One of my favorite guitar sounds ever is that achived by Jimi that fortunate day, July 1st 1970 when he recorded Pali Gap, Hey Baby and Dolly Dagger at Electric Lady. The Flying V and the Univibe at quite fast speed vibrato mode, magic!

The Flying V made so much sense from different points of view. Jimi loved it✌️ You mention some great songs/tones here. Some of the magic is in the Vibe not in the Chorus mode actually and I think the Vibe mode is a perfect match with the Flying V 🎸☮️

That is some very tasty playing, throughly enjoyed your video. What number is your 91 Custom Jimi Hendrix Vee ? I am lucky enough to own number 284 and it is the best sounding guitar I’ve ever played. Very resonate, great clarity and a nice woody tone, very Jimi. Regarding the pickup’s, the only information I could find indicated Gibson used their standard humbuckers of that period. The same pickup’s they used for any humbucker equipped guitar they sold in the early 1990s. Kind Regards !

Do you know what pickups come stock with that 90s hall of fame V? The 2020 has custombuckers and the love drops has the 57 classics i think. Great vid. That late period is very overlooked by Hendrix fans.

@@MikelBluni my guess is that they might be 490R and 498T as these were the typical stock humbuckers in Gibsons during the 90s but I am not sure. Thanks again.

Here's a fun fact on that Flying V, the Volume and Tone controls were wired as if they were on a right handed guitar iow to turn the guitar up would move in a clockwise motion looking at it from the front, this cut out the confusion moving from the right handed Strat to the V
@MikelBluni
@MikelBluni Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yeah that could definitely be! I have a lefty Strat for actually left-handed playing and it’s wired vice versa. No wonder good ole Jimi was confused 😃🎸✌️

@MikelBluni
@MikelBluni 11 ай бұрын
Thanks man, I’d love to do that, but KZbin and copyrights is a very strict thing - they already blocked several of my live videos. That’s why I always slightly adapt Jimi licks in my videos. Fortunately, I’m a heavy live gigging musician so I keep wielding that Flying V for the live audience 😀

@MikelBluni

I‘ve shown the settings in form of a picture early in the video. I don’t change it for the V. I play so many gigs that it would be way too complicated too adjust the settings always. I work with the volume and tone on my guitar 🎸

Excuse me. You mean volume 1 or 2 of a total of 10 that the knob has ? And even then you roll of the tone ? I never imagined that. When I use fuzz and want to clean I reduce volume to 5 and even there I feel weird because I heard players only roll back to 8 or 7. I would try it. Thank you,
@MikelBluni
@MikelBluni Жыл бұрын
Yes I mean the regular 0-10 volume knob. Pls bear in mind that different PUs and electronics react differently. I don’t use Fuzz in this video. Thanks for your feedback ✌️

I thought he had the fuzzface on when he played that on The Isle of Wight
@MikelBluni
@MikelBluni 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your estimate. I debated with a friend on that. I mean in the end one should do it like it feels best, but in Jimi‘s case it really seems like he had his routines and the Flying V tone doesn’t sound like Fuzz…to me at least ✌️🎸
@Harry-zc8rg
@Harry-zc8rg 6 ай бұрын
I seriously doubt it. My understanding is that Hendrix used the Fuzz to get extra sustain and drive. A strat into a Marshall even dimed is not very overdriven per se. Humbuckers are a different story, however. On top of this, a fuzz face with humbuckers is not the greatest sound to my ears, and Hendrix may have felt that too. I believe Jimi was moving away from the psychedelic fuzzed out sound in his later compositions (Dolly Dagger, Freedom, In from the Storm, Hey baby etc..). Who can say however!

@@atomicblues2224 that red house solo definitely has some fuzz! He clearly switches it off before the final verse. Makes sense that the fuzz would be brought in as a boost for solos and such. Also the Red House at Isle of Wights is one of the heaviest and angriest. I think that was a rough gig. I will sit down and rewatch the Flying V section of IoW show.
