Everyone says that they would act the most logical but history has proven that EVERYONE who is put in these situations will act the same. There's never stories of groups of people who after feeling such pain act rationally

People don't understand the long term effects of starvation and cruelty have on the brain. Most people literally don't even have the brain functions to be rational anymore after living so long in those conditions.

Buh! I don’t blame the Philippinos! Buh! Yeah as far as I’m concerned the Philippines were occupied but not actually conquered since the guerrillas never stopped fighting them. In Europe a lot of the resistance was mostly sabotage and spy type stuff whereas in the Philippines there never really was a complete stop in combat it just got really small and scattered. Also I’d like to say the General Swing was a cool guy. He catches his guys stealing a generator? Doesn’t punish them or make them take it back he tells them to install it in his area. H sees exactly how effective Vanderpools guerrillas are against the Japanese and lets him have all the ammo he wants.

That's just how the pacific was, especially until America was able to actually cross a entire ocean to go really hit back. The reason it was so bad for so long is that America has to build the military industrial complex that is so infamous now firing this time from scratch. It is the same reason that America refuses to spend less money on the military. Every American has the understanding that no matter what stupid thing you do, you'll have the backing of the us govt to work with you wherever you are in the world, and in exchange we just pay a lot of money to protect the rest of the world, and the rest of the world generally understands and accepts it. That's why there was no trials for Abu Ghraib or for splitting Osama had open like a coconut even though those are "war crimes". Don't be evil and you won't be treated evilly, Geneva won't protect anyone when humans get mad

The world's attention at the time was focused on the atrocities committed by Germany when Japan was actually just as cruel and in some aspects even worse

It was different with Japan. Japan was never Christian so many would not be expected to know that they better do the right thing so in that way they were a little less guilty because they thought evil was just a way of life that people just all chose to follow. Japan did not treat its own good. There was no way they would know how to treat others. Germany did have Christians. Germany at a time should have knew what it was doing. It let itself get immoral. It let bad people get in. Then they decided they would follow the government rather than God. Thats why they are guilty. They are more clearly guilty when you remember where the first half of the Christian bible came from and who Germany was going after. Japan just attacked all foreigners all the time. They never had the people that could teach and tell them to do right and not wrong because everyone there was a bad example. Germany had good that could be seen at one point and chose many chose not to be. The US really had the most real Christians at the time and forgiving is their way of life. The Europe was what had the problem. The British did not have enough serious Christians. Many French were not really Christian at all despite saying they were plus the ones that were again mostly not serious Christians. The red army was full of Athiest. The further that way they go away from Christianity the less forgiving they get. Japan was let off because of this though for that forgiveness thing Christians do however the US did not really get a chance to teach morals since the cold war was comeing up Americans realised they needed Japan to not to be thinking about what they did in China or really anywhere because they did not have all the moral fortitude needed to tell who was right between the US and China plus Ussr. That just means their morals are still a missing huge chunks today but with the new government the problem is not as bad as in Imperial Japan.

“The US should have nuked an unpopulated area” I respect the kind hearts of modern day… but after the first nuke dropped and The Empire chose not to surrender… then obviously nuking a random unpopulated area would not convince Imperial Japan to surrender. The second bombed city didn’t even convince them to surrender. According to the Imperial Japanese records, they didn’t see the difference between the normal bombs wiping out the cities vs a nuke destroying a city. They decided to surrender only because the Russians were on their way and surrendering to the USA was going to be less unpleasant than surrendering to the Soviets. Wise choice because Modern Japan and Modern USA = ❤

There were those who did suggest an early end to the war, but never in the unconditional surrender that the allies wanted. And the bombs did make them concerned, but only because they didn't know how many the US had, making some afraid that the US might have the capability to "wipe out the Japanese people as a race and nation" rather than individual cities.

@@warbacca1017 yes, something along the lines of The USA having the capability and The Soviets having the will to end them as a people. Especially if the US could convince themselves that wiping out cities with nukes was less cruel than the firebombings… Nuke’s definitely contributed to things. But in and of themselves, not enough. If considering soviet documents, the nukes being proven real to Stalin motivated him to try and advance the date/time table to claim as much territory in Japan as possible before Japan could surrender to the USA. In that sense, even the portion of the imperial surrender motivated by soviet advance can be considered also partially due to the nukes.

@@TheGelatinousSnake That wasn't the reason the U.S. dropped the nukes, there was no "convincing ourselves that nukes would be less cruel than firebombing." The reason they did it is because after the absolute slaughter that was the Pacific Islands campaign, especially Iwo Jima and Okinawa, they knew that trying to invade mainland Japan was going to be even worse. They actually minted so many purple hearts specifically for that one invasion that for literal decades after, all of the purple hearts given out in other conflicts had been minted for the invasion of Japan. It wasn't so much the thought of trying to spare the Japanese population in any way at all by using one massive show of force rather than constant firebombing. It was all about trying to save as many American lives as possible by trying to avoid invading Japan directly.
