When summer comes seems like you just about have to fish more at night time. The heat during the days just seems to turn them off so much it's hard to catch anything worth size or numbers. But occasionally it happens but seems like night time fishing is better during summertime.

Crickets flipped in under trees is my favorite to catch bluegill bait. Little bobber with about 2 feet of line to the hook. August is my worst month for catfish. The cicadas are singing. I think the fish eat them. And are not hungry. Poncho.. Covers legs and all. I have hunkered down with poncho many many times. We have fished for freezer cripples at night. Also. I throw catfish bait out to the edge of the light. Big flathead lurk out there attracted by the commotion.

Huge fan. Just getting serious about River cat fishing here in Murfreesboro, TN. I’m sure you k ow more tricks than I do but just wanted to make sure since it’s fresh on my mind. I found some 4-6” spotted shad this past Saturday using my cast net. Had them in a buckets and an aerator pumping and they died before I could get them home...15 minutes later. So I froze them and did research. Obviously don’t over fill the tank with shad and have an aerator in tank. But the part I never heard of was mixing non-iodized salt (pool salt) in the water prior to putting gizzard - spotted shad / skipjack herring in holding tank. Again, I’m sure you know more trucks than me...and truth be know ...I haven’t even tried this theory yet!

Get a two gallon bucket with a lid, drill holes in it and hang it off the side of your kayak. It's a bait tank while your fishing

Ive caught some channels that had black fungus looking stuff on them like that. Its pretty sure it's not normal or a coloration. I heard its from hog run off, but who knows. I saw a guy catch one with a lot on it, out of the IL river years ago.
