Yes the scream is real. It's roughly 30 seconds on the album recording and he almost passed out recording it. On their tour this year he holds that scream for roughly 20 seconds. Impressive for a guy in his 50s.

Wow! Did he actually almost pass out? I’ve never heard that fact before… Do have a source for that info?

There is a live video of this from the late 90s early 2000s where he does the entire scream live. Nowadays after a couple of bouts of covid he just did grudge in Orlando a few months ago and we still got a solid like 15 16 seconds of a scream even after all these years and two bouts of covid.

The scream lasts for about 1 sec per year of the Saturn astronomy/mythology/astrology alluded to in the lyrics (~29 Earth years = 1 Saturn year).

@@crystalscolza1663 ppl keep mentioning the live video where he does it in haven't found jack methinks he either did almost pass out or the recorded scream was tweaked

It was definitely real, then. The scream you're hearing today at the shows is for sure lengthened with effects, but MJK absolutely gets a pass since he's all but destroyed his vocal chords with these screams.

Once in a lifetime band. You need to listen to entire albums. You are missing out because these are OLD SCHOOL concept LP'S. Interludes, Segues, Hidden Tracks, Backward Messages, Incredible Album Art, Meaningful Lyrics, Incredible Musicianship, Incredible Engineering. Who does that anymore? TOOL DOES. Subscribed to watch your brain MELT. Listen in chronological order from the first EP to their last LP. 🤞✌️

Pallet cleansers. I like that that's a great way to describe the little transitions. It'll get so hard and so rough the music and then it's just ease up and let you calm down and breathe for a minute before it slaps you in the face again.

At this point, I'd say this is about as central as you can come in Tool's discography. The earliest raw short burst songwriting style is mostly left behind and used sporadically, and the evolution made in prog and psychedelic coming to a head. I love a lot of different kinds of music, but I can't name any other band that I feel enhanced every facet of my life than Tool.

This is off their 3rd album when to me they started to go full prog rock. It’s my favorite album of theirs and to me a great blend between what they were and what they became.

Appreciating your reactions to Tool, it great to watch someone who is really appreciating them and not just watching them to get their viewing figures up. Recently saw them 3 times in 1 week and MJK hit that controlled scream/note consistently everytime. Pushit-Salival Live Version, others react to the studio version, but very few to this, which I think is the better version. A truely beautiful live version of the song, MJK truely at his emotional peak, as far as Tool songs. A Perfect Circle is where you will find most of his emotional lyrics, and there's also Puscifer, coming to a town near you in Europe 2023.

Haha. Well right now it definitely is wall art. I've recently dropped some hot noiseless pickups in an old mim strat so my epi g-400 doesn't get played as much. Loving the strat a little more for the versatility and the scrrrreaming bridge pickup. They were made for jeff beck so im having a lot of fun messing around with tone. My g-400 is also very neck heavy and I'm always adjusting the strap. So yea its wall art now.

What I dig on this song (along with the palate cleansers!) is they always return to that main grudge “riff”. They all take turns with it from percussion to guitars. It complements the lyrics perfectly in that it always clings to you, it’s hard to lose it. Plus it helps ground you with all the progressions and transitions. More please! And beware of music videos. It’s a whole nother 4th- level experience that distracts from the audio experience.
