Here is where it gets interesting and some things could be learned by the US. I had to prove I could support myself financially. I have to pass a German test to prove I know the language. I am not a citizen yet. I have a permanent resident card. Before it expires, I have to also pass a kind of "culture and history" test. I had to get a work permit to be able to get a job here. Does that answer your question? I should note that I didn't come here as a refugee. There are different rules in place depending on why you came to Austria. Since I did not come as a refugee or asylum seeker, I get nothing. I am not eligible for any "freebies." I am covered by health insurance because my husband and I work and I can access any benefits that I pay for (which is how it should be).

I've been feeling burnt out on politics recently, which has never happened before. Not after any of Trump's shit so far. What is even more outrageous isn't that Stephen got a standing ovation for pointing out the obvious, but that the US and the government allows Trump to do anything. We said we developed and yet he was able to become president when he acts like a brat. I am sorry, but that questions the statement that America instills in being developed. If anything, it just proves and highlights what is wrong in the US and that we still have much development to partake upon. Our leading fathers who wrote the constitution wanted to prevent this from ever happening and yet, here we are. How disappointing.

But young people are staying to the left, and so tension has been rising, going in different directions. Unfortunately, the US country is governed by a minority. Less people vote GOP than dems, and by a large margin. That makes the problem worse. 3 million more people voted for Hillary. Even more vote for dems in the Senate. Your politics is not representative. That's your biggest problem.

I help run a hotel here in the UK & amongst my guests now, are some Americans, attending a conference here. A mix of Democrat & Republican voters. Some had missed the show, so I played it back. To a man, they cheered Stephen's comments. All of them said that Trump makes them embarrassed to admit being American, especially when visiting overseas.
