watching the SEC win it all almost every year makes me really appreciate these games. These are one of the few teams that would've blasted the SEC back in the day.

It wasn't even close. In the 4th QTR Vince just took over. Passing and running. This year Clemson's Watson was close but he did not have VY's stats.

This was probably the most hyped game of all time also, from Texas vs Michigan at the Rose Bowl the year before, only barely missing out on playing for the championship. With USC's two straight titles, and Texas ending the previous season with a last second win against a very good MIchigan team, at the beginning of the season everybody was already talking about this championship game. They were #1 and #2 preseason if I remember correctly. This is also one reason why this was one of the best. It was hyped and hyped for almost an entire year, and then lived up to that hype and more with such a great caliber game. Great offense, strong defensive stands, some forced turnovers, and very few mistakes.

I'm almost 39 and this is by far the best CFB game I have ever seen in my life. If you go back and remember that season, SC and UT were #1 and #2 all year and it clearly was a clash of the titans. That 4th and goal Vince Young scramble at the end still gives me goose bumps and I'm a Hog fan to boot!!

I was in Boot camp MCRD San Deigo funny enough but my family sent me clippings of the Horns dominance all year and when this newspaper article came to me in the mail it was complete greatness. I graduated 3 days after the win. It just made it so much more memorable.

I can't believe this game was almost 10 years ago this coming January 2016. I was a senior in High School. This is probably the greatest football game I've ever seen pro or college. The hype, the players, overall 2005 was an awesome year in college football. This was a classic, and it will be sometime before something tops this.

I hated football all through high school, and my freshman year at UTSA I didn't care about it either. I transferred to UT Austin my sophomore year, living in West Campus, and remember watching every game with my friends who explained what was going on and why certain plays were made and the ways formations work and how timeouts are used and such and after about halfway through the season once I really understood the game well enough I was hooked. Also all the partying on the drag and in West Campus after every game was fantastic too. Then there was this game, and that sealed the deal for me that football is the best sport. That final touchdown with Vince just walking the ball in for the touchdown... you could hear the entire city erupt in cheer. The Drag got so full of students partying in the street that the cops had to block the intersections at 24th (or maybe 26th, I forget) / Guadalupe and MLK / Guadalupe for a few hours until the revelers had mostly left and it was safe to let cars through again. It was amazing. I've watched plenty of football since then but this specific game (and really, the whole season) was really something else.

Well yea they went wild They beat a Trojan team who was in their 3rd straight National championship(1st time ever) With a 34 game winning streak(not losing in 3 years) And 2 heisman trophy winners on offense)(1st time ever) Usc was 19 seconds away from becoming the greatest collage football team of all time no matter how they were assembled.

VY is one of the best to ever play college ball and not win a Heisman. I remember watching this - unreal. Still the best game I've ever seen.
@zachjones265410 жыл бұрын
I would say he's pretty definitely the best to not win the Heisman.
@KinnereyB10 жыл бұрын
Yeah. He got jobbed that year Bush won it. It's bc USC was the Alabama of CFB back then. But VY was an unstoppable collegiate player. If Fisher would have backed him, he might have had a longer stint in the pros. That's a different discussion though. Hope I didn't open a can of worms with that!

Usc With a 34 game winning streak Back to back heisman trophy winners 3rd straight national championship This was a heart breaking loss to me as a usc fan but it's the greatest game I've ever seen. Little mistakes cost usc its 3rd straight.. And first team to ever almost successfully do it... Just by 3 points...

Rostow Makaveli The Don And as a Longhorn fan it was also the best game in history! Frankly, I've spoken to non-partisan CFB (I have friends who are alums of UTEP and New Mexico lol - so they are unbiased FOR SURE). Everyone I know says the same thing, greatest game ever. IMO, Vince should have won the Heisman that year. It was neck and neck all year with him and Reggie statistically - Vince just did some magical things that year under pressure. I think Reggie won it when he did that run with that crazy cutback and scored - I think on a kickoff? That was his "Heisman Monent." VY had multiple 200/200 games (which is insane with the comp both our teams faced that year). He also had a 200/200 Rose Bowl the previous year vs Michigan and brought us back and eventually down the field for the win in that game too. He was just clutch. Our teams were so equal. There just no answer for Vince and for whatever reason he was one of those guys where the game slows down the more the pressure is on. That 4th and 8 you guys had the perfect D called - just no one to account for the guy who rushed for more than double Reggie! Those were the days bro...now we are garbage and you guys are just one of those teams in the top 25 but WAAAY better than us. Not anything special though. What happened? We are Texas and USC dammit! There are literally 3 teams in our STATE that are better than us! Inexcusable! And you guys have 2 teams in the same recruiting area better than you (Oregon and UCLA). We need to kick the hell out of the SEC and get back to where we belong - the top. I would LOVE to see the two of us in a CFB Playoff game or Final in a few years. Until then - memories...

Congratulations, Paul G. This is the first time I've seen a You Tube piece that captured the beauty of this game. Most submissions have shown only Texas highlights, glossing over how close this game was, and how intensely played. IF Lendale White had picked up 3 more inches on that 4th down play, we wouldn't be remembering this game. I have been watching college football for many years. I love Texas. I love USC more. Vince Young is one - if not the best - quarterback to ever play the game - when you consider the entire package. I am not a Texas fan - but one has to give credit where credit is due. What happened to the guy in the pros? Now they say he lost all of his 26 million - well after taxes - he would have approximately 16 million - but that still is a lot of money to let someone steal from you. These financial advisors should be put in jail. I could have managed this guys money better & honestly.

Wow. That transition from Mack to that shot of Coach Royal really got me, genuinely moved and misty eyed there. Texas is a living legacy. A legacy of all who have come before and for the present to leave something for the future to be proud of for their time and thus around we go the great circle of life. Needless to say, the 2005 Longhorns not only cement their individual place in history (which we all know they did), they honored the legacy of the Royal teams and all Longhorns before them and it doesn't get any more special than that, my friends! #RIPDKR #RoyalIsTexas #TexasIsRoyal LOL and they call soccer "the beautiful game" (no hate for soccer though.) In all honesty, not at all just being a blind fanboy but there are 3 "greatests" here. The Greatest Game I've ever seen in Texas vs. USC. Greatest individual College football player ever in #10 Vince Young (controversial statement I know but never have I seen a more clutch, irresistible force at QB in the college game. EVER. He was just on another level and at the end of the day, I just wouldn't want anyone else thats ever played out there with the game on the line, with a National Championship on the line against an undefeated "unbeatable" opponent for my team. I'd take him in that situation over anybody, any day of the week. And lastly, Greatest individual team I've ever seen in the 2005/06 Texas Longhorns. Really with the same logic as VY, if I had to win a Championship with any single team, I wouldn't have it any other way. #InVINCEable #TexasForever
