The Goring has been perfecting the art of Afternoon Tea since it opened its doors over a century ago. As the holder of The British Tea Guild Council’s Top London Afternoon Tea Award and The Award of Excellence, we continue to delight guests with delicious pastries, fruity homemade jams and high quality tea blends. The menu changes to offer the freshest, locally-sourced fruits in line with the season.
Afternoon Tea is served in the luxurious, five-star surroundings of The Veranda every day. On Saturdays you can also enjoy Afternoon Tea in The Dining Room.
Afternoon Tea is an indulgence, so complement the experience with a glass of Bollinger Special Cuvée Champagne or Bollinger Rosé Champagne along with a seasonal amuse bouche. We also offer a gluten-free tea, which can be requested in advance.

The silver teapot is beautiful! One is really puzzled by the white bread instead of brown or beet root bread. You have a gift for presenting the tea service as it actually is.

I love watching your videos on teas! It’s so fun to join you vicariously 😊 After weeks of you asking a simple request of each venue, you have again been let down. I really don’t get how difficult it is to understand what you’re asking, especially since you’ve tried so many different ways of asking. I heart assorted warm breads with butter. Keep the rest but bring me a delish pot of fresh tea too. Butter is a treat but not so good mixed is gourmet sandwiches other than raw vegetables like radish. Why did they butter your sandwiches ? 😎🙏💕

Welcome to Wanderland! Ahhhh the butter on the sandwiches situation. It can be quite common here- I believe it’s to keep the bread from getting wet with the fillings. The way you asked for no butter was 100% clear so I don’t understand why your request gets lost in translation! Perhaps the staff making the sandwiches aren’t British and don’t quite understand the nuance. Anyway, fabulous review once again. If you ever want to review a cream tea outside of London, I recommend Clivedon House, Berkshire!

I love your afternoon teas. Ordering sandwiches without butter can be a challenge. It helps to know how they are made. The sandwiches are made from a whole unsliced loaf. The bread is sliced horizontally and made as a full unit, then filled trimmed and sliced. This makes them perfectly uniform. I wonder if the speciality breads are available in slices. This may be why you are not getting the same bread. Everything is probably made in advance and maybe the fillings may not match the units that were made. I doubt that they make sandwiches after the tea starts. Even made from slices you would have to make 3 fingers. The fingers aren’t made as one unit. I would be surprised if they prepare sandwiched after the tea starts. I watched the hotel meal preparations on utube and can see how all the food is prepared. Mass produced for a large quantity of servings. Special request seem appropriate considering the cost of the tea. Check out tea preps in hotels and it will help you see the challenge. Maybe requesting at the time of your reservations. It could be they are confusing no butter and no dairy leaving you with a dry sandwich. They air probably making one finger at a time on white bread so you would end up with three different sandwich fillings. I look forward to seeing your next tea.

Don’t get me wrong- I love butter! Just not on cold tea sandwiches… heck one of my favourite sandwiches is in France- a simple baguette, a ton of French butter and some glorious ham- garnished with cornichon pickles absolutely divine 💕 oh yes… the lack of ham was quite surprising 🤣 Enjoy your fresh baked bread and thanks for joining me in wanderland 💕🎄✨

I would say it's a bit disappointing that a high class hotel like the Goring did not understand a simple request regarding the buttering of the bread. You have every right to withhold all or part of the discretionary service charge.

Exactly a small boutique hotel like The Goring should focus on personalized service at the very least. That’s what they have going for them in theory. Same with rushing people. If you go to the Goring you don’t want to feel you are in a Caffe Concerto.

What a shame the Goring didn't fulfil their standards regarding the various breads and the simple request for no butter. It's a lot of money for a not brilliant experience. Was it noisy , it sounds like it. I like butter on some sandwiches but not on others so I'd certainly get the staff mixed up. 😁
