Leftovers on Heracross is the standard though, so not sure what you mean. Band has its uses but is greatly limiting on mons that aren't immune to sandstorm or spikes already. Even Medicham prefers Lefties more nowadays because it becomes much harder to play around.

Gen 3 has a pretty interesting rule when it comes to physical attackers. The stronger you are, the more weak you are to passive damage and the harder it is to stick around. By strength, im not just talking about attack stats, but also move bp and stab type. On one end there's aero, who is immune to both sand and spikes, but compare to the psuedos and hera it has a far lower attack stat that basically required cb. It stabs are also rather weak with 75 rockslide and 70 hp flying. The three psuedos; ttar, mence and grosse, share the same problem with a weak stab (except for grosse, but we'll get to that) and are all immune to only one sand or spikes, making them easier to wear down. But their naturally higher attack stats allows them to use other items than cb, but they become destructive with cb. Now grosse does has a high attack stat and a high base power move in meteor mash, but its steel stab means that bulky waters and skarmory can resist its attacks, though it can potentially get through with a lucky attack boost or explosion. Then there is hera, whose is without question not just a glass Canon, but a glass tactical nuke. It is weak to both sand and spikes, so sets without leftovers can be outlasted, but it wont be without causties. Its attack is 10 points lower than the psuedos, but where they suffer from weak moves and stab, hera is here with 120 megahorn that whallops waters and a 150 focus punch that even skarm needs to respect. It also has access to swords dances and two abilites that can increase its power even more at the cost of health.

Been really enjoying Gen 3. I dipped into it for a couple of months now since Gen 9 got too turbulent and frankly having to keep track of so many Pokémon and Moves gets pretty exhausting after a few games. Heracross has been a surprise staple on my Porygon2 teams. While risky (and debatably not too viable), Endure Salac has been good at dealing with Dugtrios for times I feel like ditching the plastic ducky. Gen 3 really does let you play around with silly sets and its nice to run dumb stuff and still have a somewhat viable team. Gen 9 lately has been feeling a bit to suffocating.

Two of my favorite breakers are Mamoswine and Heracross. They are healthy additions to any metagame without being dishonestly powerful like modern metas would often introduce. Heracross does cool things. Fighting is generally great for breakers, and the bug type complements it to handle the common psychic type counter to fighting. But it isn't a guaranteed kill because poison and flying are still natural counters to the STABs. It's a balanced breaker that isn't pure min/maxed.

Heracross is by far my favorite Mon in the tier. Adamant Hera with the sub salac has won me so many games that were lost otherwise. If setup properly by removing physical checks, megahorn after an SD and swarm proc is so beautiful. Seeing suicune die in one hit without an explosion is feral. The elation on my face when I clicked focus punch with my guts heracross in front of a blissey who had just clicked toxic and shot my attack up to obscene heights, only fueling its eggstinction… insane.

One thing I’ve noticed about gen 3 ou is that both healing and powerful stab moves are both pretty limited in this gen. This makes for a game where bulky offense is probably the most powerful strategy, as stall just doesn’t have the healing to keep up with constant threats, but hyper offense doesn’t have the strength to ko everything before dying. This does look like a more fun game at large, because there’s a lot more pressure to make good predictions to gain edges, but there’s a bit less of a threat to end the game immediately. It sounds like a refreshing change of pace
