We have 25 solar rechargeable walkway lights. They can be used as indoor lighting and as chargers for the rechargeable batteries used in other items. A Faraday bag works better than a cage for small items like batteries and solar powered chargers.

Most old microwave ovens can be used as a faraday cage. You can pick them up cheap at yard sales, flea markets and similar places. To test them, put your cellphone inside and have a companion call it. If it does not ring, the microwave is good to use as a faraday cage. Good stuff Sarge. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Macc. It's situational, in your case, I am guessing most people were still home? During Hurricanes, the city is about 75% evacuated. Of the 25% who don't leave, some are the bad guys looking for a quick B&E. By projecting presence, it has driven them to other neighborhoods, easier targets. Now... in a long term situation? I would definitely stay stealthy

Phase 1 (16 panels) and phase 2 (Battery Backup) were done by SunPro Solar - fantastic company to work with. Phase 3 (8 additional panels) was done by ADT Solar - avoid doing any business with them - have unresolved BBB complaint against them

Yeah I like the small portable ones and portable panels. If money was no object, I would consider roof panels and deep cycle batteries but for our purposes a portable system handles lost of our emergency needs

Interesting video Sarge and I’m with you. I have solar options, usb battery chargers and umpteen rechargeable AA and AAA batteries. I’m awaiting a 100ah leisure battery too that will act as an emergency power supply for my radios etc. I’ll be charging it via solar and a charge controller and will also hook up a usb outlet to it so I can charge the AA and AAAs from it too. I also have quite a few usb battery banks too. The more options the better!..atb rom the UK mate, Mark
