I did not comment on your last video. You obviously have a right to your opinion. The hogs I raise eat mostly organic vegetables, along with grasses, weeds and roots. They are clean animals that pick a place to relieve themselves and use that same spot over and over, leaving the rest of their area clean. They do wallow in water or mud to stay cool. Mud is not unhealthy. Not all hogs are raised in filthy conditions, I also raise chickens and keep their food healthy and clean as well. Chickens relieve themselves everywhere they go and do not mind eating among droppings. I eat both chicken and pork, but a hog is a much cleaner animal than a chicken. Sometime take a good look at the conditions talapia are grown... much, much more filthy than pastured hogs. The new testament is clear, in several places, that eating traditionally unclean food is OK.

But also the stuff in that lunch came from a factory farm where they are raised in their own feces sadly. =( --I just bought a new piece of land & I want to put a couple of pigs on it around the pond so they can help clear a lot of the overgrowth. I raised pigs for almost 5 years and I can tell you first hand that they are very hygienic animals. They are one of the only animals that voluntarily eliminates in a separate place than where they eat and sleep. They do not roll in their own feces and they do not eat their own feces, they roll in mud to stay cool and prevent sunburn. Contrary to popular belief they are extremely intelligent animals. Any meat can carry parasites, that's why there are suggested cooking temperatures for ALL meats. The human body digests pork exactly the same way as any other meat protein. If you don't want to eat pork, that's fine, I'm not going to judge you. Just don't spread false information about something, especially when there is such a large audience on the receiving end.
@TheDkd6
@TheDkd6 8 жыл бұрын
+SixToMidnight Funny, I too have raised pigs for years, both 4-h and for butcher and they are not as "hygienic" as you would purport. It was not uncommon to see them drink the urine of another as it was coming out, i've seen one eating a dead chicken that it somehow found. I found another munching on a dead ground squirrel. Now, most of the time they will choose to defecate away from where they sleep, but often end up(inadvertently)wallowing in it . I also have hunted many wild pig and have found them to be just as unclean. The biggest issue here is that they eat dead things(provided the chance) and that can be an issue for human consumption. If you eat pork, that's fine, I'm not going to judge you. Just don't spread false information about something, especially when there is such a large audience on the receiving end.

Holy Cow! $17 a bag! I think a big bag of jerky, lots of fruit and veggies, good cheese, etc. is what liked to eat when I worked monitoring streams working for the state.
@BugleBoy1990
@BugleBoy1990 9 жыл бұрын
+dirtpatcheaven The $17 cost is the price the government pays to get that bag of lunch to each firefighter. That includes purchasing all of the items, the labor spent on assembling the individual bags, and the cost of distributing them to each and every firefighter. What's in the bag may only cost a few bucks, but the time that went into packing and delivering it to the firemen is also a big factor in the cost of the lunch.

+BugleBoy1990 You know BugleBoy, I was thinking like you too, briefly, then, after taking the advantages of scale, the fact that most of the lunches are picked up at a Crew Camps rather than delivered ad hoc, and the actual cost of getting the food where it had to go from where it was available (I know the area very well and services available) into account I've changed my mind. In the end, I come away feeling there's a great deal of fat in that $17 figure and it's not in all the pork sandwiches. Regardless of perceived cleanliness or religious preference pork is one of the cheapest meats available. I suspect, from the evidence at hand, that about $6 to $7 per bag is 'profiting' someone. That's pretty steep even for "government work." I'm with Cody on that issue, for the price tag, it should be more and better food. I can imagine that the Forest Service has many larger fish to fry, but the men doing firefighting work deserve a $17 sack lunch (and then some) but it should have commensurate value and nutrition in it and it should be satisfying. Clearly Cody doesn't think that is the case and I agree. The word I'm emphasizing here is VALUE. I just don't see it. However, after reading 'Catering Magazine's Article Fighting Fire With Food', there's certainly more to it than meets the eye. Any way you slice it, it's profitable if you can get into the market. Google that title if you want to read it too, I can't include a link or I would.

I won't argue with you in regards to scripture, and levitical laws, I'm simply not well-enough informed, however, the notion that pigs are unclean animals is not true. All animals forced into extreme circumstances do what is required of them to survive, this includes humans. Pigs do not choose to live in among their feces and vomit, that livestyle is forced on them by unethical farming practices.

1) Pigs behave no differently than cattle, sheep or even chickens, in fact, they are the most intelligent domesticated farm animal by far. 2) The issues of hogs eating their own feces, living in their own filth and eating their own kind derives from mass farming of these animals, where thousands of them are jammed into enclosed, indoor facilities. If you stuck 100 people in your bedroom for their whole life, I can assure you they would also be wallowing around in their own crap. 3) Pigs are intelligent and relatively clean farm animals. The reason they even like mud and wallow in it is because their skin is extremely sensitive to strong sun, scratches and so forth so the mud is used as a protective layer. They do NOT wallow in their own feces, in fact they'll set up a specific area to poop and only poop there. When they are forced to live inside and be inhumanely crowded then there is no option but to poop where they sleep and eat. 4) Pigs were not created to eat garbage and process waste---put a pig in an open field and ALL it will eat is fresh grass, roots, nuts and berries if it can find any. 5) Christ came to abolish the old law--the one with hundreds of regulations and rules--the old law was there to cover sins, not forgive. This is all coming from a Christian and a free range, organic farmer. Enjoy your bacon.

Have to disagree with you on this one. Have you ever been on a free-range pig farm? Pigs are very clean... Once they have established their shelter, they will go outside to do their business. They make mud wallows because that is their only way to cool down. PIGS DO NOT HAVE SWEAT GLANDS LIKE US CODY. The cool mud is their only way to cool down. You know who wallow in their own shit? Horsess, cows and dogs. Coming from somebody who lives around these animals. On that point of eating anything. What do we eat? Meat, vegetables, small animals, nuts, seeds, tubers, roots, fruits, fungi. A pig eats exactly the same, it is what they do: They are scavengers, basically like us. And crabs? Sure they eat everything that decomposes and is in our minds 'dirty', but the entire sea ecosystem is dependent on them. Garbage needs to be cleaned up. That is their task, but does that make them inferior to other animals? Unclean? Do you not greet the garbage disposal men who do very tough work, because they clean up your rubbish?

I respect your reason for not eating pork, and I understand your reasoning for doing so. I have raised pigs myself and they will eat all sorts of things. We raised pigs for 2 years on our homestead, we don’t anymore, didn’t enjoy it. In my experience pigs will not eat their own fecal matter. They will pick a place to defecate away from their food, away from their bed, and away from their wallows. Matter of fact pigs are easy to clean up after. Now chickens on the other hand will defecate on their food, their water, each other, they don’t care.

Swine are as clean as any animal, as long as the farmer keeps them in a big enough area. Even cattle and poultry will be unclean when kept in limited yards. Visit a packing plant, and you'll not wonder why there is E. Coli in your hamburger. Ask anyone who has a pot-bellied pig for a pet, how clean they are. I knew one family that had a hog that was house broken better than any dog or cat. If ANY animal is unclean, it's because the farmer crowds them into small enclosures, and overfeeds them.

Did I miss the part of the video where you explained what happened when you requested a kosher lunch and you were told to suck it up? Or did you mates just grab a lunch for you while you were out getting B-roll footage? Also, pretty much every animal in a commercial confinement operation spends its short life in filth, cows, pigs, chickens. The righteous indignation that I could feel coming from the previous lunch bag video doesn't really carry much weight considering I haven't seen the video series on sustainably pastured protein harvested on the wrangler star homestead.

In terms of animals that are or aren't clean, I own, pigs, chickens, turkeys, ducks and goats. Of all those animals the pig is the only one that will not defecate or urinate in their shelter. Pigs wallow in mud. You would also wallow in mud if asked to pack on the pounds and only sweat through your nose (they not only use the mud to cool down but to protect themselves from the sun as, like us, they have skin that is susceptible to sunburn.) Unfortunately not all pigs are properly kept and are not given a place to wallow other than where they defecate. That is due to a lack of true animal husbandry on the part of the owner. Pigs will indeed eat rotting carcasses. Chickens and turkeys will also. They will also thrive on the bugs that eat those carcasses. My chickens have their greatest moments when they find their way into the pigs domain and scratch through her feces to find little morsels of goodness, be they bugs or bits of grains. Shellfish are filter feeders and that's just not great considering the junk we put into our waterways, but as an indulgence, not different than a chocolate bar or fast food. I will do some research to see what health concerns pigs meat may contain, but I encourage you to do some research into how a pig actually lives if properly taken care of. I don't know where you get your meat, but if from costco or some other supermarket it may be much more unhealthy. Maybe do some research into grain fed beef and the fat differences it has when compared to grass fed (grass finished) beef. Also look into how poultry is most commonly being raised even the so called "free-range" variety. Real clean meat is the type you either raise yourself following the animals best interests or buy from another (often small) producer who does the same. As a meat and animal lover, I hope everyone finds a life giving meat they enjoy from an animal that enjoyed their life.

pigs are actually really tidy animals. there has been an experiment, where they put 8 pigs in an enclosure, with a predefined place to sleep for them and also a feeder somewhere else. the place, the pigs chose to put their "toilet", was the place with the greatest distance to both, their sleeping and eating place.

We thank God that the liturgical readings this week in the Christian church are Mark 7:14-23, as follows: What Defiles a Person 14 And he called the people to him again and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand: 15 There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.” 17 And when he had entered the house and left the people, his disciples asked him about the parable. 18 And he said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, 19 since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.) 20 And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

+Wranglerstar Cody, you know it's funny what you say about people asking things as "Oh, it's a Wednesday! Why aren't you working?!". This one Wednesday morning when I was home on leave from being overseas and I was getting my mom's car inspected for her. As I sit in the waiting area this older woman, maybe in her late 60's early 70's, asks me" what do you usually do on Wednesday mornings, if you aren't waiting in a mechanics lobby?'" I politely reply, that I am usually working on satellite communications systems and that I am home for a short time, enjoying my time off, and trying to be a good son and help my mom out. Her expression was almost priceless, she was taken aback a little from my response and quickly inserted foot into mouth and made the conversation about thanking me for my service and how her husband was in the military. The rest of the conversation was pleasant, but your words just reminded me of that story and gave me a chuckle.

I have never commented on a youtube video before and been a long time subscriber to the channel and have watched every video. But Cody your really spreading some false information about clean and unclean meats. Pigs are not dirty or disgusting animals, quite the opposite. If given enough space they are quite clean and will only defecate in one corner of there pasture/pen which will almost always be the farthest corner from there food and water. They do love the mud and will lay in the mud to stay cool and keep the flies away but not in there own feces. The same CANNOT be said for cattle, chickens or turkeys they will defecate everywhere including on/in there feeding areas. Also pigs will eat anything because they are omnivores just like chickens, turkeys and humans. You should learn a little about livestock before trying to inform people on a subject you obviously have very little and flawed knowledge of. ANY farm animal will be "unclean" if not given adequate space to live. Sure pigs raised on a 10x10 concrete stall will live a dirty nasty life. Have you every seen pigs raised on pasture like they are designed to do? They are very clean, active and healthy animals. Love the channel and I appreciate all the great videos, but I think your a little out of line on this. Everyone has the choice to eat or not eat what they want, but I don't think false information like this should be spread. Thanks again for all the videos! Just my .02

As far as consuming fecal matter I would only point out that a lot of vegetables are grown with fertilizer. lol and we know where that comes from. I do agree that if you're working that hard you should be given healthy lunches, especially paying that much per meal, or other options for people who can't eat that. All that being said I believe we can still be friends. Take care.

+Wranglerstar Not wanting to be a "wishy washy milk toast man" isn't an excuse for hypocrisy. Ducks and geese will bathe in and feed on mud, chicken will feed on the parasites inside manure if given the chance, most fowl feed on each other regularly. Plenty of fish are bottom feeders. Many that aren't will feed on the bottom feeders themselves. Cows will happily stroll around covered in their own feces, and are often fed other animal's remains, as well as on ample quantities of drugs. Shellfish and crustaceans are a key part of the Mediterranean diet, which is as healthy and well-balanced as it gets. You are entirely free to eat what most pleases you, and you don't need to justify yourself. "God says so and so I do" is not a morally reprehensible position. Trying to back yourself with ignorance is.

If this is supposed to be a discussion where people don't insult one another, why start using inaccurate and insulting terms like "unclean"? A simple statement of " its a meat I choose not to eat for religious reasons" would suffice. If we get into health reasons then we should be discussing peer reviewed science papers as the basis for the health risks of various animals.

Cody, I respect your decision on pork, but I have a question for you. I raise, for my family, a small number of pigs. They are a heritage breed, Hampshire, that I feed only corn and grain. They live on clean pasture and keep very clean. They deposit their waste in one corner of the pasture and do not wallow in it. I am aware that this is the exception to the norm, but would you object to eating pork raised in this way?

+Paul Greathouse Not really Paul, I grew up around Farms, my Uncle has Dairy cows and he had to always worm then cause they end up eating grass where they peed and pooped. Pigs ARE clean, very clean. If your pigs are dirty it's cause of the farmer, and lack of care. In Italy they roam fields, eat corn and do their business in a contained area. The issue is WAY back in the day, man didn't know about cleanness, and pigs would harbor a worm that id the meat was not cooked above 140 could infest the person who consumed it. Salt curing the meat killed them, and preserved the meat. I roomed with two theology majors in school. I was an engineer, but we discussed all sorts of stuff and this part came up. You know back then they thought the world was flat too. Bottom line, a pig is not the way he described in the video, and to be honest I know a lot of pig farmers that that statement would anger them greatly. Let an USDA inspector come to your farm and see your pigs eating and rolling in their own waste, and you are going to be shelling out a lot of money in fines.

The idea of a "levitican" and what made me sad is that Jesus came to this earth to scold and rebuff the "rule followers" and to create a new covenant with the whole world. He always had very harsh words for the people "going through the motions". Jesus' path was so hard to walk because you cannot hide behind dogma - you have to think for yourself, and listen to the teaching. Paul echoed this in Romans - by grace alone are you saved. To identify as a levitican is to completely miss the point of why Jesus came . Jesus was the last offering - the fulfillment of the previous law - the new covenant with humanity. And now 2000 years later most all Christians are Pharisees once again, trotting out Deuteronomy and Leviticus and ignoring the actual things Jesus said. As for Cody - he is not a "mixed clothing" or shady, however you all are implying. My guess is that this "Levitican" thing is some diet fad. If it is, it just has a really unfortunate name. Cody is a human, and I can tell from his podcasts and bible readings that he wrestles a lot with what it means to be a Christian on good faith.
@Bulletstop75
@Bulletstop75 9 жыл бұрын
+Colin Herbert Its the opposite, in fact. Dogma is ignoring obvious fallacies and misinterpretations and useless scripture because some people 400+ years after Jesus' death decided to lump them in with Jesus' teachings and call the book "Holy". Jesus was holy. The bible is just a book. Worship the real word, not the printed one. That's the faith - the faith that Jesus came to make the new covenant.

+TheTomtompiper Please read my repeated response to this very scripture farther up. I would entreat YOU to quit putting words in Jesus' mouth. Once again, look up the definition of "fulfill". Reread Romans. Look up what and who the Pharisees were. If you are a levitican, you are most certainly NOT a Christian. You are a jew. A jew who does not believe in the Messiah, or that he has come. Also, for future reference, if you are going to quote pieces of the Sermon on the Mount out of context you might want to read on to where Jesus most assuredly augments, changes and outright refutes prior rabbinical law. The key word is "fulfill". Jesus is the fulfillment. You are correct - Jesus IS pretty clear there, if you understand his message and who he was.

I've gone many hungry nights in the field and overseas because the only options were not healthy. If it is hot chow or an MRE I eat what I can (not much in an MRE) and I'm grateful for what I was able to eat. Over the years I've learned to always have my own assortment of snacks to supplement what the Army gives me. I suppose we shouldn't eat catfish either because they are a filthy animal as well they are a scavenger fish. In regards to shellfish being "unhealthy" I think you may be over exaggerating. Sure most shellfish have a higher cholesterol amount than most meats, but if eaten in moderation it is no worse than the next protein option. The average diet can handle 300 milligrams of cholesterol a day. 15 large shrimp have roughly 166 milligrams, and you could eat roughly 19 small clams and only have 60 milligrams. Also shellfish contain a good amount of B-12 which have been shown to help fight cancer growth. It also helps creation of heme, which is essential for the function of red blood cells. I my opinion (for what it is worth) the biggest "fear" in regards to shellfish is getting the product from less reputable providers. Since sometimes shellfish can contain some toxins that are dangerous for a person's nervous system. Crab and Lobster also tend to have a high sodium amount, but again eaten in moderation and a person should be fine.

so, here's the thing about pork. I am from iowa, the nations leading pork producer so that might leave me with a small bias, but also I have raised hogs for many years and it is not that their lack of cleanliness that makes their meat dangerous. It's worms, to be specific, roundowrms. Pigs have just about the same number of intestinal parasites as any animal but their diet is very similar to ours, anything we can eat they can eat is the general rule. Because we consume the same foods we also have a relativity similar digestive tract, this also means we are susceptible to the same intestinal parasites. Hogs generally aren't that dirtier than other animals, and in some parts of the world people even live less sanitary lifestyles than our pigs do. Unsurprisingly, the people there are plagued with the same problem. Back to parasites, parasites are transferred two ways, the first is the fecal oral route, in which a parasite lays several thousand eggs into the intestine, the eggs, which are tougher than nails (they have to be to survive the stomach) go out with the garbage and wait to be consumed by another animal and find their way to the intestine to start the process all over again. This can happen any number of ways, a commonly used example is when a dog steps in the poo of another dog one thing leads to another and when there are several hundred thousand eggs it's kind of a hard shot to miss. The other way is if the roundworm Burroughs its way into the muscle tissue and lays its eggs there. This becomes a problem when we slaughter and butcher said hog to make pork. One very simple way of effectively eliminating any and all eggs is cooking the meat to the proper internal temperature. Here's the fun part, a few thousand years ago, you ate pork that had been undercooked, in unsanitary conditions, you were likely to get your intestines clogged with worms which is incredibly unsettling (there are videos on the KZbin that will make you squirm). At the time the FDA wasn't really up and running yet so it was generally accepted that one didn't eat pork. Nowadays we understand that properly cooked pork is completely safe to eat. By the way wranglerstar I am a huge fan. You are a great guy. Love the videos.

Mr. Wranglerstar, on the topic of unclean meats, I think it all comes down to how it's prepared and how it's raised. In days of old, the raising of many animals (the unclean ones) was very, well, unclean; thus, it brought the old laws concerning unclean meat. However, as time has passed, cleaner and healthier methods have emerged to produce meat that's just fine (however I personally think we've backtracked a little bit). As a person who is of Asian descent, they've eaten unclean meats for many thousands of years, however they prepared it radically different than other peoples.

My one worry with pigs would be this: The Chinese have been eating pork for some 60000 years. And there are more Chinese than anyone else. Pork was not good in the Middle East, some 3500 years ago, because they had no fridges. They had no modern science. But I agree with you that if you want it, you eat it; and if you don't, you don't. Same with GMO's and other things. I'm not crazy about GMO's. But that chap over there, is. So.... He gets what he wants, and I get what I want. Now, if you do not want to eat pork, that's cool with me. I enjoy the odd bit of ham or bacon, but I could never eat it every day, same as I could not eat beef, or chicken, or fish every day. I like a good salad, too. But I would not want to eat that every day, either. I like moderation, and variety. As for whether some deity said to do something or not... I do not care there, either. There are plenty of religions around the world. And plenty more that have come and gone in history. You'd never be able to follow all the rules!
