozu. The numerous monsters that all oppose you? It's creations. This thing is the main villain of the series.

4 years later and i'm starting to think this theory holds up even more considering what we've seen in Pikmin 4's trailers - the world seems WAY more intact than in the previous games, with a house in the background that's clearly not damaged or decayed in the slightest, even though in all previous Pikmin games the world has been in some stage of decay in fact, looking at how the world is from pikmin 1 to pikmin 4, i can start to see a trend forming in pikmin 1, very few "remnants" of human society remain - the environment is at its most ruined in the first game, with the least signs of previous human life around in pikmin 2, the environment is still very ruined, but human treasures persist nearly everywhere - and are intact, showing a much shorter passage of time since the absence of humans than the first game in pikmin 3, lots of human remnants are on display, and the fact that clearly domestic, store-grade fruits are just lying around without any form of rot or decay shows a very recent time between the absence of humans finally, in pikmin 4, as previously stated, there is an entire intact house with no signs of wear just chilling in the background i think that the goolix is 'learning' every time olimar returns, changing the planet's appearance to look less hostile and more welcoming, in an attempt to lull him into a false sense of security and distracting him from being captured - the treasures in pikmin 2 and his return in pikmin 3 were already proof that this method worked in keeping him coming back

I've noticed a loop hole, can't you fight the smoky progg before fighting the goolix if you wanted to? In that case the goolix would never die to posses the smoky progg and thus they are not the same entity. Interesting theory though, you've made me notice a lot of things I haven't before. both water and plasm wraith are "wraiths", both have special properties that make them different from everything else in the game, and both chase olimar in their levels. The water wraith chases you through through the submerged castle, and the plasm wraith through the formidable oak.

The Goolix didn't seem super capable of doing much else except killing Olimar and the Pikmin. However, in its plasm wraith form, it seemed to be preparing Olimar, possibly for possession, so he could fly away on the ship. But yeah, revenge is also a heavy factor, haha.

perhaps the more intelligent creatures like olimar. are harder to possess because they have more of a sense of self then a creature like a bulborb which is very primitive. that would explain why goolix could possess the smoky progg easily and it couldn't possess olimar. as the smoky progg is just a newborn and olimar is a functional adult.

Adding my two cents to a 6-7 year long theory, I thought of a slightly different version of the theory. It starts off the same where Olimar hits the meteor bit instead of crashing only in the impact site, it was scattered in two areas. Both the Distant Spring and the Impact site. When Olimar is going on his journey to find his ship parts, the Umibozu is in two pieces, the Goolix being the more stable portion, capable of reviving itself after a day or healing while the other portion, injured and seperated from the main portion, possessed a nearby egg to recover it's strength. By the time you finish the game, it is possible but hinted at that Olimar encountered both the Smokey Progg and the Goolix, despite it possible to not encounter either of them. This would mean that after the events of Pikmin, the Goolix was defeated and aware of Olimar while the Smoky Progg was furthered angered at Olimar. At the time of Pikmin 2, the Goolix is slowly searching for it's other half, slowly building up power and staying out of sight while the Smokey Progg goes into hiding, eventually becoming the Water Wraith. In Pikmin 2, it is possible of skipping the Water Wraith until post game but with Louie's notes it is confirmed that Louie must've eaten a part of it. Resulting in a form of posession. In the battle with the Wraith, the Wraith learned from it's battle with Olimar. Making itself invulnerable to the Pikmin used to defeat it last time but is killed by the purple Pikmin. Now after Louie is left by Olimar, he is protected by the Umibozu, who dwelled within him. Now wandering around until if found the Goolix, now possessing the Titan Dweevil. In the Wistful Wild/ Impact Sight. Upon reuniting with the portion of the wraith, it learns about the Pikmin types, attatching and arming itself to find ways to fight with similar traits. Fire, Electricity, Water and Poison with it's body of the Dweevil unable for the Purple Pikmin to startle it as it had with the Water Wraith. However this comes up short as Olimar and the President defeat it, saving Louie. From there on, the Goolix, now reduced to a wraith itself, revives itself and goes to regain it's power and eventually evolves into the Plasm Wraith. Louie, having a bit of the Umibozu in him, mutates slightly and gaining a six sense for the Plasm Wraith. Heading back down to the lair of the Plasm Wraith, Louie rejects the idea of going near there while Olimar goes alone. Olimar however encounters and is defeated by the Wraith but instead of killing Olimar right there, it seeks something else. Either as a sign of respect, values him as a treasure or plans to possess Olimar, it protects Olimar for it's own means. Louie meanwhile, is found by Alphs and the others, resulting in them learning about the area of the Plasm Wraith and thus starting the Plasm Wraith battle. Much of the Wraith's and forms attacks are similar to it's past methods The chasing form of tge Goolix with the manner of the Water Wraith. And laster ther form of the Water Wraith, the levitation of the Smokey Progg and tactics of the Titan Dweevil. Before it could be defeated again however, it retreats away for survival and reforms for a future battle, angrily watching those responsible for his defeats escape from him. For the short version... Goolix > Titan Dweevil > Plasm Wraith Umibozu piece > Smokey Progg > Water Wraith. Louie eats a part of the Water Wraith and encounters the Goolix, becoming the Titan Dweevil. After it's defeat, the Titan Dweevil escapes to evolve into the Plasm Wraith later on. That's my take on the theory and the Umibozu theory is a really good one. You also bring up great points i never would've thought of and It would be amazing if the Umibozu theory was actually true.

Another point for the Smoky Progg, Olimar states than it is a _malformed_ Mamuta larva, hinting at the Goolix's tampering with the embryo causing it to develop such a deformed, eldrich look. And also the fact the Goolix and Mamuta are found in the same area, allowing the possibility of the Goolix being able to identify a Mamuta embryo as a suitable host after failing to kill Olimar in its initial form. That said through, there's a possible hole in the theory via the game's schedule: the Smoky Progg is present from the start of the game until it no longer appears after day 15, and the Goolix does not appear until day 9, and from that point onwards it spawns on odd-numbered days (giving Mamuta the even-numbered days starting day 8) the earliest you can get to the Distant Spring without cheats/hacks and with some ingenious routing is day 4, which makes possible to encounter the Smokey Progg before the Goolix. Through you could argue the Goolix could have made it's move to possess the egg some night between days 9 and 14, but also the Goolix is slooow, making it unlikely that it could slither all the way to the distant spring in a single night, and with enough time left to find and possess the egg.

Hey VG TI, i think the goolix may have done more then possess the smoke progg, I think the goolix also created enemy illusions and possesed more enemies like for example you know how the burrowing snagrets in the first game would explode and they never had a soul and left behind their corpes, but in pikmin 2 and onwards the snagrets have a soul and leave their corpes behind. so that means the burrowing snagrets the first game would only illusions created by the goolix and same with the puffy blowhogs and jellyfloats and the titan dweevil and the empror bulblax.

It's possible. We know the plasm wraith is capable of doing it. While I am unconvinced with some of them (the blowhogs and the jellyfloats have a biological reason for dying like they do), others are more possible, like the snagret and the titan dweevil. Not to mention, with the titan dweevil, it seemed to be communing with Louie, which further hints towards my theory in the second video.

So the Goolix’s weak point is what the Smoky Prog drops. The Water Wraith might have ditched the prog body, since it goes back to being water based. The gold pearl could also be where the hole in the Plasm Wraith is from. It’s not the exact same shape, but the Plasm Wraith was in a different form when it lost the Pearl, so it could have developed the place where the hole was into it’s mouth thing. It’s possible the Goolix was already on the planet and purposefully sunk Olimar’s ship to try and escape.

Uhhh, well unfortunately I got some ideas that go against this theory: If it's interdimensional, why would it be unable to leave the planet? Couldn't it go between dimensions (like teleporting) and just re-enter this dimension somewhere else? Also, if it truly wanted to leave, I feel like it would have either A: Snuck on board one of the ships as its leaving, or B: transformed and pretended to be a treasure so it could be sucked up and stowed away. After all, why else would something the size of a mere dinner plate (the bottle cap olimar brought back) be worth an entire year's sallary unless it was made of pure gold? The plasm wraith can already split up, we know this. So what if they're able to disguise itself as "treasure" in order to escape, get revenge on his home planet, etc...

I know that this came out 10 years ago, but really think about it. If pikmin 4 is a split timeline between the bad ending and the good ending, or maybe it's just the 1 millionth time he's crash landed, wouldn't the really big dog at the end of the game be the goolix? Because it's not like those other forms at all. It's really furry, while the others are more metallic looking besides the smoky progg.

I like the idea about everything and speaking of the progg growing in power over the games, this all foreshadows that he will be back in Pikmin 4 and will most likely be the final boss. over the Pikmin series, the progg has found out how to grow another pair of limbs in Pikmin 2 and in Pikmin 3, we see his plasma wraith form as walking and even flying a bit. The plasma wraith also somehow grew tentacles out of its head :/ Id love it if you included this in your next video and how the progg may look like in Pikmin 4! VGTI, I have a theory. The wraiths, the goolix, etc. are sentient globs of radiation (the gieger counter shows there is tons of it on PNF-404). The Smoky Progg may be a sentient manifestation of the pollution caused by the nuclear explosions. The Bulborbs are ladybugs and/or other types of beetles that were exposed to the radiation. The pikmin are special types of plants that were altered by the radiation. The other plants increased into massive sizes. The "treasures" are lost items from the previous lifeforms that lived there, i.e. humans. I hope you like my theory!

There is a loophole some might think in the beginning. So you say the Goolix is the meteor Olimar crashed to in Pikmin 1 right? Well in the opening cutscene of Pikmin 1, The meteor doesn't seem to crash down to PNF-404. Just Olimar and the ship crashed down while the meteor fly's away. But even further, In the scene of Olimar falling, there is a meteor, but that is very clearly Olimar. And the other meteors shown where connected to the ship. Because both of them first appear in the Impact site, the excuse of saying it landed somewhere else is excused. My excuse I was able to find is that the meteor might just been delayed in falling thus explain why you meet it at day 9 and not at day 1,2, or even 6.

+Camilla Diaz The Progg does, yes, but the Goolix itself (if this theory is true) seems to work through unknown means. It possessed the Progg, meaning killing the Progg released the Goolix for it to move on to something else. Sort of like a spirit. This is all just theorizing of course.

The theory doesn't explain the playful nature the plasma wraith shows to Olimar at the beginning of their encounter. Not to mention that it was presumably able to take over the Smoky Progg fairly easily and quickly(as early as 3-5 days). If you do it right, you can hold on to Louie for upwards of 80 days. We know the two of them were separated when Olimar was taken by the plasma wraith, so what is taking the plasma wraith so long to take over Olimar? To mix theories, Louie was really easy to possess/inhabit. Not to mention that you can kill the Smoky Progg before Goolix (Goolix doesn't even show up until day 9, and the smoky progg disappears after day 15).

The Plasm Wraith didn't appear to have playful intentions, but maybe it did. Who can say? Chances are it's either a long process or we just have to use gameplay and story segregation. And as for in what order you kill them, either way it could be explained by the Goolix going to the Progg right away or not until later. After the Progg is killed, the Goolix is back at the impact site. It's all dependent on the player's actions.

+VG TI I think it was one of Olimar's Journal Entries that described the plasma wraith as being playful, curious and meaning no harm. It was only as Olimar tried to leave (or something tried to attack Olimar) that it showed aggression.

Oh yeah, that's true. So, with that in mind, the plasm wraith falls into two potential camps: A. This theory. It's possible the playfulness was a ruse. B. The Plasm Wraith is actually just a confused creature who lashed out because of possessiveness.

Foolix disproves this great theory( unless it crashed here too) and also the two smokey progg eggs that make two smokey proggs in the last night expedition in pikmin 4. Edit: now that I think about it the goolix could of became foolix in pikmin 4! ( wait, in cavern for a king there are two water wraiths in pikmin 4.)

My theroy is that the biopic could shape shift + posses things like you said and when he posseses the smokey fropp i dont no how to Say it but the fropp didnt have the poser to roar like that So he uses an object to do it and then when you fight the water wraith and get the microphone that would mean that he waz using it to make the smokey fropp make that sound and that ability but also when you kill the fropp he drops the gold pearl that may use as a Kind of thing were what ever he touches it will become that color So the foolix is basiclly the water wraith and plasm wraith and possesd the smokey fropp to

zingodoom Haha, yeah, theories can really open up some games. With Pikmin, I've always seen it as a series that is actually very deep and has a lot of stuff going on in the background, rather than being really obvious. It's easy to write the series off as kids' games with no depth, but Pikmin is something than can really be dug into. I'm glad you enjoyed!

+Derrell Weaver That's likely what we saw at the end of Pikmin 3, crashing down to the planet. And as you mentioned, chances are Louie is involved in some way. Maybe they came back for him. Or maybe he's down there communing with the Plasm Wraith. Either way, he seems to have a deep connection to this thing.

@@VGTI Just to add something here, Louie refuses to go into the Formidable Oak in Pikmin 3, and the narrator said that the crash landing of the Drake probably wasn't even an accident at all, meaning the Plasm Wraith might have pulled it down or something.

While it seems like the Goolix had powers to drag ships down into PNF 404, it didn't have powers to leave it. For that, it needed Olimar. That's why he's being taken care of by the Wraith in 3, and why it's seen angrily waving at the captains when they leave. That's my rough theory anyway. Been a while since I came back to this video! :)

The fact that it's a malformed larval mamuta is entirely speculation on Olimar's part (since he says it is 'thought' to be), though like I said in the video, I agree that whatever the Progg is, it was supposed to become a Mamuta. The keyword here is that it is 'malformed'. If we go off this theory, it's malformed because of the Goolix possessing it.
