Where the old Polish main station (Warszawa Główna) once was, has now been converted into a railway museum. It's full of old railway memorabilia from the PKP (Polish Rail Company) . They have tons of items, including photos and miniature replicas of many of the trains. While this part was interesting, the real star of the Stacja Muzeum is the old trains themselves. They are located out back of the Muzeum and they are quite amazing. Some of the trains were built in Germany, while others were built in Poland. The oldest is a early 1900's steam engine made during the time of the Prussian Empire. You can even go inside a few of the trains. There is even a story shown inside one of the trains, which is significant to WWII. In fact, it could have possibly ended the war early is successful.

Operation Vistula (or "Operacja Wisła" in Polish) was an action taken by the communist government of Poland in 1947. The operation aimed to relocate Ukrainians and other national minorities from southeastern Poland to territories located in the west and north of the country, which were acquired after World War II. The operation was named after the Vistula, the longest river in Poland, and it was a response to the growing ethnic and political conflict between Poles and the Ukrainian ethnic minority after World War II. The operation was also a response to the armed activities carried out by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). Operation Vistula relocated about 141,000 people, mostly Ukrainians, but also Lemkos, Boykos, and others. Many of those who were resettled lost their homes and lands, and their culture and national identity were severely suppressed by the communist authorities. The operation remains a source of controversy and tension between Poland and Ukraine to this day.

I can see how that would cause severe tension between these countries. Thank you for explaining "Operation Vistula" . Your comment is very detailed and informative. 🙏

@@TravelAddictGuy The Volhynia Massacre (also known as the Volyn Massacre or the Massacres of Poles in Volhynia) was a series of mass murders carried out by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), along with local Ukrainian peasants, between 1943 and 1944. This took place in the region of Volhynia in western Ukraine during the Second World War. The victims of this massacre were predominantly ethnic Poles, who were civilians. The number of victims is estimated to be between 35,000 and 60,000 according to Polish estimates, while some Ukrainian historians suggest a lower number, around 20,000 to 30,000. Regardless of the exact figure, it was a significant loss of life and represents a dark chapter in the history of Polish-Ukrainian relations. The violence was characterized by brutal methods such as torture and mutilation, and it extended to women and children as well. The Ukrainian Insurgent Army aimed to create a homogeneous Ukrainian state with no Polish, Jewish, or Russian influence. Hence, they saw the ethnic cleansing of Poles as a step towards achieving that goal. The memory of the massacre remains a sensitive and controversial topic in Polish-Ukrainian relations to this day. While the Ukrainian parliament in 2003 recognized the fact of the Polish population's large losses in Volhynia, it has stopped short of classifying the action as ethnic cleansing or genocide, a stance that has been met with criticism from the Polish side. The Polish government, on the other hand, officially refers to the events as a genocide. It's important to note that historians still actively debate the motivations, scale, and character of the violence. Some argue that it was a part of broader hostilities during World War II, while others view it as a premeditated act of ethnic cleansing.

Warszawa Główna served as the main railway station in Warsaw in the years 1945-1965. The Main Railway Station was located along Aleje Jerozolimskie, between Marszałkowska and Emilii Plater Streets in pre-war Warsaw (these are the areas on the other side of Towarowa Street). It was a monumental building. It was one of the most modern and largest railway stations in Europe. The Germans blew it up in 1944. The pre-war railway speed records belong to Luxtorpeda and locomotive - Parowóz Pm36-1. Unfortunately, these trains didn't survive the war.

Nice vid. There is a bigger museum of really old steam locomotives in Poland. It's called Parowozownia Wolsztyn and it is in Wolsztyn. As far as I know it's quite well wide known among railway fans.

Amazing that there was just a guy who was a walking mailbox and you could have just gave him your letter. It bet you could have sent it anywhere, like in a regular post office. Unlike today when you can only sent packages along the train line and the other person have to be at the further station right on time to pick it up.

13:00 1st hint the post horn, 13:05 the 2. hint POCZTA = Post he & his train wagon are from the Polish Postal Service.😉 Im not sure but it looks like before WWII. Great video as always & i very much appreciate your effort in pronouncing everything you read in Polish, Germans don't even bother trying simple things like hello of thanks in Polish., knowing just a little bit in Polish goes a loooooonnnnnnng way in Poland. You from a country half a world away are doing much much better than People from a country, bordering us for over 1000 years...

@@TravelAddictGuy Don't worry m8 your doing outstanding, we Poles know that Polish is very hard for people from non Slavic countries. Your channel is incredibly under rated you deserve at least 100K subs. Enjoy your travels & thank you for showing Poland honestly. If you decide to set ur basecamp in Poland, i suggest you search for a place close but not directly in a big city. Keep in mind in Poland renting a apartment is not very common, its possible to rent, but most people buy.

This place still has some "backyard" vibe, but probably will change soon. I used to go to some dangerous clubs there, in one of the deeper streets 😀 but probably it will all be sucked in by the growing modernised business area just next to it
