So hey, patch notes are in the video description so check them out! I will need to get my hands on nu-pot before I feel actually good or bad about the changes but man... its certainly different. First initial gut feeling was they killed him, but theres some other stuff so we will see. Still though, characters like Potemkin and Ramlethal, changing such core aspects of the characters that are effectively fundamental to how they work, and doing so so late in the game with Strive being years old now? Its some crazy stuff

Playing on pad I never managed to do a kara back megafist or a kara garuda, but kara buster and kara forward megafist were kinda easy to do and quite valuable. I feel a bit worried.

@@_garicas armor is short for super armor where an attack just simply flat out prevents flinching from x number of most types of attacks for a certain window during the attack. in this case it's preventing enemies from causing pot from snapping out of his buster start up when hit just before he lands the command grab.

It's okay for a technique to be difficult but intended and thus something to grind towards learning and then mastering, it's not okay to just completely remove the skill ceiling on a character by removing such a technique in order to baby those who can't do it.

You *can't* make the kara timing easier without fundamentally changing how karas work. They're a universal mechanic, there is no Pot-specific "adjust karas here" button.

I really wish we could get snapshots at the end of each season, sort of how fighting games used to work with Arcade Edition, Ultra, Revelator, Rev 2, etc. I think I like what I see in these patch notes, but I might not. I didn't especially like season 2 of Strive, and I would have loved to still have access to season 1 back then. Drastic changes like this can easily mean that they're taking away something a lot of people like.

The game does have glaring issues outside of that though based on some really in depth reviews I've watched but it also has some good stuff as well so I think it's a very mixed bag. Ram got her kneecaps kicked out. No early pick up for the swords is so rough. On the other hand, Baiken getting to parry in your blockstring makes me so happy. Good ol' Xrd days of enemies ending their combos early or throwing gaps in there because they are scared to get hit by the parry are back!

I’m not too stoked about the baiken parry. It got really nerfed in July since you can’t RC out of it even when connected. Before you could grab DPs but now 50% of the DPs can be grabbed but her Hiiragi was ALWAYS able to be grabbed (unless you messed up on the timing) so it basically got the DP nerf plus a mechanics nerf on top. Now it seems that if you do parry on the middle of a block string instead of triggering the slam for guaranteed damage /reversal it just puts the in GC state like parrying from a distance, which you would do dash RC to close the gap. Now you have to dash cancel it while they’re in GC state and it’ll lead into a possible mix. But it’s no longer guaranteed. Seems pretty ass when you still got characters that’ll pop out a DP during a block string and get away with it.

Someone said it best “Removing Kara from Pot is like removing wavedash from Mishimas” also changing inputs (both motions and buttons) ruins it for me. I just grasped the concept and was able to do it sometimes in training mode so now I guess that time is useless. Might change characters tbh.

Hmmm, nah, that seems overstated tbh. Mishimas have had wavedashes since Tekken 3 in 1997 - Potemkin only got 6K in Xrd and that only became Kara cancelable in Strive. Pot has existed longer without Kara than with. (Not saying that I agree with the change or anything, but y'know)

As an Axl player, I don't know how to feel about the change to Rensen's input. It's technically a buff as it allows him to do many things he couldn't and makes some of the trickier things more manageable, and I am happy for that. But it's like making Sonic Boom a fireball motion after decades of being a charge motion. It's may not be as drastic as Pot or Ram, but it does feel kind of...earth-shaking. Changing Axl Bomber from DP to fireball is one thing, but charge to motion is indeed interesting...

@@invertebradomotion vs charge simply have different aspects. Motion inputs come with the harder execution barrier, charge inputs leaves you at risk of losing charge if you aren’t careful. I wouldn’t say one is better than another objectively, they are just different.

As someone who played pad, I never had an issue pulling a Kara-cancel off, and I was introduced to the concept in Strive. Its a shame, because it was fun to do as someone who casually played Pot. Having the option to Kara or not made casual matches fun as hell with the robbery you could do This makes him feel more boring, regardless if its a buff or not

I think people are panicking WAY too much. Yes, there are drastic changes - but they aren't all bad. We'll be losing a lot of old mechanics we're used to, but in exchange we'll be getting _armored Potbuster,_ longer range Potbuster, better Garuda pressure in the corner, the ability to freely combo into Potbuster from BWA stagger, etc. Let's not doom before the patch even comes out, guys.

From the matches I've played there's practically no use cases for armored potbuster. I'd rather have the kara buster since the range was a lot better. Losing half your mega fists gives you less options and BMF also has less frame advantage on block, lots of his moves got increased recovery or startup too so Potemkin requires more commitment and is easier to punish. Slide head funnily enough got damage and a guard crush so I wonder how that will be and Pot's flick can now reflect most projectiles but lets be honest it should have done that from the beginning. Overall they made him easier to play but needing to relearn him and overwriting the muscle memory is going to tedious. The main thing is people want to enjoy the character. Losing the ability to kara cancel into a round start pot buster is unfortunate, losing a lot of skill expression and extra options means the most tuned players will feel less rewarded for their efforts as it was literally thrown out the window. It's only day 1 of the changes so maybe I'll change my mind later but it's understandable that Pot mains feel the way they do.

How quickly the enfranchised players forget that Strive is ArcSys’s most successful GG game ever by a WIDE margin, due in large part to its increased accessibility. I’m glad more people will feel encouraged to try Potemkin now that they don’t have to worry about this tech. Hell I’ve been playing on and off since launch and I didn’t know what kara-cancelling was until this week

Im so sad about the kara cancel removal. If you asked me to name the two coolest things to execute on Potemkin it would be kbmf combos and hfb into super and now both are gone. It's not about it being a buff or nerf, kara canceling was genuinely just fun and very satisfying.

I really dislike the idea that they must tone down hard execution in fighting games. I am by no means great at fighting games. But I loved playing C.Viper and trying her cancels. Even if I couldn't do them consistently, it felt good when I did do them. It gives satisfaction to the player to be able to do something that is difficult to do. And it is really hype when you see a top tier player do it on the big stage. Taking away Pot's kara really feels like it is for the casual audience. But I do have to wonder what casual player is still playing this game. I would have assumed the casuals moved to something else by now.

I casually picked up strive as my first guilty gear closer to when the game first came out and have been on and off since but what the hell. why did they change heavenly buster? Is literally a harder input. same with heat tackle, hcf is way easier than a dp motion if you ask me in strive since dp leniency is way lower in strive than streets. So I don't really get it, are they changing inputs to make it "easier", if so they did the opposite whilst also ruining everyone's muscle memory lol.

As for HPB change though, quite dumb overall, maybe they wanted to simplify it for newer players so they just need to do backwards half circle forward for both supers but its a weird decision.

@@freshlymemed5680 Even then, they could have just moved Heat Tackle off of H and make it 41236 K. Even 236 K. DP inputs are just annoying enough already. Changing HPB to be 632146S and then changing FDB to 214K is what's extra weird. You change one move, then it's too close to another and then change that move. Just make HPD 632146 K and then all's well. I think it is better than double quarter circle, but changing FDB in the crossfire's weird.

Seems like garuda impact also isn't gonna be the cornerstone of potemkin's pressure anymore, the rework makes it so all roads lead to potemkin buster, and with apparently longer recovery on slide head, potemkin is gonna take a whole more lot risks, but to compensate you get armor on pot buster once you've fought your way into that position. As a pot main i'm mostly just intrigued about how this is gonna play out, but i appreciate the rework nonetheless

Correction: Kara Back Mega Fist is quite different from normal Back Mega Fist: 6 more frames of recovery making it -2 instead of +4 Does 80 damage instead of 50 Bounces the opponent higher on airborne hit making kBMF loops possible It's practically it's own move

With the Ram changes it really feels like I might never be incentivized to throw the swords lol before I wanted to use them in the corner now if I can avoid ever tossing them my damage will be better off. This is just speculation of course but honestly unless it is super consistent at getting my combos going or dealing huge damage then I'd rather find any combo route that avoids the sword toss since I'm given so little reward for losing my best tools for significant time

The changes of values for Guts and Defense Modifier is Huge especially for characters like Chip (who also from AC to ACPR got his guts changed from none to 4), Dizzy now has 5 GUTS which is crazy considering she only had 1 guts forever, and almost everyone is more durable with one of the major exceptions being Slayer who will have his guts decreased from 3 to 1 (though they decreased damage mod from 0.97 to 0.92, he’ll be more fragile and the damage he’ll receive lower than 70% won’t be reduced that much). Slayer’s Mappa Hunch P along with Forward P and Down H have more recovery, making him easier to punish on block and remove strike throw invin at start-up until mid-way point of the attack for Super Mappa Hunch. Though Arc Sys now decided that Pile Bunker needs to do more damage than it does now?! What? They also changed up how is back dash works with the start up being fast but slower when he finishes the dash. Slayer will get knocked down a peg or two and he’s easier to punish and to finish off. Goldlewis now regains his title of the stupid damage boogeyman after we knee capped white wild assault.

The thing that upsets me the most about the Pot changes is that they're doing this so late into the game's lifespan. Like, if it was this way from the start, or if it was part of their vision for a _new_ Guilty Gear game, I'd have no problem with the design philosophy. But the character I've been playing the last 3 years is more or less being removed from the game tomorrow and that makes me really sad.

Pot has been my main jam since the game launched, and while I haven't played a whole lot more recently, I was always at the point where I could do kara buster consistently but didn't even dare trying to learn the other karas even though I knew they were the next real step in growth as a player. Now I just need to relearn the inputs for the specials and HPB that they also changed up lol

i grinded the dozens of hours required to learn how to do all potemkin's kara cancels consistently, and honestly it feels like a relief for them to be gone now. strive tired my hands and wrists out faster than any other game. now i can hopefully play longer before the RSI takes hold.

While I lament the loss of Kara cancels, I think it's too early to say a lot of Pot's complexity is gone (it's too early because the patch isn't even out). The skill floor is higher, and it's likely the skill ceiling will be different (hopefully also higher). Many characters are entirely different (Nago, Ram), while others are mostly unchanged (Zato, Jack-O): this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Change is interesting, and Strive needed enormous changes to reinvigorate the player base.

I know it's always best to wait and see for these things, but I'm honestly not a fan of removing the 6K Kara cancel tech. Taking away advanced tech alone just to lower the skill ceiling won't make it easier for casual players to pick up the character, but instead it'd just lower the options for those who can master said technique. I'll admit I couldn't consistently pull off Kara backfist or Kara Garuda, but I'm gonna miss doing Kara Buster, Kara forward fist, or even Kara hammerfall. Still, at least Pot Buster has armor now, and I'm curious how much they increased its base range. Plus, the blue wild assault ought to give him more ways to maintain pressure and threaten the Pot Buster.

I just tried Strive yesterday after last playing it around 2 years ago. I've been playing SF6 since then, so I missed many of its key features that I think Strive should consider implementing: - ELO like system instead of "floors" - "Global" matchmaking instead of using rooms, what is the point of using quick match feature if it often puts me in half empty room where I won't find an opponent or being facing the same one over and over?? - Separate ELO for each character I think these would be a huge improvement for everyone playing online. SF6 raised the bar on multiplayer experience and every other FG needs to catch up if they want to stay relevant.

Also, rooms (more specifically playground rooms) are annoying because if one is full, usually the other only has a few. Which limits who you can play with. (Also would love them to add frame data in training mode, preferably like SF6, but Tekken style is fine as well)

so is the trade off is that it Pot loses kara but gets armor? I imagine this makes him more strong as a defensive character. Because now you can punish with Buster even absorbing one hit, without even using meter. I think its a buff but its definitely a massive change

don't think about patch as a "regular" patch. just think about it as an +r/ac/rev/etc style change, and it's not that big of a deal. I think it'll be fine. it's not like they haven't been making fighting games for the past... forever, lol.

I do think everyone is a bit overzealous about Pot being straight up ruined, it's more like they took the joke of Pot mains being "glue eaters", and decided to make him playable by an actual glue eater.

I like so much the general idea of this patch. They are increasing the number of interactions, but at the same time you can do a lot of damage using risky buttons TBH I'm the type of player who choses a character because their look or music, so I'm excited for re-learn some parts of their gameplan

As someone who always struggled to Kara Garudas I'm not fundamentally opposed to them being gone, though I'd rather they just added a frame or two more of leniency instead, maybe? But overall, as terrifying as armoured Buster sounds, I dunno, I think Pot's life is going to get a lot harder. They're giving him even more damage (it was fine) but we're paying for it with all of his weaknesses turbo-charged. It looks like the hammerfall break karas into Giganter may be gone too. Also they nerfed a lot of his light buttons, which already weren't great, and his air buttons, which were kind of crucial. Garuda is a projectile and got a bunch of nerfs too.... They're giving armour to Hammerfall Break though and that may as well have to carry the entire game plan because it's all that's left I dunno, there IS the possibility that it turns out everything in Neu Pot just slides into place and it's a joy but right now, it's looking like it'll be quite the struggle

My initial feelings on the pot changes were that he was face down in a metaphorical ditch, but I try to remain optimistic that he'll be fine. The main thing for me is that even if everything is still good he just doesn't have any sauce anymore, nothing flashy or cool. Like kBMF loops was some of the coolest stuff in this game. I hope they give him some new sauce :/

I'm torn on this one. I generally object to removing techniques from a character and I think it's really weird to do so here. But on a purely selfish level, while I could do all the kara stuff, I didn't enjoy it because was so hard on my hands. This change does move the character back to a style that I prefer to play without the karas and deemphasizing Garuda.

arcsys knows this is a big change, so i’ll be interested to see how pot and ram’s kits work in the end. maybe with armor + extended range, they hope RPS around pot buster at kara range will be simplified, since you can eat a poke now. but losing all the other kara cancels is WILD. they did mention that instant break on hammer fall will go much farther, which means an easier time getting in and a much more accessible mobility option. still, ballsy asf

"How much they changed damage?", "How much they changed recovery?", and all other questions like that.

From seeing my friend stream ggst before i even bought it to actually getting the game and logging over 150 hours in it ive wanted to and mained pot and now it just feels like all the hard work is kicked out the window along with my kneecaps. Pot seems like they took him from a hard to learn but rewarding character to just kind of basic and simple and i really hope its not as bad as it seems

i think they just want you to play around the characters traits more like the older games so pot will be somewhat closer to his xrd version where you're mostly a traditional grappler

I'm one of the people who didn't bother learning Pot because of the Kara stuff. I know it's gonna suck for people who invested a lot of time into learning it and love the options it brought, but it also significatnyl lowers the entrance barrier for newer players who're interested in the character

Potemkin is gutted and ruined. He no longer has any sort of skill expression or skill ceiling without 6K karra cancels, he's just the guy with the big funny (now armored) grab and some other specials that are there I guess. Terrible change that didn't need to be made whatsoever. Edit: I get if people were scared of his inputs and complexities and they wanted to make him easier, like most other grapplers in all honesty, but you took away the very essence of skill ceiling. Yes these inputs may be difficult for some players, but that's what makes it fun is learning how to do the inputs and then practicing them to get better at the game. Now all this time people have spent on the character mastering these techniques is out the window and instead he is now as basic as you get. Without the skill expression we once had, there is no way people are gonna either continue to play him or maybe even play at all. I myself love this game too much to quit, as this is the game that introduced me to the FGC scene and is one of my most played games of all time now, but if I still wanna main Potemkin anymore might be a question I have to ask myself. The 6K change needs to be undone as soon as possible in order to not just completely nuke the character's identity.

@@lordanzu8763 personally I don’t hate the idea of simple controls for more casual players, but I think part of the fun of fighting games is their complexities and learning them in order to grow. I have ~500 hours in Strive myself, and ~200 of those is in training mode in order to learn something new or that I found interesting. Totally understand tho for players that are a more casual player to have simple controls to help them, but I think they should’ve kept the karra cancels in for those who do like the complexities.

I'm in the likes-motion-inputs camp but seeing the notes, seeing the changes to be easier, I'm actually not complaining. I think qcs and dps, even down down is good, especially when people play pad more. My cutoff is not having any at all, and I still think GBVS does it best where it's just preference. I like motions and the lil benefit, but I'm glad someone else doesn't have to.

The may change a while back that got rid of negative edge on dolphins was a bit frustrating but incomparable to removing pot karas. I hope the buffs compensate and they find a way to reconcile for the depth kara megafists added. Personally I'd be pissed if I played him.

That Pot change is honestly depressing. I just started playing Strive earlier this year and while the kara was hard I had a lot of fun learning them on leverless. Lowkey wanna drop the game now, that' not the kind of design mentality I want to follow tbh. Down for accessibility and making things easier, not down for this level of it.

You can no longer special cancel the beginning of 6K, but it doesnt decelerate and retains momentum when cancelled after connecting. So does this mean any special cancels after it connects are still affected by that momentum, so its like a pseudo mid-combo kara?

I feel like these kind of changes need some kind of test. The scary thing about devs, even experienced ones like Team RED, is that there can be a disconnect between what the players may enjoy or think needs changes and what they personally want to change. Uprooting certain character's playstyles is absolutely going to alienate some players, especially since it's a massive red flag that ArcSys can and will just change things that have been working for several years based on what appears to be a subjective problem. The past few years have been nothing but adding ontop of what exists, but this patch is either going to be a renaissance for Strive, or a nail in the coffin. Im not looking forward to losing kara-buster, but we'll see if it ends up being for better or worse.
