I was always impressed the game had a pretty sizable playable cast spanning from the obvious main characters to minor ones like Mogar and Lord Pain. Outside of the special, Jack only shows up in a very brief cameo in Big Boogey's Adventure (likely cause it released around the same time as the game, even using the same exact art of Jack in both.) So it made me SUPER happy as a kid to see them actually bring him back even if just for the game.

Was the knight that killed Jack really short? Cos it seems weird that he'd mistake a kid in a costume for him, though Jack seems to have ptsd and might freak out at anyone who reminds him of his death. Also i like how Jack becomes his old self again the more he laughs at Irwin setting off the pranks, and even in the underworld he's still laughing, happy as a clown, all bitterness gone.
@balanc-joy91873 жыл бұрын
You hit it right on the head pretty much. Jack is _so_ terrified of the very _idea and memory_ of the knight who killed him, that the fact Irwin was in a costume that resembled him made Jack _see_ him as that knight more than he was really. Thus, we as the audience saw it that same way. I've seen examples of it in fiction before, where someone is _so_ scared their brain makes up more of what they're scared of out of sheer terror. The one that comes to my mind is a minor character in a story that's about a writer who's dark crime fiction pen name comes to life and starts killing people, the minor character, who has also been a fan of those dark books, comes upon a gruesome murder which understandably puts her in a total freak-out, and starts thinking "This is _just_ like in those novels..." and when she hears the door shut behind her, she whirls around and briefly thinks she sees the murderous criminal in the novels coming at her, in gruesome detail...before she realizes it was only the door closing. More happens after that when she realizes _why_ it closed, but the murderer coming at her was all in her head, but it's described that she really did seem to _see_ that happening.

Despite just how dark this Halloween special is, I still love re-watching it every Halloween (along with Hocus Pocus). I really would've loved to see Jack return in other episodes of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.

The first few seasons of Billy & Mandy was dark but mid 00's they made the show more comedic.

if you thought invader zim was scary, you never saw "the misadventures of flapjack" also on cartoon network. Seriously though, that thing was both weird and terrifying. I have a love-hate relationship with it scaring me but also preparing me for the biggest scare of all.... reality.

Not only is this my favorite Halloween special, this is my favorite episode of Billy & Mandy. Jack was just such a cool looking character with both a great design and a great voice.

Billy and Mandy and Ed, Edd n Eddy were my two favorite shows growing up and they really shaped my humor to what it is today. I loved how Billy and Mandy had all this dark subject matter but showed it in a bright and colorful way that made light of it and is one of the reasons that I can find humor in just about any situation which helps me stay calm and think straight. Ed, Edd n Eddy really stuck out to me as a kid because I've always loved mob and greaser movies with Good fellas and the outsiders being some of my favorites and Eddy's scams always felt very in line with that mindset even if only in a very juvenile way compared to those films. Plus my Dad was always doing little jokes on me and my sister growing up and in a lot of ways those jokes helped me learn to think for myself and think about what's going on around me and with Eddy I've always saw some of that mindset in him and I love how he would come up with these outlandish ideas that are actually really good and he could have profited if he wasn't so focused on ripping people off and his friends are with him through thick and thin.

Loved the show, but sadly never seen this special. But a few key episodes stick out in my head, the one with the singing brain eating alien and the spider that Billy hatched and it kept calling him dad even though Billy is terrified of spiders. This show and others really stood out so well. The Ed’s , GAB&M, Courage, Power Puff Girls, etc

I absolutely loved this show as a kid. Same with Courage the Cowardly Dog, Flapjack. Cartoon Network was gold back then

Loved this series growing up, same for those old fully animated commercial shorts we used to get with these. I think my favorite was the whole cross over saga when Mandy literally took over the KND. This is one series i would love to potentially see come back, even if all we got was a movie. Great episode!

I’m glad you mentioned Harem Scarem, I spent a good number of hours playing that game and I recall once accidentally finding a glitch that let you skip through levels.

What's even creepier is that at the end of the special when Jack is in hell and the demons are all pissed off, when the credits end you can hear a splat sound hinting they crushed his head.

This special was beaten over my head as a child playing almost year round. I preferred Underfist which is criminally underrated. Also the Christmas special which I rewatch each year.

Have you forgotten this show's sister? Evil Con Carne? Hector's "death" in that show when his body is exploded into brain and stomach is one of the most gruesome scene ever shown in a "kids" show
