@artofmartialcinemaamc53343 жыл бұрын
Y'all don't get it. Its not the Joker not only because of the rights, but it gave way for the team to be very creative in Joker's origin story being literally multiple choice because there are many potential Jokers still out there. One of the directors said the real Joker was still out there taking notes on the twin Jokers. While there were technically 3 versions of the Joker on scree ( I say only 2 because Jeremiah wasn't fully realized in his personal till he got dropped in that acid, created the true "2nd coming" of the Joker) , it's still only 2 "characters", leaving room for another Joker to finally take up the mantle (unless it is Jeremiah, which I wouldn't mind at all. Cameron nailed Joker to a tee).

Instead they should have just let them coexist for a while, both with their personalities and types of plans, maybe sometimes working together or against each other. He plans, and does it well. That’s what Jeremiah does. But, he’s not crazy enough. With enough of the right help, he could’ve been cured. When we all know, there’s no curing the Joker. Your point about the Joker demanding attention in a room without ever asking for it...totally fits Jeremiah too, though? He just doesn’t do it in a jovial way right off the bat like Jerome; he starts by doing it in a quiet way that makes you scared of his mere presence being in the same room with you. Because while you literally have no clue what he’s thinking, you just know that it’s gonna be bad for you. Jerome just did not have that scary factor to him, as insane as he was; the fun with him being onscreen was simply seeing what random twisted hijinks he’d get up to, he was FUN to watch. But you never got the idea that he could be the gangster-esque Clown Prince of Crime one day, ya know? Jerome easily has the charismatic nature, which is key, but charisma just does not equate to intelligence, & I’m sorry but the Joker is most certainly supposed to be intelligent; also very key. When Jeremiah walks into a room, you don’t know what sort of twisted plan/contingency he has to get out of that room; given his proven technical know-how in the past, that makes him almost more terrifying than Jerome in a way, at least to me. I think the show makes it a point to say that the Joker would not work unless you have both the anarchist nature of Jerome as well as the calculating mind of Jeremiah; that’s why he starts really coming into the role in season 5. It’s the many starkly different (yet key) personality traits of the Joker finally blending in a coherent way. Jerome was one side of the Joker; Jeremiah was another side, but not any less important. I respect your opinion though, I do love Jerome dearly, I just think Jeremiah is not this “inaccurate portrayal” that a lot of people try to paint him out to be.
@ignisinfernal18434 жыл бұрын
Well said. Jerome is very fun to watch and is clearly extremely insane, but Jeremiah has always given off that "Joker" presence to me, even when before Season 5, when he's much more serious and calm. Joker hasn't always been as maniacal, and he tended to be more of a serious criminal mastermind when he was first created. Jerome's relationship with Bruce also needed a lot of work. Jerome only really thought of Bruce as a loose-end that he wanted to kill instead of the twisted sense of friendship and obsession that both Jeremiah and the comic book Joker have.
@brogie11514 жыл бұрын
@@ignisinfernal1843 Exactly, totally agree with you here. Jerome’s connection with Bruce was literally forced upon him by Theo Galavan; he himself had no real attachment to Bruce beyond “I remember that some guy told me to kill you in another life so now I want to kill you again”; falls so flat when you really think about it. Jeremiah on the other hand feels like the opposite side of a coin from Bruce right from his introduction, in so many ways. I’ll finish by saying that Joker is so menacing in other media because he’ll tell you jokes, sure, but you know that when he decides to go quiet you’re in for the most terrifying moments of your life. With Jeremiah, you get tons of moments just like that; Jerome just didn’t have those actual “scary” moments for me, but that’s okay because it worked so well in painting a full-on portrayal of the Joker by the end of the series. Different chaotic personalities all blended together to become the twisted clown that we all know.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure "Jeremiah" was the response to the pushback from WB that Jerome was too much like the Joker. The Gotham showrunner(s) then decided to pull out one of the Joker's "personalities," as it were, likening the two characters to the split personalities of Two-Face. "Jerome is too much like Joker? Okay, how about we show you what it would be like if the Joker and Two-Face were the same character? We saw the Psychopath, now let's see the Sociopath."
@ignisinfernal18434 жыл бұрын
I doubt that. Both Jerome and Jeremiah are based off of two different versions of the Joker (Jerome is the modern age Joker and Jeremiah is the Golden Age Joker). I think they wanted to go a different direction. Imo, they had done just about everything they could with Jerome. He was already killed and resurrected, had his face cut off, had a cult, and tried to kill Bruce and was beaten by him when he was a child. Jerome was actually missing a lot of aspects of Joker, like him being a genius comparable to Batman (Jerome was smart, but was easily outsmarted by child Bruce and Galavan), his twisted obsession with Bruce and seeing him as a friend (Jerome only thought of Bruce as a loose end when before he was killed and unlike Joker, wanted to kill Bruce), and he didn't really look like Joker aside from the cut off face (though this might've been more due to WB restricting the show, but they were able to be more accurate later on, and Joker isn't supposed to be crazy before his transformation, anyway).

I must admit, I was skeptical for a long while when it was revealed that it would be Jeremiah rather than Jerome who would end up being the real Joker, as he just didn’t seem like the Joker. Despite the Joker-like appearance he gained from Jerome’s gas, he was far too cold and calculating, like an unfeeling sociopath rather than the maniacal psychopath he was supposed to be. He was doing things the Joker would do, he just wasn’t playing the part right and lacked a certain Joker feel. That is, until the final episode when he made his final and complete evolution, that’s what truly sold it for me. It was a long, drawn out transformation, but the final result was well worth it. And his relationship with Bruce, and by extension Batman, was very well done, as it essentially and almost accurately made Monaghan’s Joker’s whole reason for being revolve around Bruce. It was even strongly implied that he figured out that Bruce was Batman, and didn’t care about his identity, which has also been implied in the comics as well.

Monaghan was the best because he could bring out any aspect of the character. The sadistic maniac that was Jerome, the chilling and reserved menace of Jeremiah, and this may be cheating, but after his performance in shameless he could play the Joker in the same way Phoenix plays him, a broken man who made a monstrous abstract sculpture from his broken pieces. I think it was honestly very clever the way they went about it. Jerome was straight up dangerously psychotic, Jeremiah was deviously calculating, and J was a brilliant combination of both. I full-heartedly believe that if Jerome and Jeremiah had stayed together instead of being separated by their mother that they would have ruled Gotham as two sides of the same coin. The anarchist mad man and the unfeeling cut-off Sociopathic criminal mastermind, both of them equal in power but taking on two very different sides of that same power. Jerome is the one that people want to follow because of his charisma and the unnaturally hypnotic pull that they feel toward him, he's relatable and has the perfect sob story to go with it of an unloving abusive mother and just as cruel and abusive extended family not to mention that his mere presence in a room commands respect. Jeremiah, on the other hand, doesn't put on a show as his brother does he just assumes that others will follow his lead. His cold, calm collected attitude along with this air he has about himself, this avid assuredness that he is always in charge even when he is in situations where he is the farthest thing from it gives him this aura of power and lends to him a belief that he is untouchable, that he can not be killed, this strikes fear and unwavering respect into anyone who is within his presence. This is what makes people follow him, fear, respect, and power that's how the Valeska brothers would rule Gotham, everyone would bow down those who didn't would be made a public example of and end up taking a permanent dirt nap.

Jeremiah was an important step to the Joker, Jerome was TOO psychotic. He was too out there. He was a thug. Jeremiah, had the intelligence, the calmness and a grander version.
@nicksawyer3203 жыл бұрын
Jeremiah didn’t have that joker personality like Jerome did. I mean Jerome had the laugh, smile, spirit, “jokes”, actually looks like joker. Also at some moments Jerome gives off the Heath ledger vibes with his face and gestures. On the other hand Jeremiah looks like some 80s cartoon show doodoo. Also the make up on Jeremiah looks shitty. Jeremiah talks slow and boring, doesn’t even sound like the joker and he had to be created like the typical old fashion purple coat and green hair boring joker, at least with Jerome he was wearing a different and better outfit. Also joker is very psychotic and that’s what Jerome was and he wasn’t afraid to do stuff alone while Jeremiah had an army watching his back. Jeremiah to me was a different villain but not joker imo.

@@nicksawyer320 facts I hated Jeremiah. Long live Jerome!
@faux47803 жыл бұрын
@@nicksawyer320 I disagree, i feel they have the same goals: to make gotham mad and spread the "joker" ideals, and that the only reason jeremiah is so much more serious is he sees the scope of it all, before the laughing gas he was an architect and an engineer, a pragmatist with keen constant knowledge of every moving part of every plan, jerome did what he did simply because he wanted to and treated gotham like a toy, jeremiah grasps the necessity of it all and considers gotham a cancer patient, to most radiation is a poison, to some a cure, in the same way he considers insanity gothams antidote, and himself as doing a public service and a labour he cant do half heartedly
@tragedyplustime82712 жыл бұрын
Imo both suck. Jerome has the concept of insane Joker (Calling Mark Hamill Joker a thug is an insult to the character), but just lacks the hamminess. He speaks iconic Joker lines, but he never screams them into the air, while laughing like a hyena. He has a bit of pizzazz, but not nearly enough to actually be Joker. I'd say Jack Nicholson gets closer, even if his backstory is REALLY dumb. Jeremiah ISN'T Joker. He just isn't. It's the same as Heath Ledger, he was a great actor but he wasn't The Joker. Joker isn't a nihilist, calmed individual. The closest he ever got was in "The Killing Joke", and even then not only is that comic quite overrated (Except the backstory), it also happened during a period when Joker still had some sense. But now everyone treats Joker like he's a man trying to prove that everyone is just like him, when he never was. It's just that DC adopted new Joker for the New 52, when Ledger's Joker might as well be evil Anarchy. If you want to see The TRUE Joker, and how the character's done justice, look at the Arkham series of games. Especially Origins & Knight. Joker there is the TRUE Joker: A psycopath with no plan but a brilliant mind for murder & mayhem.
@himum34292 жыл бұрын
@@tragedyplustime8271 There is no TRUE Joker there are legit three of them and all 3 of them conform to different archetypes. 1- is that Methodically Sinister Kingpin of Crime. 2- is the absolutely insane Sometimes harmless, sometimes deadly clown. 3- The more modern, Sadistic, embodiment of Chaos. Any form of media can take these and follow them to the letter or form hybrids of them. Heath and Joaquin are both the 3rd Modern Joker but they play it completely different ways. Leto despite his failings is clearly inspired by the 1st while Romero is Defo the second and Nicholson is somewhat of a hybrid of 1 and 2. DC have come out with the Three Jokers storyline which basically confirmed this but people who looked at Joker's mannerisms over the years have known this for quite a while tbh.
