Timnehs are the best! Yours has a really dark beak, I thought it is a mixture of CAG and TAG at first. But it looks 100% TAG just with a super dark beak. Nice bird.

Know what> He grows ONE very red feather out of his tail now and then and I often think I should have him spit in a tube and send the sample to Ancestry or 23andme :-) Great bird though. And he's a mind reader too. I can be on the other side of the house and as I'm slipping my sneakers on he'll say "Gonna go out!" Lots of other stuff too.

Can you make an update video on your Greater Jardines parrot now that it’s older? Would love to see what it looks like now

Unfortunately he died, totally unexpectedly. The Timneh s fine. Local vets were away for a long weekend when the Jardine began to do a cough / sneeze thing. He was dead on the third day.

Are there several types of Jardines, where «the greater jardine» is one? Are all rare/expensive? I have dreamt of a (preferably male)Timneh for quite a while. I must admit that I have fallen for them (and also researched of course)... But, funny enough, one of a few others that I fell for, are Jardines. Did you see the super cute ones in an LA bird store called Monkey? In addition to the green, it also has some red feathers. It is just soooo cute and charming, but is not for sale. It is in some of Marlene Mc’Cohen’s vids... 😊

Ours is a black wing, which is the nominate of the species.

Oh! We bought the Jardine as a young bird, just cracking seed and I was told he was a greater, but he is not.

@@TwinMountain is he a lesser? P.g.gulielmi also known as the Black Wing Jardine in the US. I have a 18month parent reared one in the uk. Amazing birds, would love to see an updated video

@@jardinejax5303 He is a black wing. He talks non-stop. Very needy bird. He wants to be with one of us at all times.
@imogeninc.929011 ай бұрын
@@jardinejax5303 Certainly looks more like a lesser than a black wing! I'd hazard a guess at that being the case, as well. Edit: the eyering and wing look more like a lesser than a blackwing. Larger eyering, much less black on the wing. scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.18172-8/13217563_882258195219526_8652575465068354343_o.jpg?_nc_cat=107&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c2f564&_nc_ohc=pl9Q6KRjufkAX-Mr_9-&_nc_ht=scontent-sea1-1.xx&oh=00_AfCaRNpoQDosHQZ5lKm1bjwfdD894G6FEdZzB3pXg2JACw&oe=6591EBB6

I've been to that pet store also. All those African Greys out of the cage. Better than the zoo.

I'm having trouble deciding which of these parrots I should get. I like the fact that these are pretty independent birds and therefore can handle someone who works full-time given they get 2-3 hours of interaction and have ample amounts of good toys. I know the African Grey is a better talker but....isn't it less cuddly than your Jardine? I know it can be as playful as a Jardine though...please let me know which of these you prefer overall.
@TwinMountain6 жыл бұрын
Cuddly? Our Jardine is, in my opinion, overly dependent upon human contact. Greys also do not like being left alone for long periods of time. Either of these species can become feather pluckers if left alone for long periods and it certainly sounds like you'll be leaving yours alone for long periods of time.Honestly, if you are away all day five days a week, I'd pas on either of these birds. Were you home all day (I work from my home and I'm married to a bird lover) I'd say go for the Timneh but under the circumstances, I'd think about raising finches. I have raised a few species of finch in the past but I liked the Java Rice Birds best.
@Eddielevit6 жыл бұрын
Carl Favorito well i was told by a breeder that its more about the quality of time spent rather than quantity. The parrot would be home alone for 7 hours since for one hour my aunt can come visit. The bird will also have toys to entertain himself. This can still be ok?
@TwinMountain6 жыл бұрын
I have to say no. These are not birds that should be left alone much. They are very sociable and do tend to be feather pluckers. How about this? An Indian Ringneck. They are less needy.

Hi there how do i figure out if my Timneh is a male or female? pls
@kasaundras_life5 жыл бұрын
DNA test is the best way! Go to your avian vet and they will send in a sample to the laboratory :) Thats how I have sexed all of my birds. There are also tests you can get online and take a blood sample at home yourself and then mail back to their lab.

Hell no. This morning he got cut up baby carrots, cut up red grapes, some apple, a piece of my omelette, some shredded cheddar cheese and he always gets pellets, both LaFeber's Nutri-Berries and LaFebers pellets.

It is a total Myth and Fantasy that a Male human should only get a Female parrot. Don't know who told you this but they are totally wrong.
@lottatroublemaker61305 жыл бұрын
Well, not all agree on that. There are different opinions... A long time ago, I adopted a Nymph Cockatoo (-tiel) from a home where she had the dad as her favorite, she was as «his bird», but it did not take long for her to be equally much friends of my BF and I. So often it is about taking time with them, I think... ☺️
@lottatroublemaker61305 жыл бұрын
Does he (Morgan) call you Carlos? He said Carlos + something I couldn’t hear... ☺️ Don’t you think many have had birds and when a certain person of the opposite sex is the one being in charge of the bird and uses a lot of time on it, they will always support that myth and also tell others who are getting a bird that they should get one of the opposite gender. Over time it becomes «the truth», while people like me, who bought/adopted a female who loved the dad/grandpa of her first family (she was bought for a little boy, who was expected to take care of her, clean the cage etc - NEVER A GOOD IDEA). She spent most of her time with the grandpa and I remember they said it seemed like she liked men better. But it didn’t take long before she liked my BF and I the same and eventually I became her main person, even if I am female and the same gender as she was. I think that people who experience the opposite, just don’t air it, so the myth is alive and well.
